The warts and flaws have been and are worth pointing out, but at the end of the day as steward of the franchise he delivered three straight division titles and a season/championship that none of us will forget until the day we die. He brought in Sale, Price, JD, and Kimbrel, and also held on to Devers, signed Xander long-term, and hired one of the best young managers in baseball. He deserves the requisite praise and thanks for these accomplishments.

The team is a tremendous amount of fun to watch. Last year, we got every bounce, everything Came Up Milhouse, and it resulted in the most epic collective kickers of baseball ass that most of us can recall seeing. It drew comparisons to the 1998 Yankees, if not the 1927 Yankees. This year, the karma flipped in a big way, things didn't pan out, and our luck with injuries and performance turned. But you know what? The team is STILL fun to watch, just don't expect victory quite as much as you did last year.

I was skeptical when he joined, but Dave Dombrowski crafted a hell of a team. I'm as grateful to him as I could be to a GM not named Theo Epstein. Enjoy your next stop, DDski!

That 2018 team was absolutely dominant as well as fun to watch. I had a couple of colleagues who were Astros and Dodgers fans, and they both mentioned how it was unbelievable that the hitters would do so much damage in the playoffs with 2 strikes and 2 outs. Everyone seemed to acknowledge that team was unstoppable and relentless. So, I'll tip my hat to DD for his role in building that team. I like World Series titles much more than Payroll Efficiency titles.

Part of my post from the "DD fired" thread...

I will forever be appreciative of Dave Dombrowski for giving me the 2018 season. That year was pure joy, from the hiring of Alex Cora, to the World Series victory. 2004 was a higher peak, but I have never enjoyed a 12 month stretch of baseball more than I did last season.

Ummmmm...NO

I've had the debate about Price with a friend who would swear up and down that Dombrowski was brought it
just to be able to sign Price. As he had a "relationship" with him.
Still shake my head at that one.
I'm sure Ben could have written "7/210+" on a napkin and slid it across the table juuuuuuust as easliy.

There isn't one thing DD did that couldn't have been done by another GM/PBOPs

Winning the AL East 3 times in a row and what '18 turned out to be, Dombrowski should be considered to be, arguably, the best Red Sox GM/Baseball Exec. Thanks Dave and good luck and hoping you get another shot soon.
Edited because I had a Duquette flashback.

Last year was definitely an amazing year.
And pretty much most of his time here was great.

Thanks, Dave Dombrowski
Hopefully the next GM won't have initials that were used for a previous GM / someone who was a GM elsewhere during his tenure, and people using those initials regardless of that.

What, like win a World Series? Only two other GMs have done that with this franchise in the last century.

Oh, you mean assemble a Red Sox team that won 108 games? No other GM has ever done that.

All the whining about Price's contract? Did you guys even watch the World Series?

Thank you indeed, Dave Dombrowski!

No kidding. Thanks for starting this thread. I'm not unhappy at all to see DD go, as he might not be the best guy for what lies ahead.

But what he did do was truly fantastic. A few years from now, after the dust settles and we see with perspective, he will be appreciated for bringing us a truly wondrous 2018.

Three straight division titles (never before done) and an absolutely enjoyable and dominate 2018. Plus he got Sale, who my youngest has adopted as his fav player.

I hope I’m never so jaded as to believe that record is anything less than a success.

Thanks Dave!

Thanks DD!

We are spoiled and entitled now, and you gave us our fourth this century. Sucks you had to go out after some missteps.

Uhhh, if you hate a single signing so much that you can't even be bothered to appreciate even a little bit that the guy's other work (and, yes, that particular signing, as well) brought the team a World Series win and one of the best seasons in league history, well....

I hate to break it to you, but sports might not really be your thing.

2013 was close because it was after the nightmare ending of 2011 and the nightmare of Valentine's 2012 season. It was the best thing that could have happened with role players like Gomes and Victorino etc.. who would have thought?? 2018 team was obviously better and it it was a bucket list for me for the Red Sox to win a WS with a team with well over 100 wins and so dominant. List complete.

Dave Dombrowski was a primary architect of arguably the greatest Red Sox team ever and one of the best baseball teams of all time, period. The 2018 season will forever be a cherished memory of mine and I have nothing but gratitude towards DD for helping to make that magical year happen. Thank you for everything, Dave, and I wish you the best of luck going forward.

DD did the job he was hired to do. A 3-year run of fun-to-watch baseball was the result — including the 2018 team, which was the best Red Sox team of my lifetime. Even as someone who is supportive of ownership’s decision to move on, I have nothing but gratitude for the job DD did. And if he wants to write one more chapter in his stellar career, I hope he finds success with a National League team that needs his talents.

The logic of this statement, to the extent there is any, applies to literally every GM ever.
The same would then apply to the response i suppose.

Believe it or not, every year a new GM wins a world series(or wins another one)
Just because it isn't "our guy" doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

At 17million posts here, you don't seem to spend much time doing much else in life,
but there is a whole world outside of Boston sports.

Let me guess, DD was so brilliant he specifically knew that Pearce would do what he did and should be
standing right next to Papi, in statue form some day? Please....

I think there ARE dynamic GMs in any game. I think most are propped up, or taken down, by the "ops" team that are under them.
Do you really think its DD that targets a guy like Pearce? NO, its the team under him that does the real research and deep dives into the
stats. A GM may flick the switch, but DD looks like he spends more time on his hair than on a players adv metrics.

Thanks for assembling the best Red Sox team I'll ever see in my lifetime.

Thanks for telling the White Sox that Devers wouldn't be in the deal.

Thanks for the Bogaerts extension.

+1.

The man came in & did what he was expected to do. If the organization is moving in a different direction & don't see DD as being the guy for that, it doesn't diminish what he accomplished.

I was actually going to post that picking up Pearce and Eovaldi were two of his "smaller" moves that proved phenomenally successful, key to their WS win, and for which we should be thankful. They fit the club's needs perfectly and performed admirably, especially in the WS. And yes, even if some other staff id'd Pearce or EO as the guys to get, DD the GM gets credit for employing the right people who made the right calls. Moreover, while many GMs could have identified the need for a RH bat and procured Pearce or someone comparable, DD also had to convince ownership that cutting bait on Hanley was necessary. And he did timely and decisively cut him. I don't think every GM would have acted similarly.

For my part, I appreciated the man's quick-fire, not-messing-around approach to going out and getting his man. We needed a SP, bam -- he signed Price (who was clearly the best guy available). We needed a closer, BOOM -- he trades for the other best guy Kimbrel. We needed a middle-of-the-rotation starter, WHAM -- he trades Espinoza for Pomeranz. We need another ace, BOO-YAH -- he goes and deals Moncada and Kopech for Sale before anyone knew what hit them. And just as important: Cora. He waits another week out of respect for Farrell and the rest of MLB, he maybe loses his man.

I know as a board we analyze players to an incredibly fine degree and can talk about whether every one of those deals were overpays. But roster construction is as much an art as it is a science. And as a sports fan--that is, a fan of a team I want to win--there was something almost cathartic about Dombrowski's style after years of consternation over every deal and every prospect. To me, it was a relief ... and it paid off big time in 2018.

Thank you, Dave.

It isn't often that someone comes in and does exactly what they set out to do. Yes, there are pluses and minuses to his approach, but we all knew the plan. The plan was executed and the results were glorious.

Kudos to DD for a job well done. Thanks.
