Kick and punt returns seem to have lost all their excitement, at least with the group I was watching the game with last night. You could hear a pin drop on Lewis' TD return as we all waited for what seems like the inevitable block in the back flag.
I do wonder if anyone tracks net return yardage, adjusted for penalties. It seems like there are so many penalties wherein you end up with the ball even further back than where it was caught, it makes me wonder if it wouldn't be better to send 10 guys at the punt every time with directions to the returner to fair catch everything. And that goes for any team, not necessarily Pats-centric.

There is no strategy of this ilk that is going to be effective, because teams will adjust strategy in response. If you never return punts, teams will boom kicks without regard to hang time.

Good point, but would the ability to boom be offset by the added rush?
Good questions. Paging @IdiotKicker

The problems with the penalties, namely block in the back, I put almost universally on the players. 95% of them are so blatantly obvious. Now when you have the Young Abe Vigoda and crew out there who can't tell a fumble from a fwd pass, maybe you think you can get away with it.

The end of that someone tells JE they're going to give him a gift card (to do an interview?) and he says, a gift card for what? The guy says, Morton's.

JE: "Great. I'm vegan."

That was awesome. Edelman kills me, that exchange he had with the ref about pushing off was priceless.
Absolutely awesome. I rewatched that scene three times.

The field-level view where Lewis takes it to the house is great, too. The linebacker (52) is in the view, and then Lewis completely burns him.

Love that's Edelman has his argument DIRECTLY FROM THE RULE BOOK ready to go. And, yes, "I'm vegan" is the best possible button on the scene. Fade out.

JE at the end of his discussion with the official about the push off "I get so defensive, I'm sorry...my therapist yells at me for that"

Tomlin will be all over this in his pre-game discussions with the officiating crew and will likely get an OPI call go against JE.

Is Edelman actually vegan, or was he just messing? Is that why he hasn't had a new BurgerTyme episode in forever?

At 3:18 of the video, after the White touchdown catch, I believe Edelman yells "GREASY LIGHTNING SPEED" in a Scottish accent, for no apparent reason.

I thought it was "90 speed" in a possible Madden reference.

The video game Madden.

It was actually a tortured Mandela Effect reference. I loved Necessary Roughness. Highly underrated movie.
