O-line
Harris (please be healthy)
Meyers
Burkhead
Honorable Mention: Folk’s back, Cam’s midrange throws.

For some reason I could not turn away from this train wreck of a game.

I want to be optimistic about Cam but his mechanics are so inconsistent (short arming throws, not stepping through, etc) and I think he should be able to trust the O-line a bit more at this point and let the WRs run their routes.

I don’t expect that to change against the Ravens. Baltimore is beatable, but they will dare Cam to beat them in the air and that’s still an uncertain path.

Talk me into believing in the still developing passing game, and in a defense held together by bailing wire and bubble gum.

Cam was certainly better than he has been most of the year, but he was going immediately to check downs on almost every play. The Jets are bad enough that you can beat them that way. Just about no other team in the league is that bad.

At some point he has to be able to see the whole field and hit open receivers downfield. Until that happens it's hard to be optimistic about this team winning against anything but the dregs of the league.

Maybe, but Newton has a higher yards/attempt than guys like Brady and Jackson. He has a higher yards/completion than Brady and he new "DOWNFIELD PASSING ATTACK!!". He has a higher yards/completion than Big Ben and Drew Brees. He's also 10th in the league in completion percentage--higher than guys like Brady, Goff, Tannehill, Mayfield, Rodgers.

So, thinking this out---our QB completes a higher percentage of this throws than Brady and Big Ben. For more average yards per attempt and per completion.

His issues are ALL about turnovers. And last night he didn't force it. He checked down *instead* of forcing throws.

23 targets to Meyers and Byrd, 11 to the backs and Gunner. Didn’t feel like a ton of check downs, a few of the non-WR targets were designed screens. If anything I think he holds on the ball looking downfield too much instead of taking what’s there

I'm hoping for a 2019 Steelers type of a season, only slightly better.

Pittsburgh started out 1-4 (mostly due to injuries), went on a big run to go 8-5, only to lose the last 3 games to finish 8-8. The week 17 loss to the Jets particularly hurt.

I'm encouraged by Cam getting better, Harris looking like a #1 back, Myers continuing to improve, and getting Gilly back soon.

What do they realistically need to do to sneak into #7? (or the Covid #8 if it happens)

If the jets are bad enough that you can beat them by picking up 8 yards every time you throw the ball without throwing downfield much why would you do anything else? Isn't that exactly what Brady and the pats offense has been praised for for years, you take what the defense gives you as long as it's working. I do like though that all game thread last night you were criticizing him for throwing short and now you're admitting that it was the right thing to do vs that team.

Btw, when he did throw the ball downfield he wasn't terrible either, see the perfect touch pass to Meyers on the first drive, the 3rd and 20 bullet to Meyers that got 19 and should have been a first, the long catch and run by Byrd on the last td drive, and the last pass to Meyers that set up the game winning field goal.

Your reading comprehension leaves something to be desired.

Cam wasn't all that great last night but whatever. Good on him for hitting guys wide open against probably the worst pass defense in the league on a team that doesn't even look like it's trying to win. He still makes poor decisions, locks in on guys, and isn't able to get in the end zone.

If that was Cam playing well, that's a loss against pretty much every other team in the league.

I’d say no worse than 6-2 from here on out, but it probably needs to be 7-1.
I agree 100%; assuming they lose to the Ravens, that will mean basically running the table from then on out, which includes beating the Cardinals, Dolphins and Rams on the road and the Bills at home.

I'm an optimistic/glass is half full person, but that's a tall order.

If them making or not making the playoffs comes down to the Denver loss, that will be infuriating.

I think 9-7 probably makes the playoffs, especially since getting there will mean they hold the tiebreaker over the raiders and probably dolphins.

Tanking comes from the top.
If it's coming from the top then why exactly would a coach that doesn't expect to be there next year have any incentive to participate? Same goes for players that are essentially helping the team draft better players to replace them next year.

They’re under contract. Nobody says the word “tank” but it is implicit in the machinery of an organization that is winless halfway through a season with the No. 1 draft pick theirs if they keep losing. The Jets can screw up on their own. Or maybe the Patriots just made a helluva comeback when they realized complete humiliation was only one quarter away.

But Gase gets paid his contract whether they fire him or not. If he thinks he's coaching for his next contract and now his current one then it makes no sense for him to make bad decisions to help a team that he won't be working for in a few months.

Maybe he’s not in the loop. This is the Jets we are talking about. Joe Douglas might be up in the press box, talking to the OC.

This should be a goat thread. Really hurt NE’s chances at a top five pick with this comeback.

Just wait until they lose by 20 to the Ravens making the win even more meaningless. I'm still a little annoyed.
