I loved the fact that MM and Cross were interviewed together because it means they are still friends. All too often these relationships drift into acrimony so it was nice to see them there for each other.
The Yacht Rock name was a silly joke for some sketches, and it worked too well. It's just hard to think of a name that would over ride that in public consciousness, but part of why it sticks is not just because the sketches were hilarious, but when you listened to the music again, it really was artfully made, sublimely smooth and enjoyable pop music.
Am I the only one who felt like the Fagen phone call was staged?
The director talked about it on the Big Picture pod with Fennessey. It's apparently real, took a long time to set up, and the director accidentally hung up on him the first try. Both him and Fennessey (a producer on the doc) were positively giddy about the call, so that lends credence to it being real (plus, Fagan isn't exactly known as the kind of person that would play along with...anything).
That interview on The Big Picture is precisely why I think it was staged.
This is a great point. Throw in the fact that Steely Dan's manager is Irving Azoff, who never does a deal for any reason other than it being lucrative for his clients and is the most protective and litigious name in the business.

IDK--if you look around the league a lot of people are saying those things about LeBron. A lot of the stats with him are grisly, especially some of the defensive numbers and people who closely watch the league have noticed it. Bill kicks extra hard when the Lakers are faltering (as he should, they are an evil organization) but I don't think his recent comments have been out of line with what a lot of people who cover the league have been saying.
I skip most of Bill's NBA segments this time of year. I just can't devote much time in my life to thinking about the NBA in December/Janarury/February. It's all soooo meaningless.
I'm trying to imagine Michael McDonald singing "Ill Wait" and I can't do it. That's a good story, though.

Based on some of the isolated Van Halen vocals that are on YouTube I'm guessing it was only McDonald singing the melodies.
The problem with the NBA right now is that it's more fun to talk about than actually watch. And it is a big problem.
Yeah, I know. I apologize - it's in poor taste.
The problem is his recollection of some stiff is kind of fuzzy. The NBA went back to airing the Finals live in the 1982 Finals between the Lakers and the Sixers. The NBA pushed the start of the season later, which in turn pushed the start of the Finals after the end of the May sweeps. I get how important the 1984 Finals is to him, but the league had been running all the Finals games live two years before that first meeting between Bird and Magic.
He tweeted out thanks to the firefighters and other people in the thick of it all, that's it. Guess he's just consumed with it. I have no idea where he lives but Brentwood is now under some threat.
One of his homes is on Carbon beach in Malibu, which was largely wiped out.
Pretty sure he's in Hancock Park but as mentioned does have property in Malibu
If I had suddenly come into a quarter billion then I too would have property in Malibu.
