Sure it wasn't pretty but I'd take a win to start the new year. The game balls go to:
  • Uche for getting in the way of Bridgewater's finger
  • Early and late Mac for throwing some key passes
  • Defense for the takeaways and yet another return TD
It's game ball time again!

Dugger
Meyers
Barmore
Peppers

The D for being solid despite being asked to carry the weight. And the O for ok game managing.

Its a formula...

Mac

20-33, 203 yds, 2 td, 0 int

Not pretty, but he had his best drive of the year at the most important time and made some huge plays.

Mac, Duggar, Jones. Really ugly win over a couple of backups, but the playoffs essentially started today for the Pats so winning ugly is a-ok.

Agreed. He stood in the pocket more often than I an remember this year too. Sure some of the throws were frustratingly off but can't argue with 2 TD and 0 INT in getting the win.

Duggar, Barmore, Mac.

Dishonorable mention: I hope that the ST coach is on Zillow right now. Another terrible game in almost every phase.

Dugger
Barmore

And I'll add Henry. Had a few catches and the kick recovery

Dugger, all the DBs (remarkably low production from Hill and Waddle) Tyquan, the defensive coaches

Belichick. Give him a time out after he sees your onside kick formation and he is going to be money.

I think Henry has all of their onside recoveries this year.

Don’t want to ignore the fact that they played against a past his prime Bridgewater and Thompson, but the defense keeping them in this game today down 3 of their 4 best corners with the 4th (and arguably best) playing hurt absolutely deserves a game ball against a team with Hill and Waddle.

The jumps Dugger and Uche are taking this year are so inspiring to see. Also, fantastic to see the Barmore 2021 promised.

Game goat to the officials. At least 4 terrible calls against the Pats today if you include blatant holds that went uncalled.

For some reason, whenever I see the Pats set up to receive an obvious onside kick, I think of Christian Fauria. As with your sense about Henry this year, it seemed that Fauria recovered every onside kick when he was with the Pats. (It's probably just a TE thing, with a guy who A) has good hands and B) has the size to handle getting walloped, but in my head it's only Fauria whom I recall.)

And for game balls, my votes:
  • Dugger
  • Meyers
  • Thornton
  • Peppers
If they had lost this game, I'd be spitting mad about the blown fumble call in the first quarter and the dropped INT by DMac.

McCarver's Mushy Mouth
Front 7 - once again, a real, long-term strength
Thornton - came up with two terribly thrown passes for long gains, nearly a 2nd TD
Henry - big gains, game-securing hands play

Holy Christ though, the refs were ridiculous again. The ironic forward progress fumble, and innumerable holds on both edges, just awful.

I think people are desperate for Mac to be good if they're giving him a game ball.

Two of his biggest plays of the game were pass interferences, but they weren't Flacco balls. There was the throw in the endzone to a double covered receiver that was behind and above him that should have been a pick. Then his throw down the right sideline that was so underthrown that the receiver got absolutely trucked by the corner.

He started out 7 of 9, then went 2 of 9, then 11-15, closing it out with the TD to Meyers after the bobbled "could have been" TD to Thornton..

I thought Mac was pretty good today. Not great. He had probably half a dozen or so plays that really left you scratching your head. But most of the time, he was pretty good.

Mac was horrendous for a large portion of the game. Missing easy throws, taking bad sacks, all of the shit we’ve seen from him all season long. I’ll give him credit for putting it together for the TD drive when they needed it, and the one throw to Meyers (I think) was a beaut, but man they bar is low if we are giving him a game ball for one drive and one really nice throw.

Anyway:

Barmore - man I hope he can stay relatively healthy next year because he’s a difference maker and they have missed him this year
Henry - still feel like he’s under-utilized but a nice game from him
Dugger - three scores on D in a season is a great season, generally just a play maker on D
Peppers - seemed to be flying around, filling holes and hitting.

Peppers was a beast this game. Was it out of nowhere or have I just been not paying attention this season?

You don't think that Mac saw the hold and figured "free play" ?

You are describing plays that happen to EVERY QB in EVERY game.

From the posts by a lot of folks here you'd think every Brady incompletion for 20 years here was a drop or a throwaway and every interception bounced off a receivers hands.

Are we giving out games balls on style points now? Mac deserves one today, IMHO.

Today just confirms my wish for Mac to be the QB next year and beyond.

Get a decent #1 WR, and get a better OL coach, and this team will win those close games that got away this season.

Fire Achord, move Judge to ST, move Patricia somewhere, and hire BOB, and you could convince me this is like a 12 win team next year with the exact same roster

Someone in the other thread said Mac was fine, I’d agree with that description. The offense was completely useless for a large part of the game and they needed a TD from the defense to win, but he also delivered on a nice drive to basically ice the game in the 4th quarter. This is the game ball thread, do you get one for being fine? IMO, no, but YMMV of course.

In a loss, this thread would be three pages long by now,

1) D-line - playing, to my eye, a cover2 shell, the front was able to take away the run game.
2) TT- rebounded after a rough week.

Patricia should have the Ernie Adams role: intellectual, analytical, and strategic, but far from the sidelines where interpersonal issues and timely thinking are required.
