I was way in the camp of "Smart is going to get paid" this offseason, but I have done a complete 180. There is just too little money, and too many free agents. Wonder if he accepts the qualifying offer and tries to get his money in 2019?
Or they can sign equivalent UFAs for market rates rather than overpaying a guy that won’t be of any use to them for 3-5 years as they rebuild.Sure, but those "better ones" must want to go there, and why would they? Smart is from Dallas area and has a mother with cancer who lives in the area. It might be a more attractive destination for him.
Picking nits, but they will release a new varietal. Vintage is the year the grapes are (primarily at least) picked; they're always new when released.Doubleback Vineyards will release a new vintage next year the Terry Rose, they claim it will have a great finnish
Doubleback is owned by Drew (not Eric) Bledsoe
Only if he signs it with Boston. RFA offers have to be a minimum of three years with two guaranteed. Is there any chance Smart gets an overpay for 1 year?
Nit picking picking nits but "a varietal" with respect to wines means a wine from (or chiefly from) a single grape so a Rosé - as in Terry Rosé - can't be a varietal. It can be made up of different varietals but it can't really be a wine.Picking nits, but they will release a new varietal. Vintage is the year the grapes are (primarily at least) picked; they're always new when released.
That said, it's awesome. I still love Drew.
fixedApologies if that sounded like a grape. The wine tangent was wonderful.
Puma revamped their basketball line and has a number of the top rookies with them.Puma has BB shoes?
I am waiting for the inevitable Teva or LL beans shoe deal.
Rozier comes to Puma after spending last season wearing Nikes. Rozier originally signed a 3-year, $300,000 deal with Adidas when he was drafted. But after he was shown wearing Nikes during pregame warmups at the 2017 Eastern Conference Finals, Adidas terminated his deal. Rozier spent most of the season wearing Kobe Bryant and Kyrie Irving’s signature Nike shoes, most of which he said he stole from Kyrie’s house.
“I was never with them. I was just wearing them,” Rozier told Bleacher Report. “I ain’t fuckin’ with nobody else but Puma. That’s just what it is. I don’t care that I wore Nike, I’m with Puma now.”
Wow! I've been a big Rozier guy since before we drafted him but what kind of colossal moron signs a shoe deal with one brand and wears another in the games? It wasn't like Nike was paying him too as he's (reportedly) never had a deal with them. This article on The Athletic breaks down the deal (subscription required).
Apparently the kind of guy who does what he wants--and I think we all agree he's been feeding off of the Scary Terry energy--and, through doing so, established himself his own brand?Wow! Huh? How isn't it tough to argue when he got fired from his job of wearing sneakers to the tune of $300k.Apparently the kind of guy who does what he wants--and I think we all agree he's been feeding off of the Scary Terry energy--and, through doing so, established himself his own brand?
Risky, I agree. But it's tough to argue with the results, ain't it?
I'm not sure. I just feel like, more and more, it seems like Danny and Brad have put together what appears to be the Island of Misfit Toys and it keeps turning out to be G.I. Joe, so Ima just follow the ride and see where it goes.Huh? How isn't it tough to argue when he got fired from his job of wearing sneakers to the tune of $300k.
I know he's our guy and all but imagine the reaction had JaVale or JR blew a shoe deal in this manner?
Rozier is def the "type" of player both Ainge and Brad love.......I just don't know how breaching his shoe deal has anything to do with the players skillset.I'm not sure. The guy just made one of the most iconic pop culture symbols of our time his. I have no fucking idea what kind of guy he is or what makes him tick. But I'm going to let him drive.Rozier is def the "type" of player both Ainge and Brad love.......I just don't know how breaching his shoe deal has anything to do with the players skillset.
I have an emotional interest in Our Guys(tm) leading happy and healthy lives and kicking ass to their full potential on the court, as they beat opponents, and thereby prove once and for all the superiority of Boston Sports, Boston itself, and of course by extension, me.Huh? Exactly this. Like, my reaction for a couple years to anyone asking me about Brady and politics is that I'm not sure Brady even knows we have a government. And that's not exactly untrue but it's not what I'm looking for out of him.I have an emotional interest in Our Guys(tm) leading happy and healthy lives and kicking ass to their full potential on the court, as they beat opponents, and thereby prove once and for all the superiority of Boston Sports, Boston itself, and of course by extension, me.
I have zero emotional interest in whether they honor the terms of this sneaker deal or that endorsement. Make or cost themselves a small fortune or a large one. At absolute best it's a curiosity. So, imagine the reaction? The reaction has been, and should be, "meh?"
