There was also uncalled OPI on the game-sealing INT. Not that it mattered, but it wasn't called. The receiver read what was happening and pushed Harmon before ball arrived. There's a clear pic of it on twitter, but I can't find it.

Speaking of penalties, how incredibly insane is this stat?

For his career -- including playoffs -- Revis had five defensive holding penalties, three pass interference penalties and four illegal contact calls prior to Saturday.

That's 12 penalties in the modern NFL in 8 years!

As for Revis' game last night: By my count, that TD catch was the only catch Smith had on Revis in man coverage. There may have been one other, as I distinctly remember at least one catch in zone. Regardless, after the TD catch, I don't believe Smith had a catch the entire rest of the night. I really didn't like that PI call, and I thought the hold was smart. It's usually uncalled, and Flacco was staring Smith down and would have hit him there without it. If you take out that DPI call, it was really just one holding call over the next 3+ quarters. It looked worse because of what happened after the holding call, but Flacco was going Smith's way without the hold. You can see it.

There was also a nice adjustment by someone (Chung I think) when Smith ran that same route later in the game.  He shaded to the perfect spot and the look was gone.

How about the coverage on the fullback way down field?  I couldn't tell who it was, but I was sort of pissed it wasn't a pick until I saw the number on the jersey was 90 something.  Can't remeber who it was, Collins maybe?

That was Collins. It was an insane throw by Flacco, and it should have been picked.

Yeah Collinsworth was saying after that play that Collins can do it all. I disagree his pass catching skills need work, that thing clanked off the back of his hand.

I think Collins makes that pick if not for uncalled OPI on that play as well.  There was a lot of hand grabbing and arm bars that went uncalled in this game such that the call on Revis should not have been made.  But Revis was a little more egregious, IMO.  LaFell had to make an outstanding catch on a perfectly placed ball because one arm was held down when he adjusted for the catch - both he and Brady commented on it post-game.

Collins definitely has a weakness, and it's in the running game. He's small and gets pushed around. That size and quickness, however, makes him excel in all other areas. He's a perfect complementary LB in the modern NFL.

He isn't supposed to be taking on blockers; the big guys are supposed to be occupying them so Collins can dart in the gap and make the play. He's a very good tackler.

I know you know this, just totally disappointed with the line last night. Hopefully it was more due to the BAL oline having a great day and not a bad sign going forward.

This is false. He makes up for his lack of size with a very good ability to diagnose run and fill the hole quickly and ferociously. I have no idea what makes you think he's poor in the run game. With more expereience, he'll be am excellent run stuffer.

Game Balls:

- Brady.  'Nuff said.
- Edelman for his 158.3 QB rating.
- Amendola for earning his pay this year.
- Gronk for being Gronk.
- LaFell
- Collins
- Defensive secondary aside from one Revis brain cramp on the defensive holding penalty.
- Solder/Vollmer for allowing Brady to hoist it 51 times.
- Vereen for being ineligible.
- Hoo-man for catching those 3 important passes.
- Special teams.  Jones was quiet, and Edelman had 3 nice punt returns.  OK, one heart attack on the fumble early on, but that turned out to be harmless, so I'll let it go.
- Flacco for throwing into double coverage at the end.

Honorable mention:

- Ravens players.  I like physical teams and physical games.  As much as I hate the Ravens, the guys on the field did earn my respect  (go ahead and shoot me).

Goats:

- Interior O-line
- Blount for lacking his usual pushback ability.
- D-line getting abused all day by the Ravens running game.
- Refs for missing that blatant DPI on Gronk.
- My TV.  Time for a new one.

Honorable Mention:

- Harbaugh for making it all about him at the end.

You're probably right overall, but he had a very poor game last night at it to my eye against a physical O Line. Caveats and all, but PFF also crushed his run D last night, and had him the worst defensive player in the run game by a significant amount. Not that anyone really played well in that department, and Siliga probably was worse, given the snap counts. Siliga's performance was unexpected; he played like Vellano.

Yeah, Siliga seemed like a non-presence out there.

Is Chandler jones getting shit today? He didn't get home, but was close all game and finished with 10 pressures - a career high. Game ball to him.

I'm surprised by jones stats after the game. I've been very critical of him during the game and since. The stats and my eyes watching that game don't seem to match. I'd have to watch some of those plays again I guess, but he felt invisible for most of the game.

If you can, check the rewind and look at Collins's hand position. As Belichick says, there is a reason some of these guys play defense.

Collins is a big dude - 6'3", 250 at the Combine. He played DE in college. He's not a sub-240 guy like Bobby Wagner or Casillas. He's just not a huge monster like Hightower. He does run really well, especially for someone that big.

I've seen him look pretty good against the run. I think last night he was just lost. It looked like one of those games where Brady just makes Polamalu look stupid. It seemed like he was always chasing the wrong action or the wrong hole. I think Kubiak used his aggressiveness against him.

Who charted him with 10 pressures? I didn't see anything close to that. He got close a couple times and probably had a better game than his box score line indicated, but I thought it was a disappointing showing against a UDFA LT. The lack of interior pressure definitely hurts, because Flacco had a clean pocket to step up into even when Chandler was able to get the edge.

PFF. I didn't count myself, but Hurst had his hands full.

You're not saying you charted the game and only counted 2-3 pressures are you?

They had Brady as the least pressured QB yesterday at 28% of his throws compared to Flacco at 49% pressure.  Something seems off with those numbers to me.

Until PFF starts explaining how they come up with stats such as this, they cannot be considered reliable.

I did not. But I did re-watch every pass snap this morning. I don't think there were 10 plays all game where Flacco was pressured by anybody, period. If you stretch the definition to "beat his man, almost got to the QB, but had no actual effect on the play," you might be able to get to 10.

You also have to look at time to throw. Flacco had 2.6 seconds or more on 73.3% of his throws yesterday. In the regular season, no one had higher than 61.2% for the year. Meanwhile, Brady got off 67.9% of his passes in 2.5 seconds or less. So it's possible Flacco was pressured more, but only because he had so much longer to throw on average (3.19 seconds vs 2.43 for Brady) so he was holding the ball and going through his progressions and finally there was a little pressure at the end.

I also don't know how PFF considers plays where the Ravens broke through the line initially and Brady evaded him and then ended up with some time in a clean pocket, but only because he was able to handle some initial pressure. Does that count or not? There were a few of those.

Yeah, I'm with you on this. Flacco often held the ball for a long time, so maybe he got credit for some very late pressures. But no way did he have a good game. The ancient James Harrisson had a much better game against Hurst just last week, so I was very much looking forward to Jones abusing him.

The other reason why the pressure stats don't match up is that Brady was hit 9 times compared to 4 hits on Flacco.

If Chandler Jones had 10 pressures the Patriots would have won by 2 scores.
