What exactly does GS have to do to clear space for KD? Does it have to be done before he signs?
Renouncing Barnes and Ezeli and trading Bogut into someone's cap space gets them the space they need. If they want to keep Ezeli (which I suspect they do) it gets a little trickier.

They might ultimately have to ask KD to decide between taking a slight one-year haircut (and then re-upping next offseason at the max) and having to move Ezeli ($5M cap hold) or Livingston ($5.8M).

I mean, if he goes to GS, which remains a big if...

My hope that it can't be GSW is that he can't win the narrative. If they win, he couldn't win it without Curry, Klay and Green. If they lose, it's his fault.

Has to be OKC on a one year and then either the $ and stay with them or sign with Celtics next offseason and become a hero if you win.

Really? This has made for a fun weekend for me. I think its awesome theater and one of the reasons I think the NBA, at present, is the best sports league going. One guy's decision can literally change the face of the entire Association.
Getting Horford has softened any blow I might have felt about Durant. Call me the "just happy to be here" guy.

Basically renounce all FA cap holds, including Barnes; trade Iguodala for a non-guaranteed deal they can decline; and do the same or stretch provision Bogut. They'd have Steph, Klay, Draymond, KD, Livingston and they can probably keep Ezeli. Then they'd have to build from there.

Wouldn't that weaken GS even though they'd have KD? Iggy is pretty important to their team and they fell apart in the Finals when Bogut left with injury.

Schilling with a thoughtful and passionate recruiting pitch to KD. Here's some of it.

In the winter of 2003 I was ‘sort of’ in that same boat. I had options. The first? I could go to NY, and become a Yankee, and possibly win the 28th? 29th? World Championship in their storied history.

Or?

I could go to Boston and do something no one had seen in their lifetimes, help break an 86 year old curse.

Now there’s no Celtic curse, far from it. Some of your sports greatest players have donned the Irish Green and Clover leaf of the Celts.

Bill Russell? Bird? Havlicek? Bob Cousy? Pretty sure you know them as well or better than I ever could.

Why does that matter? For this reason. Tradition. People here in NE aren’t transplants, they aren’t bandwagon folks. You are born, and raised here, and the Celtic, Sox, Bruins and Pats are not ‘your teams’ they are part of your life. I had NO IDEA it was what it was until I came here.I know passion, I lived for the game, but I never took the ball in front of people who loved their players and their teams more than these folks.

As I learned in the winter of ’03, when I was informed families were actually PRAYING for me to come here over their thanksgiving table, this place is a different world.

And that’s not bad different.

They do not have to move Iguodala. Its either him or Bogut. There is no way they brought him to the meeting on Friday without knowing he would be part of a squad with KD on it. Furthermore, Durant and Iguodala are close - them playing together (and not against one another) is one of the Warriors selling points.

I will be surprised if Iguodala does not retire with Golden State. Aside from Curry, he is probably the single most important guy to that team and locker-room.

Just going off of that. Could certainly be wrong, but I'm not seeing where.

I don't know why, but NBA fans are just better at the internet than other sports fans.