Terry was drafted three years ago. It looks as if Adidas terminated his contract right at its end... after they paid him about $300k to wear Adidas for 2 years and use the notoriety of a completely different brand to get a new shoe deal in the third. He still has a job of wearing sneakers and getting paid. That's the result that is hard to argue.Huh? It doesn't sound like Scary Terry is sad to have been let go early from Adidas."I was never with them. I was just wearing them,” Rozier told Bleacher Report. “I ain’t fuckin’ with nobody else but Puma. That’s just what it is. I don’t care that I wore Nike, I’m with Puma now.”
Rozier signed his Adidas deal Jan 28, 2016 and was terminated during the EC Finals of 2017 for wearing Nike during shootaround while announcing it to the media. He ended up wearing Adidas during the game however. Such a bizarre story. Mo money Mo problems.Terry was drafted three years ago. Does Julian Edelman still have a deal with Puma? Those are two fun New England connects for an athletic company.
It's definitely bizarre, but 3rd guards on rookie contracts generally do not get signed as flagships for a shoe's relaunch. Wearing the Nikes was definitely a stupid decision financially that didn't help him get the Puma deal. However, it's also symptomatic of a personality that was able to give few enough fucks to establish a cult brand and get the Puma deal he did.Rozier signed his Adidas deal Jan 28, 2016 and was terminated during the EC Finals of 2017 for wearing Nike during shootaround while announcing it to the media. I guess I am amazed that adidas was pony up 100k per year to the Celtics 3rd pg, a guy who was probably only supposed to get about 10 mins per game. Does a shoe company really say “they will see THIS guy and then want to buy our shoes”. Keep in mind I am speaking of before the scary terry relaunch. The irony being once he became a possible sneaker “icon” he had already dissed them.
Why does Coke pay to have their logo on machines everywhere? The idea is that your brand is never out of the public eye. Nike gives stuff to DIV 2 and Div 3 teams. Also if the guy becomes a star the shoe company wins the lottery.I guess I am amazed that adidas was pony up 100k per year to the Celtics 3rd pg, a guy who was probably only supposed to get about 10 mins per game. Dont they have to do this to be able to sponsor Duke, Oregon, OSU etc etc.Nike gives stuff to DIV 2 and Div 3 teams.
Well they do for a year or 2. This was a 3 year deal. Assuming it took 1 year or so to become a star. So they have a guy on the cheap for a year or 2. Plus whats to stop Terry from Taking 300k for 3 years, becoming a star and immediately reneging on the deal (as he did) and negotiating a deal with the highest bidder (which he did). Also if the guy becomes a star the shoe company wins the lottery.
No he didn't. He waited over a year to get a new deal.becoming a star and immediately reneging on the deal (as he did) and negotiating a deal with the highest bidder (which he did).
Rozier was a year from being a lottery pick and had already began impressing so Adidas was betting on his upside much like Nike did with Harry Giles before he was even drafted. They were correct however somewhere along the way the relationship took a wrong turn. It's definitely bizarre, but 3rd guards on rookie contracts generally do not get signed as flagships for a shoe's relaunch. Is it irresponsible to wonder whether the relationship between Adidas and Louisville helped Rozier get the shoe deal?Rozier was a year from being a lottery pick and had already began impressing so Adidas was betting on his upside
It's very reasonable as that is why Adidas lined Pitino's pockets to get in with the star player however with that connection wouldn't they have locked up a lottery pick prior to 7 months after he was drafted? Is it irresponsible to wonder whether the relationship between Adidas and Louisville helped Rozier get the shoe deal?
You mean what do you do if you're an organized crime don and someone picks your pocket in public? It's very reasonable as that is why Adidas lined Pitino's pockets to get in with the star player however with that connection wouldn't they have locked up a lottery pick prior to 7 months after he was drafted?
The entire arrangement must have been one heckuva story. Why did Adidas wait? What made Rozier do what he did to cost himself $150k or so without a deal in place?
I was wondering if he got wind of the investigation at Louisville, but I'm not sure if the timelines match up as Rozier was terminated in May of 2017 but the scandal was not made public until September. What made Rozier do what he did to cost himself $150k or so without a deal in place?
Isaiah Thomas?
Is there any other player with whom Ainge has this type of relationship? Danny seems invested in Terry's success, and connected with him personally, to a degree that he isn't with other players, even ones he likes. I have been fully on the "Terry is getting traded or lost in FA" train, but I feel like Danny will get as creative as possible to try to keep him.
For Rozier, he gets paid market value by us rather than on the open market unless he takes a discount which I don't foresee happening.
Is this true, I thought that once Kyrie signs an extension he's not a Rose rule player anymore.Due to The Rose Rule the only way the Celtics can acquire Davis prior to next offseason (after Kyrie signs his extension) would be to include Kyrie.
