at 27, that's actually pretty good.
The value was definitely there and he fills a need for us which is what Ainge was looking to do on a nice cheap rookie deal. I disagree with all the talk about Williams having all this lottery talent, being a home run, etc etc. simply because he's an awful offensive player and an even worse passer. I think I had him 21 or 22 and an overhyped type but this is a great fit here for both the player and the Celtics in the role he'll play.

I don’t know this guy but based on the highlights, it looks like he can handle the rock pretty well. And as a big defensive player of the year, do we have someone who might be able to cover Embiid for the next 5 years?

Ainge will kick the tires on everything, but I think in the end a move into the top 4 or 5 for Bamba or Doncic will be too expensive for his tastes. I would not be surprised if he makes a move into the mid-teens to grab Robert Williams. I think he wants a big man out of this draft to pair with Brown and Tatum down the road for the 2022 NBA champs.

Hey now!

Somewhere
They have a strong enough locker room and organization to hopefully overcome any off court issues, and hopefully he comes in with a chip on his shoulder. Surprised they went for the homerun vs the certainty of a cost controlled rotation player but I trust the talent evaluation and he has a ton of upside. If he hits he’s a perfect fit long term as a defensive anchor.
Well, unlike a wing he will get minutes. Just not a lot of them.

I actually think Williams is that certainty of a backup big rotation player and not a homerun since he doesn't have any offensive game.

If BobWill doesn't play hard, he doesn't get on the court. What kind of a colossal dog do you have to be to join a team with vets like Kyrie, Horford, and Hawyard, and young, hard working stars like Tatum and Jaylen, and you don't put in a big effort?

All this guy has to do is get and stay in great condition, run the floor, set picks and roll to the rim for lobs, hit the glass on both ends, and try on defense and he's going to play himself into a valuable contributor on a top 4 NBA team.

I look at it as a homerun from the standpoint of is he playable in the modern NBA if his offense doesn’t develop? The more I think about it the the more I believe he has a pretty solid floor as a defensive backup big barring him being a complete dog effortwise. I just think there’s more risk there than someone like Evans or Brunson.

At #27, Williams is a pretty ideal pick given this team's roster.

I can't believe he lasted this long. Super pumped.

Mixed bag on Williams. He'll eventually give you some of what Baynes does on defense, maybe more rim protection eventually, but likely less positional awareness. On offense..... he'll roll to the rim, but he's not going to be Baynes. There's no indication he'll develop a shot as his FT% is abysmal.

Maybe they change the offense and try to make him a Capela clone? Overall seems like a career backup big is most likely his role.

At #27, you’ll take that and run with it. He’s an energy big off the bench and will clean up the garbage. He’ll be useful to us once he matures a bit. I’m pumped and jacked right now.

He may be a taller version of Montrezl Harrell, in which event it's a decent pick. Harrell can't shoot free throws wither.

Just make Embiid's life a living hell for 25 min a game for the next decade and I'm happy.

I don't really get the comedy from everyone on the trade.
I like zhaire, much higher ceiling much lower floor.
I'd rather have Bridges, but he's overrated defensively esp on ball and I didn't buy any real upside from here.

An unprotected first?!
Look if zhaire doesn't shoot that sucks and is a major issue, but he's a better defender than Bridges is three years younger is more althetic and has a better first step.

He's the most althetic player on the team, and good cutter. So he's gonna get dunks.
He's also switchable 1-4

I would bet on him developing his handle, his first step is elite but yeah he has to shoot for a home run.

Edit also 2021 is the year one and done is probably done so extra juice that year? Two years of talent

There's value in a third big growing up in Brad's system. What's Brad been doing for the last few years? Putting phenomenal athletes in a position to be successful. If he fits with the C's mentally, he's the perfect type of athlete and the first athletic big guy that Danny has drafted for Brad.

Dude, we're all going to look back on that trade as a good one for Philly. I highly doubt you'll be making the pick. It's a valuable trade chip to push a deal over the edge.

I’m excited to see his fit but his FT% is a huge red flag. They dont play the same position but Ojeleye was problematic at times last year due to shooting and its effect on spacing.

Here's one impressive scouting report on Williams, and something I imagine Stevens can do a lot with:

"There are NBA bigs who have size and can defend on the perimeter. There are NBA bigs who have size and and can protect the rim. But, even in the NBA game, it is rare to find a big who can both defend on the perimeter and provide rim protection. Williams can do both."

100% agree. Great trade chip.
Wasn’t most of the comedy the fact that Bridges was coming home and his Mom was all excited and oh wait now you’re going to Phoenix? Getting the Heat 2021 to move down 6 slots is great (even given that I like Bridges more than Smith).

Danny is never going to trade Rozier. He told him on FaceTime we were taking Williams a pick ahead of time. Rozier is a trip.

Yeah sure, but the thread was all he can't shoot sixers are dumb
Shrug

All I know colangelo last year traded up twice and .... Well

This year sixers traded two seconds for 3 future seconds and an unprotected first for trading down.

Very good value trade. I just didn’t like the pick of Smith. Think Lonnie Walker would have been a better one or even Donte’s Inferno.

Missed it. I m

I must have gone for coffee.
I may live to regret asking thus but... I need to ask:

It never occurred to you to check the internet to see who had been drafted? I’m legitimately curious.

We're going to hate on everything they do whether we think it's good or not. As hate goes this was real mild. Sorry for not doing backflips over a decent but not overwhelmingly good move.

Overall the sequence went MCW for LA pick, LA pick for lower pick with some more upside and a potentially good future pick. So, yeah, shrug sounds about right.
