I love and believe in BB to eternity.

He absolutely fucked up by not giving Brady a 2-3 year extension.

It is wrong on all levels that Brady is not still a Patriot.

He didn't want to stay.

Agreed. He wanted out because he knew the team around him stunk.
I think he wanted out because he realized BB was never going to give him the length on the contract he wanted. Once they started 2019 and he realized he'd definitely reach the FA market he decided to leave, imo.

Their chance to keep him was extending him after SB 53.

He wanted out after Super Bowl 52 and Kraft had to broker a peace between them.

I don't think he was so upset at continuing to roll with 2 year contracts on the Pats that he left to take a 2 year contract from TB.

Yeah. We had no cap space and no playmakers on offense. It was a miracle Brady could do what he did with the pats all this time with the lack of”playmakers” on offense.

IMO he was tired of carrying the team on his back for 10+ years.

What a crazy sentiment. If the Pats had Tampa's roster and Gronk had never retired and BB moved on, then sure, he was wrong. But Brady would have been watching the SB from the couch like the rest of us had he stayed. The Pats were not, in any way, a $30M/yr QB away from winning the Superbowl. So how is that BB was wrong?

I'm so grossed out by the whole thing. I was sitting next to a guy wearing a Bucs jersey the other day and heard him talking about Brady and realized he's not our guy anymore, he their guy now. It was an odd feeling and I hated it.

I'm happy for the guy, but this was my worst nightmare. I'm fucking bitter it's ended like this.

Yeah, I think people are underrating how stacked this TB team is.

Belichick sold out to get the team to the last Super Bowls they were in. Brady wasnt bringing any reasonable form of this team to the SB, Tampa put a ton of talent around him

Bingo. Is everyone forgetting what the offense looked like in the second half of 2019 and the Titans loss? Tom cares about one thing more than any other, winning the next championship, and I'm thrilled that he was able to make it happen.

Sour grapes. BB wasn't wrong and Tom wasn't wrong either. It was time to part ways. Tom might have made this years team a little better but the receivers sucked. BB needed to rebuild and Tom needed a change of scenery. Shit happens.

Remember after the first game, when the Pats look good and the Saints rolled Tampa, with all the "You're not in the AFC East now" takes?

For basically the entire back half of the Patriots' run, people outside NE only seemed to praise one of TB and BB in order to denigrate the other.

This is stage one. The next Patriots super bowl will be the culmination of Operation Shut The Fuck Up Forever.

also. We had a crap load of players opt out this year for covid.
Brady would not have saved the pats this season. We had to many holes and weak spots all across the roster.

Yep. It’s worth noting that, after 2019, it was a lot easier for Brady to essentially pick the team he wanted to go to based on talent. Whereas Belichick was stuck with the team he had (which, admittedly, was of his creation).

Eh, they finagled the cap for several years, and won 3 Super Bowls. They tried for one last ride last year, with AB, Sanu, etc., and it didn’t work out. I don’t think there was a fuck up, more that things end.

Being a Pats fan was such an immense joy for nearly 20 years, I just can’t work up the bile some of you do.

# 12 and the Bucs made it look easy. There will never be another Tom Brady, no way he played today if he stayed, just the truth, he might get 10 with the crowd around him

This feels pretty spot on. The national media will remember this as the crown jewel of Brady's career and Bill's legacy will be diminished in the eyes of national pundits looking to stoke their twitter followers. That part is a bummer to me.

In hindsight, the best move would have been to extend Brady after the Falcons Super Bowl and trade Jimmy to the Browns for draft picks before the 2017 draft. It may have helped add young talent that the 2019 and 2020 teams needed.

It's sooooo dumb. In NO way does this diminish BB. Jermaine Wiggins, of all people, put it this way: in the post-TB/BB Pats world, round one went to Brady, but it's not a one-round fight. (I don't even like the Brady vs Belichick narrative...it's completely stupid)

Yes because the two situations are exactly comparable. Come on.

If LeBron had won six titles in Cleveland he absolutely would have been “their” guy.
That’s my point. Patriots fans can call Brady “our” guy more than basically anything other great player and fan base in the modern era. Every other is going to be Sox and Dodgers fans arguing whether Mookie is their guy or three cities fighting over Lebron.

This is spot on. Also, it's always been BB's position and pretty much accepted that its better to move on a year early than a year late. If Brady has a middle of the pack, good not great year next season, or dare I say bad season, was it still the wrong decision?

It is dumb. It turns me off from sports talk entirely and I grew up on sports talk. I know people around me find it boring, so I keep it to myself when commuting. I could listen to banal out-of-market sports talk on a road trip for days, but we'll see, maybe I'll find something more interesting for upcoming commutes in my post-COVID life. The Brady v Belichick thing is just brutal and not worth engaging.

If people want to be short-sighted, sure. But the dude lead the defense of one of the more explosive defense in the 80s, and won 2 SBs while doing it.

Anyone that thinks Brady wins 7 without BB (or vice versa) is crazy. Brady won a title without BB. Maybe BB never wins another one. It doesnt make him any less great.

This also kind of diminishes what Brady just did. Said another way, swapping Brady for Winston and no way Tampa Bay are Super Bowl champions.
Yes. But it’s a great QB+ a great supporting cast in Tampa

a great QB can elevate that great supporting cast to new nights and makes the job of that “great” QB much easier

you could have HOF players at every position, but it won’t mean shit if your QB is as accurate as Winston.

we saw that here. Brady accomplished what he did with the pats, while having almost no “star” supporting cast. And more often that not they got over that hump because of Brady.
Like I said previously. I think Brady was tired of having to carry the load for the pats for a full season for 10+ years. I bet it was frustrating and very emotionally draining for him. which I bet is why he lobbied to get AB to the pats. So he could at least have that one “playmaker”.

Ten years? Jesus. As if they didn’t field good to great teams around him.

Anyone who saw Super Bowl 53 knows that the defense won that game.

I'm clinging to this real hard. But right now, Gronk's first half love and Hill hate is the only thng keeping me from Fl4wless territory.

Sure, but swapping Brady for Darnold and no way the Jets are Super Bowl contenders. Brady had a great year and led his team to a Super Bowl. But he chose to go to a loaded team, which wasn't surprising, and certainly was his right. But let's acknowledge the reality of the situation.

He could have easily been the difference in 3 games. Then they're in the playoffs. Then anything is possible. (See, Giants)

The biggest difference in the game wasn't Brady v. Mahomes, it was that the Bucs had 6 OL starters (given how well Gronk blocks) and KC had 2. And their front 6 (on defense in nickel) is better than KC's too.

Outside of QB, they were significantly worse in 2020 than they were in 2019. And in 2019 they weren’t particularly close to the Super Bowl.

TB beat KC this year with a stacked DL and stacked offense. Even if Brady returned to the Pats they would have been missing 2/3 of that recipe.

I agree that Brady went to a team with more offensive talent than the Pats and a very strong young defense. But Brady also helped lead them to a title. He played great after the bye (weapons or not).
I mean football is a team sport; teammates matter.
Also, no QB was going to win a title with the Jets this year.

This is the correct take on the situation. without Brady, KC rolls to a win, and the national media is talking about Mahomes as....the next Brady. With Brady, TB demolished KC and Mahomes looks like a frog roadkill. He was terrible tonight, heaving up passes under pressure for the sake of it, and scrambling all over the place, also for no reason. He looked like a cross between the Russell Wilson and Roethlisberger, except with the bad parts of each. Now—even if Mahomes wins a bunch of titleX he’ll always have the “couldn’t beat Brady when it counted” asterisk.
