A Lost Time
So, this article argues that Pau Gasol is actually the 4th best big man on the Bulls roster and that he's just putting empty stats while clogging the bulls spacing, throwing Noah off his game and playing bad defense. The solution? Play Mirotic more. It sounded convincing to me. I know that Rose is still not back 100% and Noah had health issues, but I still thought the Bulls would be doing better at this point.

I was actually pretty bearish on the Bulls coming into the season. As noted in the article, Pau is a longstanding defensive liability and creates rotational challenges with Gibson, Mirotic, and Noah. I was also amazed at how many people thought Rose would come back healthy, resembling his former self: This is a guy whose game was predicated on explosive athleticism, suffered two major knee injuries, and hadn't had a relevant NBA moment since *2012*. It was a lot of fun while it lasted, but he's in a different phase of his career now (arguably no longer in the top half of NBA PGs).

It wouldn't shock me if they lost an opening round playoff series to Washington (4/5)... and then, who knows? There's a lot of smoke surrounding Thib's dissatisfaction with the front office. It could all blow up this spring.

They were supposedly going to wait until all the other coaching positions were filled and then fire him to assure he couldn't coach next season.  I wonder if they want JVG (or Skiles/Gentry) and now that the Pelicans are interviewing him, felt they needed to make the move.

Something spurred them to do this now.

Very good point. They were trying to get a 1st round pick in return but then when other viable candidates materialized it didn't make sense to allow one of those candidates to fill the NO and/or Orlando jobs.

When your best players choose to leave town in the of season to get away from the coach it is never a good thing. Sure feel bad for the players Thibs demoralizes next.

No, that was all just media speculation.  The Bulls don't want to pay Thibs remaining salary, roughly $9m over two years.  If he picks up with Orlando or New Orleans, the Bulls will only pay the difference between $9m and the first two years of his new deal (if any).

And it's Fred Hoiberg coming to town.  Foreman's love of Hoiberg is a very poorly kept secret.  And it will be interesting to watch since Hoiberg runs a up tempo, ball movement, lots of 3's offensive system at Iowa State and is know for being a players coach (whatever that means).  From the outside, he seems like an anti-Thibs.

Now imagine the defensive schemes Thibs could build around Anthony Davis...

Where does Thibs go now? Back to assist Doc in LA? Another shot at HC I would think, but who knows.
Thibs is ideal for a young team like Orlando but so is Skiles and the latter has connections to that ownership group and the city. Either coach should get the team to overachieve similar to what the Celtics did this past season however both have reputations of not being the most flexible of individuals. They wear out their welcome fast.

Please keep Thibs as far from Davis as possible. There is no ceiling to the potential of an offense built around Davis. I would hate to see his potential wasted in a Thibs offense.
