I think they like the system fit and the fact that Texas is bringing in the top-rated OL class in country.

Does seem like a bit of an odd choice with Ewers just one real year ahead of him plus obviously that Texas just generally hasn't been a contender in a while. But I guess with the portal these days, it's easy enough to go somewhere else if you don't like how things are shaping up.

Had essentially an entire offensive line commit today. Big men.

Jaydon Chatman 6'4" 300
Trevor Goosby 6'6" 290
Andre Cojoe 6'6" 330
Connor Stroh 6'6" 345

Add a 4 star WR, Cook (who will be a 5 star after this season) and Texas now is 1 point out from the top rated recruiting class.

Sark might be a shitty coach, but he's moved mountains and improved the offensive talent coming in.

Ten commitments, 3 of which are 5 stars, in less than 7 days. Holy smokes.

I'm continuing my day of begging SoSH for logistical help here. My now-middle-aged college friends and I do a trip every few years, and we've settled on Austin for the next one this fall. We would like to go see a UT game while we're there because we all went to an FCS school and have by and large not experienced big-time college football. UT will be playing Kansas, which feels like it would be a less in-demand ticket than some others. So, three questions.

First, am I better off buying tickets now or waiting until closer in? Prices now seem high, but maybe that's just what it costs to get in. Second, is there some specific place/thing we should be going/doing prior to the game for atmosphere? Third...what else should I be thinking about here? I can't emphasize strongly enough little of a fucking idea I have of what I'm doing here. All thoughts welcome!

What FCS school?

Others here will be able to give you much better advice than me, but:

re: ticket prices will depend on how the team's doing. If they upset Alabama and are 4-0 for the first Power 5 home game of the season during a nice time of year, I think it will be a hot ticket. If they're 2-2, much less so. So I think I'd ask yourself which direction you'd rather be wrong.

re: pregame -- If you can, I always think embedding with a regular tailgate is the best experience, but I wouldn't be able to tell you how to do that, unfortunately. Otherwise, UT has done a lot to build up the activities around the stadium. There will be a free concert, food/drinks for sale, you can see Bevo walk to the stadium, etc. There's plenty to do and plenty of atmosphere.

For Kansas, I’d wait until week if and StubHub.

Don’t plan on driving around on ganeday. Austin traffic is a disaster. Stay downtown and just walk, then Uber to a bbq place and whatever else we can recommend.

I'd wait for tickets if you are not super-particular about where you sit. If we are any good, the best seats will be wicked expensive but that's probably the case today anyway. Plus DKR is huge so for a Kansas game there are always likely to be seats available close to game day.

As for Austin, on game day I'm with the gang here - stay around downtown and the 40 acres on foot. Traffic does not move around there at that time. And definitely check out Scholz's. Even though it'll be packed, it's as much an Austin tradition as anything in town. Then head out of downtown after the game for BBQ or Mexican. If it were me, I'd go to South First for Mexican somewhere, but there are so many great places in Austin now, if you find a place with good reviews online and it catches your fancy, go for it.

Just avoid Sixth Street completely unless you enjoy ridiculous crowds, overpriced drinks, and drunken violence.

Also, it'll probably be hot as fuck so be ready for that.

Planning a river float on Friday on the theory that if it's hot at least the float will be fun, and if it's reasonable the game will be fun.

Penn. So my big footballing memory is throwing toast on the field after the third quarter and watching get hoovered up by a toast zamboni. Which is not without its charms, but not exactly big time.

And thanks to all for the thoughts. Scholz is definitely on the list now unless we somehow find a connection to a legit tailgate.
Not too many FCS stadiums can say they once hosted a pro football team. Only other ones I can think of are Harvard and Yale, each on a temporary basis. The Sons of Chuck Bednarik !

You’ll be openly invited to many tailgates. Not a problem there, but the Texas tailgate scene is a bit difference as it’s spread out without main lots like many schools.

Vandy alum here.

80% isn't out of the question. Feels like people will use any excuse to visit Nashville - even watching the 'Dores get fucking destroyed.
My Vandy alum brother in SA who married into a Longhorn family is absolutely loving this development.

I'm a season ticket holder and travel to many of the games. Hoping to make Alabama, Houston, Baylor, and TCU this season. I've been to LSU before, but I really can't wait to go to some of these SEC away games.

We might try to drive down to Nashville - have friends we've not seen in forever. Hope it's later in the year.
