So who gets sent down or DFA'd for Story? Would the DFA Reyes after a walkoff grand slam? Has that ever been done before?
Shank roots for misery - you just know he is hoping for a decade of Sox failure so he can write 'The Curse Returns' before he dies.It is unbelievable how toxic the legacy Boston reporters are on any outcome outside of perfection. It's insane Trevor Story is going to play nearly 2 months this season and not only is that not good enough for Shaughnessy, but he is mocking a player who has clearly worked his ass off in an effort to get back this season. It's pathetic.
I think it might be Chang. Reyes plays both 2B and SS as competently as Chang plus can play the outfield, which probably makes him Bloom's preference even without last night's heroics. So who gets sent down or DFA'd for Story? Do any of Chang, Urias or Reyes have options? I assume noI think it might be Chang. Reyes plays both 2B and SS as competently as Chang plus can play the outfield, which probably makes him Bloom's preference even without last night's heroics.
Chang has also played quite a few games at 1B in his career. Last night makes it tough but I keep the superior defensive shortstop Chang.I think it might be Chang. Reyes plays both 2B and SS as competently as Chang plus can play the outfield, which probably makes him Bloom's preference even without last night's heroics.
Did Shank mistakenly think his name was Historia?I mean, he said "more" than Manny, so it seems like he's attempting to slam Manny again, & slam Story even harder. Either way it's sad & kinda creepy, though.
Yep. Despite the amazing Reyes game last night, Chang is a better fit for the team when Story is playing SS. If they had dealt someone like Duvall for pitching at the deadline, then Reyes would stay I’m sure. Guess we’ll find out soon enough. They seemed to go with Chang a lot more that Reyes when those were the only options, and as the better fielder, Chang has more value as a defensive replacement. Seems like an easy choice.
While I think Chang is the better defender at SS, if Story's every-other-game run is only for a week, Reyes (who also has some IF flexibility), starting at SS for 3 or 4 games is probably the better choice. I assume that, like Arroyo, either one would go unclaimed if DFA'd, and potentially can be stashed in Wistah.Reyes (.774 OPS in 77 AB) has out hit Chang (.552 OPS in 105 AB, 4 BB and 34 K) and should stay IMO. Neither has hit well over their their careers, but Reyes has still been a bit better and better over the past couple seasons. Chang has a .654 OPS in 650 career PA (.636 in 553 PA since 2021), while Reyes is at .689 in 371 PA (.719 in 188 PA since 2021).
Both have been solid defensively but Reyes has shown life at the plate and Chang hasn't. I think the player who produces in his opportunity should get the job, it's better for the team in the short term and sends the right message to the players.
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with most of what's posted, but every move being made doesn't have to involve sending a message to someone.Reyes (.774 OPS in 77 AB) has out hit Chang (.552 OPS in 105 AB, 4 BB and 34 K) and should stay IMO. Story's not going to play everyday even after the every-other-day run. So we need a backup SS/2B, even if the plan is to play Story at SS and Urias at 2B in 90% of the remaining games. While I think Chang is the better defender at SS, if Story's every-other-game run is only for a week, Reyes (who also has some IF flexibility), starting at SS for 3 or 4 games is probably the better choice. Sending messages was a popular take around these parts at the trade deadline. I guess I'm just left wondering what message might be of concern here. Fairly similar players, one might get the nod defensively the other might get the nod on offensive.Who said anything about every move?
Nobody answered your question. Maybe nobody knows? I'd like to.Do any of Chang, Urias or Reyes have options? I assume no

He's also by far the most likely of the 3 to hit well over a more extended period.Urias has 2, the others don't.
I guess so, but last night he swang and missed at an important time in the game, even if the ump missed it. I look forward to all this hitting to come. He's also by far the most likely of the 3 to hit well over a more extended period.
Our sample size is 4 games (and he's hit .286 in them). Please tell me you're joking.I guess so, but last night he swang and missed at an important time in the game, even if the ump missed it. I look forward to all this hitting to come.
Is it swang or swungI guess so, but last night he swang and missed at an important time in the game, even if the ump missed it. I look forward to all this hitting to come.
It don't mean a thang if it ain't gotta swang. Is it swang or swung
Do wa ,do wa, do wa, do waIt don't mean a thang if it ain't gotta swang.
HAHAHA.....an old collegue of mine who's no longer breathing is in this. A constant reminder of never text while walking down cement stairs.
Not that it means anything, but in his 4 games with the Sox he has a 98 ops+, pretty close to his career average of 97 over 417 games, and over the last 2 seasons he put up a 112 and a 109 in a combined 269 games. It seems safe to say he's around a league average hitter when healthy, much better than either of the other 2.I guess so, but last night he swang and missed at an important time in the game, even if the ump missed it. I look forward to all this hitting to come.
Patty Smyth and Terri Nunn were my first musical crushes. She's a smoke show in that video. Is it Benjy you're referring to who's no longer with us?HAHAHA.....an old collegue of mine who's no longer breathing is in this. A constant reminder of never text while walking down cement stairs.
Not good to be shorthanded like this-- Story is only supposed to play alternating games, and Turner is on the roster but can't play for a few more games at least.“Hopefully we can get him ready for the weekend,” Sox manager Alex Cora said.
Turner was injured in Seattle on July 31 when he lunged for first base to beat out an infield single in the ninth inning. He missed the next three games then returned Saturday. He was 2 for 10 over three games and appeared uncomfortable at the plate.
The righthander, out since July 3 with an elbow injury, is expected to work 2-3 innings in preparation of joining the Red Sox over the weekend in a relief role.
Arm seems OK at least.Story was 0 for 4 with 3Ks in his return. Clearly still very rusty.
Batting third in the lineup.Story was 0 for 4 with 3Ks in his return. Clearly still very rusty.
Terri Nunn. 1st album back cover had her listed doing vocals and bj's. Drank with the band once but didn't get to talk with her much....just "Oh, you're Benji's friend? Cool" (Yeah)Patty Smyth and Terri Nunn were my first musical crushes. She's a smoke show in that video. Is it Benjy you're referring to who's no longer with us?
Certainly his worst season in terms of time spent on the IL. He was last on the IL at the start of 2021 (missed the first two weeks). He missed about half of 2020 with injuries as well (COVID year so only about five weeks). That's it prior to this year.Dang, has he had a bunch of injury issues before or is this just a breakout year for them? Guy is cursed.
I don't know why he signed here in the first place. He's getting in good shape to sign somewhere else next year.
We traded (Josh Taylor) for him.I don't know why he signed here in the first place.
