I swear I saw this discussed somewhere at the time, not sure if it was here (I was only lurking back in '09). And people cringed hard then.
That seems to be why Bill distanced himself from Carolla's podcast and inviting him on his podcast, besides the whole red-pilling of Carolla from a generally conservative guy to right-wing grifter adjacent over the years. Simmons tended to let all guard down and treated it like they were back in the Jimmy Kimmel writer's room with "no bad ideas".
But yeah, that is the type of statement that would make sense coming out of an appearance by "guest Jeffrey Epstein". What makes it more icky is that I know his daughter is in college so she was what, 4 or 5 or somewhere around that age at the time? Yikes

Bill talks about Hayden Panetierre and Natalie Portman as child actors. He says that they both turned out to be really attractive and asks if it makes you a pedophile because you're secretly attracted to the 8-year-old girls knowing that they turn out to be really attractive.
This is not an exaggeration, it is pretty much word for word what he says
I was just thinking how Bill has evolved while listening to his last podcast.
They were talking about how bad the WR draft class is, and how there's one guy who seems really good, but it's hard to know how good he is since the rest of the class is bad.
Bill said something like "It's like being in a bar and you see a guy and think 'he looks pretty handsome,' and then you realize it might only be in comparison to everyone else." There's no way even 5 years ago he doesn't just talk about "chicks at last call" or something like that. Which I think shows some evolution on his part, even though I'm not sure it was entirely necessary to censor himself in this instance.

We should go back to the first decade of the 2000s here and pull posts that look awful now in retrospect. What fun it would be! Everyone involved would love it!!
Comedy has definitely changed in the however many years since then. It's still pretty crazy that someone as popular as Bill, who wasn't saying this anonymously, felt comfortable saying that. I mean, even the Shane Gillis thing that got him fired from SNL, Gillis didn't have nearly the following Bill had.
Regardless, it was an awkward attempt at a bit that didn't land. I don't think anyone thinks Bill is a pedophile (or at least I would hope not)
I suspect he felt comfortable saying it because no one was going to accuse him of being a pedophile. It was just a shitty joke. Whereas today I guarantee there'd be an online mob assembling to do just that.
Anyway, I just think when it comes to surfacing 15+ year old stuff on SoSH it's glass houses and all that. This was the place that had a long thread to make fun of 100 people burning to death after all. But "comedy" has changed.

That's nothing compared to his "Grading the Wimbledon babes" columns where he would say that they're really men or are cute enough to "take advantage of" (ie: rape) for a one-nighter, or early NBA Draft diaries where he said that minority players with spotty English didn't know who their fathers were.
