I'm aware it was perfectly legal I just think some people will bitch and moan and there will be a rule about eligible players not being able to play ineligible positions or something like that.
I'm not saying I agree with it I just think there will be something.

That throw was just beautiful. Brady played well, not perfect but very well. Surprised the Ravens just sat in soft zones all day

I want them to win the Super Bowl even more now. If it happens, this will be a game I'll come back to often in the future. It really can't be forgotten.

Was a bit like the A-11 offense.

Wouldn't be surprised if something was changed.
The ref pointed it out and announced it. What more notice does the defense need?

EDIT: This was nothing like A11 which took advantage of a quirk in punt formations. This was a normal 7 man line except 34 was declared ineligible and was properly covered by an eligible receiver.

So glad I watched the game with my kids and ignored the game thread. For better or worse, my mentality throughout was...down by 2 scores
= no worries. Constantly told my 8 year old son to keep the faith. Major payoff. Bend don't break. See you in AZ.

I think the fourth down throw in SD years ago was the best throw of TB's career. This touch throw to LaFell was definitely a top 3 though.

Kline held his own. Helped out by the quick throws but credit is due where it's due.
Pretty sure Kline was playing with a bad wing too. He came off the field for a couple plays and each time he was dragging one arm and seemed to use one arm to block for the most part. Pretty sure they gave up on the run game because the interior ol was decimated

I think we run a similar bootleg in an away game on the season we won the first Sb, which I guess played a role in getting Charlie Weiss the ND job. I think it was Troy Brown that threw it.

Yeah it was discussed in BBs press conference exactly the same play that was Brown to Patten.

Edit:Oops i guess I had it backwards.

I put the list as follows:

1. Brady....beside the interception, he was consistent and evaded pressure quite a bit.  I saw a lot of side-stepping rushers, just enough to either buy time for a completion, throw the ball away and avoid a sack, or even rushing it in for the touchdown.  He remained composed the entire game, and really showed his veteran leadership.
2. Amendola....a long time waiting, but quite the breakout game at the right time.
3. Josh McDaniels....I thought at halftime that they should revert to the Bledsoe 1994 75-pass game and abandon the run.  I had no idea they would really do it, but I give him credit for adjusting quite nicely to what was not working and utilizing what did work.  The Edelman pass play was just an example, but they were consistently good in the second half.
4. Fans at the game....I know some of you were there, and one of my best friends was in the second row to the top.  He said the crowd was electric and it appeared louder than I can recall, which must have had an effect.  At the least, I tip my cap for those that stuck it out in 10-15 degree weather and stayed positive throughout.  If the team fed off of the crowd, then they couldn't have quit.

Aside:  Similar to SSF and H78.....My "Jets fan" girlfriend bought me an official grey Belichick hoodie of which I wore for karma.  After we were down 28-14 (and questioning whether or not she had given me the equivalent of tainted kryptonite), NBC showed clips of the Pats past Super Bowls.  I noticed that after the last one they won, BB was wearing a grey one with the sleeves rolled inward (not cut; not normally rolled up).  So I figured that was the missing piece....so I rolled it inward, and the Pats mounted the comeback and tied it at 28-28.  After the Ravens' FG to be 31-28, I rolled further and the rest was history.  So, perhaps #5 on the list is a tie between H78's laptop cord/battery, SSF's podcast deletions, and my grey BB hoodie with the sleeves rolled in.

The key to me on that play is whether Baltimore was informed of the eligibility of Hooman and Vereen. Because if they weren't, there's no way for them to know that, and the formation looked standard otherwise, and the refs always announce weird eligibility plays.

So if they weren't informed, I'd be upset too if I was them.

Here's more on this type of formation, which gets into the whole uncovered / covered issue as well.

Brady.

The team called no running plays outside of a Brady dive and kneel downs in second half.

I also heard the game thread was shitting on him. Man, I hope not. All those dumping on Brady should get a vacation from next week's thread.

But I'm not sure this matters because of the number Hooman wears.

