Trash-talked before the game? Check.
Unnecessary social media distraction? Check.
Brady tearing apart Steelers zone D? Check.
BB & Patricia devising up a great game plan? Check.

Going to the Super Bowl for the record NINTH time? CHECK!

It's time for the AFCCG Game Balls:
  • Brady: why do people always doubt TB as soon as he has a bit of a clunker?
  • Hogan: huge plays all game
  • Branch: my unsung defensive MVP of the season
  • Butler: keeping Brown from taking over the game
  • Scar: got the OL to step up
Oh and everyone on the game thread!

Somewhere
Branch. Aside from when Williams started getting touches, the Steelers running game did nothing.

Brady. Obvious.

Butler. Neutralized Brown and the Steelers had no answer.

Blount. For that insane carry plus some big conversions.

Hey, lookie there. Killer B's.

Pretty much everyone.

Loved the goal line stops and Blount carrying 18 Steelers for 7 yards.

Even the zebras had a good day.

I did not see this thread in the mobile timeline. I was nervous someone else is going to start it, so I was going to start a thread telling people to f*** off until you started the thread up. Looks like I didn't need to. It also looks like I'm drunk

We all remember what happened the last time kickoff got delayed by the NFCCG...

And by that I mean the absolute mauling of the opponent.

Besides the usual suspects:

-Van Noy with a nice forced fumble.

-J Jones beasted on special teams.

-SG made all the kicks

Harmon for not quitting on the almost Steelers TD and meeting James at the line.

Truth. I thought that not getting in just screwed them for time.

All the good ones are taken. So I go with "Jordan". Whoever he or she is, when they call your name as an audible before going out and putting up a big 50-yard play to set the tone, he/she gets a game ball.

Edit: Honorable mention to Bill for taking the ball after they won the coin toss. Gutsy.

Plenty to go around but I thought the OL was great. Didn't get much yardage on the ground but Brady's pocket was consistently good, especially the edges -- the tackles did a great job keeping the edge rushers from making the turn and allowing Brady to step up.

Cornerbacks also all played well. Very little separation all night when they were playing man.

I assume that was Michael. I think I hear him yelling 23 before he started with Jordan.

Pretty much everyone gets a ball from me. Ghost missed a PAT and had another that was shaky, but that's about the biggest nit I can pick.

I thought our coaching staff embarrassed their counterparts. We had a ton of great plays on offense that really exploited their young secondary, most obviously the flea flicker but many others clearly intended to flood particular areas of the zone defense and force their guys to make quick decisions in new spots. A lot of wide open receivers resulted. On defense, we took away AB, they adjusted well in the second quarter, but once we readjusted back at halftime they really didn't have much.

I'll add one for Patricia. The D really plays as a cohesive unit.

And Shank and Mazz can choke on their tomato can bullshit.

A game ball to those other NFL owners for not filling the heads of McDaniels and Patricia with those pesky 'getting ready to coach my own team' thoughts.

I'm obviously happy they are staying but it's crazy that OC/DC of the Pats is a better gig than like a third of the HC jobs out there.

Josh and Matty P coming back next year. LOL NFL. This is like the 03-04 Pats. Let's win 3 outta 4 again. Then Josh and Matty P can leave and TB12 and BB can retire

That is honestly my wish. Win it this year, win it next year. Retire at the top like Ortiz.

I streamed the game from Germany, missed this play, and based on the gamethread posts was trying hard to imagine Brady doing something literally Jordanesque. Thanks for clarifying

It was quite the scene. The Pats looked like they were ready to snap it. Then Brady yells "Jordan, Jordan", while pointing at the defense, and the backs and receivers move around all over the place, and IIRC, the end result is an empty backfield. Ball is snapped, and Brady hits a wide open Hogan downfield.

As is my style, I try to avoid the obvious ones, but holy shit huge balls on the OL today, especially Andrews in a brilliant bounceback effort. Aside from the second series, they absolutely shut down: Shazier, Dupree, Harrison, Tuitt. Barely heard their names called all night, plus Brady had a good amount of time to throw most of the night. Doubly fantastic, and thank you Scar. The secondary was great too, often making Ben throw to receivers on checkdowns, his third looks. Major props to Rowe and Butler tonight. Honorable mention for Nink who won't show up as much in the boxscore as he played tonight, just outstanding pursuit throughout the course of the entire game.

A fantastic team effort tonight, really. Got to love that, when everything is starting to heat up, just at the right time.

Patricia: for taking away A Brown, who is the #1 weapon on the team. I don't know the exact coverages, but it seemed like a zone approach. I'm guessing the smarter people here will break it down. You cant tell based on live tv coverage. Yes, he got 77 yards, but I'm not sure more than 20 of them meant anything, if that makes sense.

Edit: I've been drinking, but it seems like the Pats make a conscious effort to eliminate the "big play". That means Brown, not Bell (or DeAngelo, as it turned out).

O Line: rocky start, didn't establish a run push, but also kept the passing lanes open. And didn't let them rush the middle, and they clearly had a boner for that early on.

Props to the defense on 1st and goal for stuffing Pittsburgh in back to back run plays. It could have been a 17-14 game if that defensive stop doesn't happen.
