@mwonow and I are happy to bring you the 2020 Draft Contest.

Like last year this contest will have 2 parts. The first part is the same as last year: a weighted scoring system for the right draft picks and UDFAs. The second part is a different this year. This year instead of doing a 53 man roster competition we are going to donate for the person who correctly identifies the most draft picks and UDFAs total.

Scoring is for the weighted system is just like previous years: three points for each player selected by the Pats in the first three rounds - 4 for round 4, 5 for round 5, 6 for round 6, 7 for round 7, and 8 pts for naming UDFAs signed by the Pats within 72 hours of the end of the draft. In an echo of sorts from previous years, 3 bonus points if a player on your list gets picked #241- the "Fleming memorial" (or with whatever pick ends up being the last one made by the Pats in the draft).

Which players will get the opportunity to join the next dynasty? As always, if history is any guide, your guesses will be better than ours...

Let's get the contest in gear! I'd appreciate it if your entry took the form of last name, first name, position, college; your thoughts on the player are optional, but always appreciated.

Free to enter, and bragging rights for whoever picks best - plus SMU_Sox and I will donate $100 to the SoSH charity of choice in the name of whoever wins - and as mentioned, will add a second $100 for the most correct picks.

Looking forward to hearing what/who you think the Pats will add through the draft, and why!

As an added bonus sometime Sunday/Monday @Brand Name and I (as well as @Alykins32 and two non SOSHers) are going to drop a couple of "podcast" style previews of each position group for the draft with a Patriots lens starting with the defensive side of the ball and hopefully offense sometime Monday or Tuesday. The pods should help frame the draft for the Patriots as well as give you some names to think about that would (hopefully) help in the contest and who we think would be good additions.

19) Keene, Dalton, TE, Virginia Tech
20) Kmet, Cole, TE, Notre Dame

Notes predraft
2-3 guys who probably wind up in there are Devin Asiasi TE out of UCLA, Dalton Keene TE out of Virginia Tech, and Josiah Deguara TE/FB/HB/whatever out of Cincinnati. I also wonder if they take a sturdier but less athletic edge later like Bradlee Anae (his hands are so so so sweet) or Jon Greenard.

I feel like I usually have a decent handle on who they are looking at and why but this year is bizarre. They've spent a lot of meetings on offensive linemen and from reading the tea leaves might take one at 23 if they don't trade back (or trade back and take one anyway). They are at such a crossroads next year with the front 7 that it's hard to narrow in on a cluster of guys they might take to fill one of their usual positions.

I am not a big fan of the QB class this year and in particular Jordan Love who I see as a turnover machine with awful decision making and poor vision. I liked Patrick Mahomes. I liked Watson. I liked Lamar. He's fools gold. I was wrong about Josh Allen and I could be wrong here but I don't like what I see.

I have heard Javon Kinlaw is going to fall for medical reasons. He, Tristian Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas or one of the big 4 WRs is my dream at 23. I still have no idea aside from OL who they would look at at 23 given that BB doesn't tend to spend on the edge much and none of the DTs are can't miss (unless he loves Davidson, Blacklock or Madubuike?).

That reminds me - I should start a thread in the other forum for what happens at 23. I will compile what I have heard from Lombardi (sometimes you have to infer but you had to infer last year and the year before too HT SN) as well as what higher end prospects scream Patriots.

Just in case you like mock drafts, it should be noted that since the 2012 draft, Walter Football has nailed exactly ONE correct Patriots pick. One in over 50 picks. Braxton Berrios. I will be interested to do a little research on other mock sites. Boys at SOSH seem to do a lot better.

Hey SMU, thanks! I completely gapped after your PM...

Here is my list. As always, past performance suggests it will be worse than whatever you have (regardless of who you are!)

