2023 "World" Juniors. That's terrible thread titling :)

That hit from Celebrini is ugly. That type of hit should definitely be removed from the sport, but it's always around and the kids need to remember their training so they don't permanently ruin, or even end, someone's life

But, this is such a great time of year. I love the World Junior tournament

Yeah, the hit is ugly, but how much is on Celebrini and how much on the guy getting hit? Celebrini was in the process of making contact when the guy turned at the last second. If he takes that hit shoulder on shoulder instead of turning his back how different does that hit look?

We all want to get the most dangerous hits out of the game but some of this stuff is on the guys carrying the puck and not just on the guy delivering the hit.

One of my favorite parts of the year - Christmas, the work lull with everybody celebrating, and WJC.

He had time to not blast that dude through the numbers. Players turn their back because that’s how you puck protect. If you’re going to rail someone you need to be sure…I hear your point but this was on MC 100% imo.

Looks like today went about as expected

Didn't see the Slovakia vs. Czechia highlights though

Biggest thing for me was the lack of fans during the US game. Felt like there was no one there

When this is hosted in NA, the games are always well attended.

Germany just upset Finland 4-3. It was Germany's first ever win against Finland, who were previously 0-25 against them, never even losing by less than 2 goals. Philipp Dietl stood on his head in net for Germany who was outshot 43-28.

Sweden played a great game against Canada. Seemed like they were able to break up a lot of plays and their goalie played really well

Hopefully Canada will get a second chance against this very good team

Sweden/Finland game is fun. 3-3 halfway through the 2nd period. These guys are chippy and the refs have not done a great job of reigning things in.

Missed Team USA beating Slovakia 10-2 to clinch Group B.

I’m sure Boston talk radio isn’t going to slam Poitras for not putting up big numbers in this tournament.

Poitras' style of play just didn't translate well to the big European ice surface, though you would think it should have.
The success he had in the NHL of protecting the puck along the boards resulted in him barely avoiding injury in the Germany game where he took two nasty hits (boarding and cross-checking) from behind.

Other than Celebrini, there were no standouts on the Canadian roster anyway.

Finally got to sit and watch the Canada game with my youngest. We're both just sitting here with mouths open

Bad bounce is all it takes sometimes

Damn. Double deflection and an open five hole results in a second goal. Fin playing w a ton of confidence.

Both looked to have come from defensive turnovers in own zone. Gotta clean that stuff up.

Nice to see BC continuing to ball out for Team USA.

Didn't watch but crazy finish in the Bronze Medal game. Czechia was down 5-2 and scored the next 6 goals. They tied it with ~1.5 minutes to go and got the go ahead 15 seconds later followed by 2 empty netters.

It was a big hit, but if they want that penalty then they would have to accept the big cross check their player retaliated with too.

Love how hockey twitter is enraged over the “classless” US team, while being oblivious to the fact that #6 on Sweden who started the brawl had :12 of ice time the entire game.

Between here and everywhere.
There is no feeling in the world I’d like to recapture more than being 16-18 years old and winning a big game and being in the locker room with the boys after.
