Wow, good for Brock, well deserved. I thought X would be the selection.

Love it.

Guys like him deserve to be celebrated every now and then. I'll be a little disappointed when he doesn't play at least three positions.

There's a decent argument that he is the MVP on this team. Of course, there is his versatility. Playing all those positions well is of such a benefit. While he has cooled off at the bat, he remains dangerous at the plate and continues to get timely hits. I suspect he always knows how many outs there are and what the count is. And, he may be a good force in the clubhouse. In sum he's a baseball guy.

Josh Harrison last year, BROCKHOLT this year. Back to back years super utility guys make it. Now, Go Bogey!

He's certainly in the conversation. I have no problem with Holt making it and there is a decent chance that X deservedly joins him.

AllStar BrockHolt! A fitting tribute for his last 15 months, and an irritant to the Yankees -- what's not to love?

Well "Yankee Twitter" is dumb, someone from the RedSox needed to make it.

Edit:It would be a major upset if anyone but Moustakis makes it, I assume Royals fans will stuff this ballot box as well.

Side note:the guy they traded for him, Melancon, made his second all-star game.

I was feeling optimistic about Bogaerts's chances until I saw Moustakas on the list. Xander has no chance unless the Kansas City votebots have all been shut down already.

This is the most wonderful surprise. I am flabbergasted and extremely pleased. It's hard to imagine him actually playing in this game, though. Why would you sub for an all-star? I reckon it's more an honor than a real opportunity to play.

All of the starters eventually come out nowadays. He could get in in many ways, one being if Yost wants to pinch hit for anybody, say Iggy if he's coming up. He could PH with Brock, or put Brock in at SS if he pinch hits with somebody else. Apply that to any position except catcher (pitchers don't hit). Also, the way Yost talked about Brock being deserving and that super utility players should be celebrated, I have a feeling he'll get him in there.

Bogaerts was out to a lead

#XforASG 32.7%
#VoteDozier 20.3%
#VoteMoose 18.1%
#Voteyo 14.7%
#VoteGardy 14.1%

but the fine print says twitter votes only count from 10a to 4p on Friday.

Is this the worst Red Sox all star since Scott Cooper?
Perhaps. But Holt is on pace for a better year than Cooper put up in either all star season.

Two-time All Star Scott Cooper
(Full season, all star years)

1993: .279/.355/.397
1994: .282/.333/.453

First-time All Star BROCKHOLT
(YTD)

2015: .295/.383/.424

Uh, if they're in the game, they're all all-stars, no?  They all get to play, except maybe a pitcher or two held out either by request of their own manager or in case of extra innings.

I think it would be criminal if Holt not only doesn't get into the game, but also doesn't move around and play at least three positions defensively.  Should be fairly simple to do.  He hits for Escobar, plays an inning at SS, then Iglesias hits for Gordon, allowing Holt to move to LF, and so on.  Yost's endorsement of him seems only to lend credence to such a plan.

Speaking of guys with ALL STAR on their resume.  Prior to the 2002 season Rasputin promised to fuck a sheep in Central Park if Shea Hillenbrand made the ALL STAR team.  Only he knows if he kept his word.

One guy on that list contributed a great deal to this franchise and deserves every honor he gets.

But Congrats Brock! How cool is this?

Wakefield led the AL in wins when he was selected.  It was a flukey-good year for him, but it was a deserved all star selection.

Totally agree.  I could also see Yost playing him multiple positions in one inning to highlight the versatility thing. Instead of pulling guys between innings, he pulls them mid-inning, lets each get the ovation from the crowd, and moves Holt around. Let them get NBA-style leaving-the-game huzzahs.

Congratulations, well-deserved. I was there in April '14 for one of his first Fenway at-bats, wondering, Wait, Who?!? Now I know. Now, all of baseball shall know. Enjoy your Cincinnati #BROCKSTAR parking Mr. Holt! Go X!

Holt interviewed on NESN and asked how his parents took it. "My father was pumped, and my mother cries over everything, so she shed some tears." He hit an upper deck home run in Arlington last year and his mother happened to be up there and they got her on camera. She went crazy. Pretty neat.

I need to explain my suggestion that he might not play. I was under the impression that there would be several chosen for each position, so that if a SS goes out, for example, another SS would replace him. I was thinking that if Holt got the spot instead of a chosen SS, the other SSs might be pissed. But I completely forgot that the game will be conducted under NL rules. That changes everything, and I am hopeful to see my favorite, BROCKHOLT, in as many positions as possible. (I do remember some AllStar games when everyone doesn't get into the game, though.)
