Early reaction is that Gasol’s size and discipline on defense are a problem for Embiid when he’s posting up. Gasol has been able to hold his ground and prevent Embiid from bulling his way all the way to the basket. It has turned 6 foot hook shots in 12 foot attempts, and that has been reflected in his fg%

They really need to figure out a way to get Embiid the ball deeper in the paint, he's way to far from the basket when he receives the pass.

I’m not sure who I am rooting for in this game. I think the Celtics match up better against the Sixers so I guess I want them to win but somehow I can never bring myself to root for a team from Philadelphia.

Kawhi is having a game.

This is where I'm at. Forged in the Bird-era battles, with history already established, I can't root for Philly. Plus Butler's a douche, Embiid's a bigger one, and Philly fans suck.

The only thing impressive about Gasol’s line was his +29. His defense on Embiid is a huge problem for Philly on offense. I think they need to try and get him taking Gasol off the dribble because the post-ups aren’t working.

Jokic must have channeled the spirit of Playoff Larry. He has made about 5 incredible passes and a moonshot from behind the board. When he plays with force he is great.

Denver would be winning by 20 if they hadn’t wasted half their possessions that quarter by running plays, mostly Murray isos, where Jokic didn’t touch the ball.

Welcome to Denver basketball. Murray is a great young player but he is too inconsistent to be a focal point of a team's offense. As I have noted before, they are one more consistent scorer away from being a true threat. And given Jokic's defensive limitations, even an healthy IT0 wouldn't be that guy.

What's so great about Murray? He isn't great at setting up teammates, and although he's supposed to be this great shooter, he's just ok -43.3/36.2%. He is a very good FG shooter at 88%. He is young though.

He has shown flashes of elite offensive skills but as you note, the numbers illustrate that he isn't consistent enough to be the team's true lead scorer.

I am a DeMar DeRozan fan and I want him to do well in this game, especially as a contrast to Toronto's performance this evening but he isn't exactly covering himself in glory tonight.

Nor is LMA, 1-7 and a tidy -19.

On the other hand, Jokic has been making a strong case that he can be an elite lead scorer along with his other offensive skills.

San Antonio doesn’t seem to have an answer for defending the Jokic pick and roll. Either Jokic gets the ball wide open at the elbow and the defense has to rotate onto him, opening up passing lanes for him to find cutters, or the ball handler is getting right to the rim.

Conversely, outside of Derozan nobody is trying to get to the rim for San Antonio and Rudy Gay’s shooting has really kept them in. It’s nights like these that remind you that it’s remarkable San Antonio made the playoffs with White/Mills/Forbes/Bellinelli as their guards.

San Antonio has no interior defense, if a perimeter defender gets beat it’s a free layup.

And that is why Murray is a great young player. That was the biggest shot of the kid's career and he drained it like a seasoned veteran.
