"I've been feeling it since Spring Training," Devers said. "But every time I was swinging, I was feeling it a little bit more and more. So for me, I think like two or three days [off] could be enough. I hope it doesn't keep bothering me after these two or three days but that's something I can't control. That's why I'm just trying to keep working to get stronger, to get my shoulder back in a good way.”
You are right. I will wait before I hit the panic button. But what to do about my torn up clothes?Perhaps you should rend your garments so he doesn't go on the DL.
Obviously it's not ideal for him to be out, but let's wait and see if he's back in the line up over the next couple of days before we hit the panic button this early in the season.
Since it was posted on the 11th, I assume that means he will play tonight to start his rehab assignment.Vaughn Grissom is flying to Syracuse tonight to join the WooSox for his rehab assignment. He’ll play tomorrow.
Campbell/Bernardino may go down. Criswell is also up on the taxi squad, and so is likely to get a start soon. Was there a corresponding move for the Dalbec call up? I assume someone is going on the IL but haven't seen anything.
There's no rule that states position player for position player exchanges when players are placed on the IL or called up. The only roster rule that matters is that no more than 13 pitchers can be rostered at a time. So moving a pitcher off the roster in exchange for adding a 14th position player is allowed.Doesn’t Dalbec have to be coming up for a position player going on the DL? Or was that rule changed?
You're probably thinking of the playoff rule.Doesn’t Dalbec have to be coming up for a position player going on the DL? Or was that rule changed?
Yeah, I think that’s it. So i’m not completely insane. You're probably thinking of the playoff rule.
Teams submit a 26-man roster prior to each round of the postseason. A club may request permission from the Commissioner to replace a player who is injured during a series, but that player is then ineligible for the rest of that round and the subsequent round. A pitcher may be replaced only by another pitcher, and a position player only by another position player.
I thought this was a rule too. If you want to recall a player that soon, someone has to go on the IL.Thanks- because Dalbec was optioned <10 days ago, though, he can only replace a player going on the DL, right? He can’t replace an optioned pitcher like Campbell.
Must... resist... urge to... post joke about... getting... whiplash... from watching those baseballs... rocket... out of the park.... Urrgggh!
Just put him on the IL already. JFC.Devers out for tomorrow as well

If I was Devers, I wouldn’t play unless I was 100%.Just put him on the IL already. JFC.
Saying left thumb contusion. Could have been so much worse. I had a few very dark minutes on my bike ride listening to the game.Any word on Valdez?
If Raffy's not ready until at least Monday we could be looking at a two man bench again tomorrow.Saying left thumb contusion. Could have been so much worse. I had a few very dark minutes on my bike ride listening to the game.
Yay, after today's clean inning Jansen's gotta' be ready to go back to back if needed.
Can he pitch with his right shoulder?
The story: overswung at an unexpected changeup in a batting cage late in spring training.Do we know if Raffy had an MRI? Or if there was a particular incident that caused the shoulder problem?
This is correct. Per MLB.com,Thanks- because Dalbec was optioned <10 days ago, though, he can only replace a player going on the DL, right? He can’t replace an optioned pitcher like Campbell.
Upon being optioned to the Minor Leagues, a position player must remain there for a minimum of 10 days before he is eligible to be recalled to the Major League roster. For pitchers, the minimum is 15 days. If a player is serving as the 27th man for a doubleheader or replacing a player who has been placed on the injured list, there is no minimum number of days for which the optioned player must remain in the Minors.
I heard an interview (edit for wrong reference) with Cora where they said he was expecting fastballs, but sometimes the pitching machine doesn’t grab the threads right or the threads aren’t raised the right way. When does Devers NOT overswing? This was bound to happen.
It was because his face slammed into the back of Raffy's head and his sunglasses smashed and cut him, requiring 8 stitches and a concussion check.I missed the game yesterday because of an incredibly boring wait at jury duty so I have an incredulous question.
Someone collided with the brick shithouse that is Tyler Fucking O'Neill and it was the brick shithouse that got hurt?
The fuck is even going on?
You were lucky, Jury duty was probably far more exciting than yesterday's game.I missed the game yesterday because of an incredibly boring wait at jury duty so I have an incredulous question.

Flashbacks to Johnny Damon and Damian Jackson, I take it.It was because his face slammed into the back of Raffy's head and his sunglasses smashed and cut him, requiring 8 stitches and a concussion check.
Mike Greenwell and anybody on the same field....Flashbacks to Johnny Damon and Damian Jackson, I take it.
They gotta communicate better.
There are very few Red Sox players I have absolutely loathed and he's on the list. Also, Mike Benjamin.Mike Greenwell and anybody on the same field....
If you have a strong stomach the link is a couple posts up. But yeah.I missed the game yesterday because of an incredibly boring wait at jury duty so I have an incredulous question.

Didn't Adrian Beltre in his one season here injure over half the other starters?Mike Greenwell and anybody on the same field....
He taught us all about "back ribs" and "front ribs."Didn't Adrian Beltre in his one season here injure over half the other starters?
IIRC, didn't he take out Ellsbury for a period of time?Didn't Adrian Beltre in his one season here injure over half the other starters?
Most of the season, actually. The collision was on April 11. Ellsbury returned for three games in May before going right back on the IL until August when he played 9 games and then was shut down again. 18 total games played that year. That was also a season in which Pedroia and Youkilis were lost for significant chunks of the season and Buchholz hurt himself running the bases, but I'm fairly certain Beltre had nothing to do with those injuries.IIRC, didn't he take out Ellsbury for a period of time?
Thanks for that. I actually just researched it myself and came up with the attached article. It took a little bit to get to the Beltre-Ellsbury collision, but from that point on the story really got interesting. It was worse than I remembered. Most of the season, actually.