Tagovailoa, Tua - QB - Alabama - this is my "Wilfork commemorative" pick, celebrating the one and only time that a guy who I wanted to see slide to the Pats, actually slid to the Pats
Herbert, Justin - QB - Oregon - covering my bases here, hoping for a QB
Morgan, James - QB - FIU - still covering
Lewerke, Brian - QB - Michigan St - because BB knows that Brady would be especially irked if BB hoisted a Lombardy with a Mich St QB
Trautman, Adam - TE - Dayton - need a TE
Bryant, Hunter - TE - Washington - need at least one, maybe two TEs
Keene, Dalton - TE - Virginia Tech - maybe three?
Murray, Kenneth - LB - Oklahoma - need LBs (plural)
Davis-Gaither, Akeem - LB - Appalachian St
Martin, Kamal - LB - Minnesota
Quarterman, Shaquille - LB - Miami
Chinn, Jeremy - S - S. Illinois - youth, speed, size...
Dugger, Kyle - S - Lenoir-Rhyne - also a returner
Sneed. L'Jarius - S - Louisiana Tech
Bass, Tyler - K - Georgia Southern - I think BB drafts a K whose name starts with a B
Blankenship, Rodrigo - K - Georgia - this guy fits the K/B thing, too
Becton, Mekhi, OL, Louisville - I never thing BB will spend a high pick on an OL - but I'm pretty well always wrong, so this is a reverse jinx pick
Bartch, Ben - OL - Minnesota
Ruiz, Cesar - C - Michigan - might be needed...
Biadasz, Tyler - C - Wisconsin - another C possibility
Fotu, Leki - DT - Utah - we're down a rugby player

And BB/Nike decided to twist the knife by taking a different LB from Wyoming.

I don't think I've ever tried this. Here goes nothing. Admittedly I have too many edge players, and not enough later round picks.

1) Harrison, Malik, OLB, OSU
2) Chaisson, K'Laivon, Edge, LSU
3) Greenard, Jonathan, Edge, UF
4) Jefferson, Van, WR, UF
5) Jones, Josh, OT, Houston
6) Lawrence, Rashard, DL, LSU
7) Hamilton, DaVon, DL, OSU
8) Gross-Matos, Yetur, Edge, PSU
9) Kmet, Cole, TE, ND
10) Wilson, Logan, LB, Wyoming
11) Pittman Jr., Michael, WR, USC
12) Aiyuk, Brandon, WR, ASU
13) Bredeson, Ben, G, UM
14) Lewis, Terrelle, Edge, Bama
15) Jennings, Anfernee, Edge, Bama
16) Weaver, Evan, LB, Cal
17) Blankenship, Rodrigo, K, UGA
18) Bass, Tyler, K, Georgia Southern
19) Peart, Matt, T, UConn
20) Wonnum, DJ, Edge, South Carolina
Just Jennings for me. Wrong UM guard.

Requesting @Dollar show his work on how the hell he came up with Kyahva Tezino. Wow.
I clicked on draft prospect profiles with names and schools that I found interesting, and read through the player overviews and strengths/weaknesses to see if they reminded me of anyone in Pats history, occasionally watching a highlight reel or two on Youtube. Tezino specifically had strong late-90s Bruschi vibes for me.
Athletic limitations and a lack of pursuit speed could short-circuit his chances as a draft prospect, but he plays the game with a natural level of aggression and toughness that will appeal to a coaching staff. Tezino's instincts and poise show up inside the box and it's rare to see him play with wasted motion and false steps when flowing downhill.
I'm just sad that the Pats didn't pick up Danny Woodhead Jr, aka Pete "The Jet" Guerriero.

I think @Cellar-Door wins with 3 picks and a total of 12 points.

Thank you @Ferm Sheller next year I will have gone to the scouting academy so should be even more helpful. That starts May 11th and I couldn’t be more excited.

Last note: I am still waiting for the official UDFA list so tentatively @Cellar-Door is the winner for both. I will wait for Patriots.com to have the official list posted sometime in the next week but I wanted to make sure and pay my debts.