They were informed but since no one ever does that they didn't react as well as they should have and they covered players they didn't need to while eligible receivers were open.
Now I agree that is tough shit for them and in the future teams will be prepared for that but I just think they will be a rule change to prevent teams from doing this.

That's not on NE then for being tricky. It's on the refs for not doing their jobs.

It is referring to exactly the discussion we are having.
On a few plays the Pats announced typically eligible receivers(Hooman and Vereen) as ineligible
The Ravens didn't defend properly and Harbaugh was not happy, he refused to comment after the game.

Two plays that are underrated:

1. Chung on the end zone throw to Daniels. That made it a FG attempt rather than a TD.

2. Rogan Ryan for pushing Smith down after McC batted the ball out of the end zone. There as a small but gut-wrecking chance that he catches it to run it into the end zone.

And Kline, Harmon, Ryan, all stepped up.
I mean, Rogan Ryan is a great typo from some with your screen name. It's all love.

I really hated this. Biggest 4th down of the year. Need  huge crowd noise. Basically  playing sweet caroline. Should be like a dropkick murphy scenario or some acdc or SOMETHING. The outfield? An 80s sing along tune? Get the crowd into it and make it hard for them to hear the snap count. I know its Gilette and not centurylink but still.

Most of that bad Brady talk was near the end of the 2nd quarter after he threw the pick and the Ravens drove the field to go up 21-14.

Except that Hooman and Vereen are wearing eligible numbers, and not OLs with ineligle numers lining up as eligible. In such situations, I believe it is on the D to look at the formation (who's uncovered and who isn't).among the personnel wearing eligible numbers.

Wait... Did a reporter accuse (or insinuate) that the Patriots were UNETHICAL for running a play that was within the rules of a fucking football game.

I don't feel sorry for a team that can't figure out which of the 6 seemingly eligible receivers is not eligible after he is announced as ineligible. I understand its a mind fuck twist, but the guy who is raising his hand and talking to the ref and matching the number of the announced player is the guy.

Now I fully expect him to step back behind Brady next week, then catch a lateral and throw a touchdown pass. We're not done.

LaFell's catch was fantastic. Such patience. He just waited so he wouldn't telegraph the timing of the arrival.

The pick was fucking horrendous, but all those "he's not elite anymore", "Tom Brady hasn't come through in a playoff game in a long time", "he isn't clutch" bullshit was the definition of an overreaction. Dude made a dumbass mistake, criticize that, sure, but settle down on the negative hyperbole, especially when there is a whole half of football to play. That's what was infuriating, taking one pass and turning it into an indictment of his whole career.

Sure. But the game is 60 minutes.

I don't know, I haven't read it yet, but there's a difference between "WTF was he thinking?" and how those threads sometimes go "Not elite" and shit. It's stupid and makes the poster look dumb.

EDIT: I'm not calling those posters dumb, but it makes them look dumb.

Right, I am not even sure this has to be announced because it is NOT a tackle eligible play due to the Hooman's number. Don't know for sure and can't find anything other than the Clemson play linked above.

I mean... "Unethical"?

Talk to me about heaving a long pass hoping to take advantage of pass-happy interference rules, and then making it a part of your standard playbook.

Oh i didn't see that bit, I guess what i saw was just the no comment about the ethics of using such a dastardly trick.

Edit::The ethics comment was from a reporter, no one from the Ravens to my knowledge said that.

Not unethical just a gimmick according to Fizzle

@RyanHannable: Terrell Suggs on if he's seen a team use four offensive linemen before? "Yeah, it's a football game. You see one gimmick you see them all."

Most of it was just understandable frustration. One knucklehead who was talking aftet the game about how we have to give the Ravens credit of course buried Brady at that point and there was some overreacting about whether Brady was still elite but it wasn't that bad.

We should probably not give up after eight minutes next game though

IRT Brady: the td to Gronk, where he hard-counted the D to reveal their blitz, waved at Gronk to adjust his route, and then hit him underneath for the td. Vintage Brady, just calculated and professional.

van everyman - I believe Patton did that exactly 30 years to the day after walter Payton became the first, and until that point the only, player to do that. not sure though.
