If the cost is low....
I know you posted this yesterday, which was prior to a couple more chapters to the passion play, but I’ve seen this popping up online. I don’t see him signing for a low contract. Seeing that Julio Jones just broke the glass ceiling, AB’s pride will keep him home to peddle a bike in his pool vs taking a massive haircut to play.

I mean AB and JG on the outside with JE11 in the slot looks really good. Then (of course) add Gronk in November. TB12 would set season records in 6 games.

I still would think the locker concerns too high with AB, but we can fantasize

I just don't see how AB would be willing to accept 4 million or whatever the Pats can offer, even if its guaranteed. I don't see how he can save face and accept that after demanding the release on much bigger money.

Bingo.

It's about money with this guy. A big part of forcing his way out of Pittsburgh was to get more money. His apology yesterday was an effort to hang on to his guaranteed Oakland money, when presented with a scenario where he kept 30 million dollars simply by not being a jackass, he went right off the deep end and asked to be released. Now the wide receiver bar has been reset even higher. He does not seem like the kind of guy who performs on a "prove it" contract that starts somewhere far, far below what the top echelon of receivers are making. Julio is getting 22 million a year and he signs somewhere for 5 million with the "chance" to earn more? Don't see it happening.

Garofolo: Raiders try to replace AB with Keenan Doss, but he accepts $ 495,000 to stay on Jags practice squad.
Lol good for him. I’m enjoying Gruden losing control more than anything else in this saga.

I wonder if Miami takes a run at him. They have plenty of cap space so could give him something like a $10mm signing bonus and then something like $1mm per game played - give him a chance to build value and either flip him during the year, or if he works out then can at least to get a decent comp pick after he walks at the end of the year. It's not like he's going to tank their season, and he'd be a legit target to see what they have in Rosen.

That's the problem. Miami doesn't want to bring in someone that might perform well. They'd only bring him in if they had a discussion with him and told him to keep creating distractions.

He also won’t accept being anywhere where he isn’t unambiguously the top receiver. Remember part of his tantrum was the attention Juju got. He had far more targets than anyone else and was still sorority girl jealous that Juju got as many balls thrown to him as he did, even though it was a much smaller number than his own.

At this point mental illness almost has to be a part of the discussion, if one of the top agents in the business can’t get him within light years of rational there almost has to be something.

He’s unlikely to get an offer anywhere near where he thinks he deserves, if he’s not intentionally avoiding playing, the crash could be both entertaining and sad when it finally happens.

Even if he performs at an All-Pro level, does that really win them more than a game? That roster is pretty thin... And if he does turn out to be a good citizen, that's a really nice building block for the next year or two when expectations will be much higher.

As to the thread topic, my biggest fear is that he'd be a corrupting influence on Gordon (not because I've heard anything about AB with substance abuse, but a chaotic force can't be healthy to be around). If Flash wasn't here I'd love the Pats to give him a shot.

I'd be 100% against the Patriots signing him, wondering what the fuck they are doing. Then, by week 5 when he has kept his mouth shut and is slicing opposing defenses to ribbons, I'll enjoy how pissed off every other fan base is that the Patriots did it again.

I had voted hell no. But....I'm walking that back. Provided its on a 1 year cheap "fix your rep" deal with the Pats free to cut him the second he screws up, maybe I am open to it. This locker room, with Belichick and Brady and the rest of the vets, is solid enough that a bad week out of AB, after which he would be summarily cut, would NOT ruin it.

That being said, I dont think he signs that deal. I think someone will be dumb enough to give him $5+ mill on a one year deal, while I am thinking more like $630,000 with some performance bonuses that could get it to maybe $2...

We all know that's fake, right?
That’s the old photo where half of NE was convinced Larry Fitzgerald was at Logan, right?

My lol was based on that assumption.

I remember the days when we didn’t have to ask if people got the joke.

I don't understand it. Wouldn't the guarantees for this season be triggered simply by playing football Monday? He's not going to get anywhere close to $30M in guarantees now, no one will take that risk.

Maybe BB/Kraft can sell him on a ring over $$ and setting himself up for a Julio/Tyreek type deal via free agency next season?

Throwing away $30 million with guarantees strikes me as an awfully strange way of proving he only cares about money.

So... drugs or CTE? Or both?

As for a landing spot, I will go with Houston, especially if they get blown out by the Saints.

He cares about more than money. He also placed high value on the fame and hero worship that comes with it; but he cares about the fucking money. He stated he was done as soon as his guarantees disappeared.

I didn’t mean to suggest he would play for little or no money. Just that whatever process he’s using to make decisions involves more than that.

IANTKOD, but he seems manic as fuck.

I'm thinking Dallas. Jerry Jones is nuts enough to think its a good idea, and they have cap room. AB seems to want a QB and prescott may be good enough for him.

Which is honestly smart. Playing on a fully non-guaranteed deal is incredibly stupid.
Now, losing the guarantees is also stupid, but once they're gone it's in his best interest not to play on that deal, way too much downside in the NFL, it's why every player is constantly fighting to get more guaranteed money whenever they can.

Brown is complicated, he wants to be famous, he wants to be the entire focus of attention, and he feels like everyone underestimated him, and that the "system" in the NFL is out to hold him down (not totally wrong, it's out to hold all the players down). His acting out had nothing to do with money, but once the Raiders decided to take the guarantees, well the money was the only reason to try and make it work for him, once that incentive is gone, he'd rather be elsewhere.

He's defiantly acting manic with regards to his decisions and is placing high value on a way street for loyalty. He went nuclear when the Steelers team voted Juju for an a team award. The monetary aspect of the fines with the Raiders weren't the issue, but that they were not 100% behind him as he wiped his ass with any credibility they have left.

EDIT: I'm not interested in anything Antonio Brown does as being viewed as smart. There is no plan behind what he is doing. You know what would have been smart? Physically showing up to 85% of the offseason workouts so he could collect a guarenteed half million dollars. If he worked with the Raiders, they would now owe him 30 million.

Who said anything about any of it being smart?

Well, until he became a Patriot, I mean. ;)
