Yeah, this is a great match. 5-4 Fernandez, next person who blinks loses.

This is simply outstanding sport. (Human drama of athletic competition) And I wish Chris Evert did more broadcasting.

Funny thing is Chrissy was driving me nuts with the constant, she is tired.

This really is an insanely impressive stretch for Leylah. This was a absolute brutal draw to get through.

Outstanding start for Emma. Fights through the nerves and gets the hold in the first game. Then follows with a break of serve in the second game.

Emma has to do better on her serve through, She is up 3-0, but has already faced 7 break points

Sakkari isn't getting anywhere near enough of her first serves in, and Ratacanu is doing an excellent job of aggressively punishing her second serves.

Not only has she not lost a set the entire tournament (including qualifiers) she hasn’t even had to play a tie breaker.

I hadn't really watched a full match by Emma until now. She's just flat out good. Hyped for the final!

Wow, Raducanu looked so good. Fernandez reminds me a little of Hingis, a smaller player who is so smart, knows all the angles and takes the ball so early, but Raducanu was reminding me of great male players, Federer or Djokovic, she just blew Sakkari off the court.

Osaka has to feel a bit better after this run by Fernandez, Naomi was just a few points from beating her in straight sets without even facing a break point before she imploded.

I am at a total loss as to who to root for in the finals. Leylah had the tougher draw in the main tourney, but Raducanu had to go through qualies! I guess I'll just root for both to play well and for it to go 3...

I guess my wife and I are the only ones who find her unlistenable.

Great tennis though.
I waffle. I think her analysis is terrific, but (like many commentators in many sports) she often talks over points at times where she should really just let the tennis speak for itself. Of course, I understand that she is trying to explain some of the more simple aspects of the game, which I don't need - so I try to think about it from that perspective as well.
I would love it if you had the option to mute commentators, but listen to the sounds of the game/crowd. I almost never mute her though, as opposed to someone like Cris Collinsworth who is pretty much perma-mute for me.

Not sure if ESPN is broadcasting the Finals or ABC. The networks are out of their mind ecstatic to have this Women’s Final. Just great tennis from two storybook competitors! Can’t remember being this excited for a Finals in a long time!!

Chris Evert is OK, I still think Martina Navratilova is the best but I haven't heard much of her in recent years. John McEnroe is by far the worst though, they have got to get him out of there.

The only time I hear Martina is when I occasionally switch over to the Tennis Channel. I'd rank her as ok, and Chris the best. However, I'll play your usual role as contrarian and say that I actually enjoy John McEnroe's commentary. I don't really know why, but I always have.

Medvedev finished off the first set, but Felix just broke him for the first time, up 4-2 in the second.

And he can't finish off the set, failing to convert three set points before being broken, up 5-4 still but back on serve.

Medvedev breaks again and takes the set 7-5 after being down 5-2.

Not sure if anyone else watched, but Coco Gauff and Caty McNally advanced to the women's doubles final. They were in a first set tie breaker when one of their opponents - Luisa Stefani - tried to change direction at the net and went down in a heap when her knee buckled, eventually needing to be brought off the court in a wheelchair. Caty was composed, but Coco was fighting off tears in the quick post-match interview on the court. Not how you want to advance, hopefully they'll get themselves mentally ready for the finals.

Slight aside but “Untold: Breaking Point” on Netflix is really good television. Centers on Mardy Fish but lots of stuff about Roddick as well, and them following up 20 years of American men’s tennis dominance.

Coco also gave a great answer when asked about it on court (much better than Caty's but that is expected since Coco has so much more experience dealing with media). Never like seeing a team advance that way but happy for Coco. After a disappointing singles tourney, she really ended up having a great tourney in doubles. Says a lot about how good of a head she has on her shoulders. I actually think Emma and Leylah doing well will take some pressure off of Coco for 2022.

This was incredible. Watched it yesterday and loved it. Highly recommend it.

No one is surprised that Novak won the second, but pretty much everyone should be surprised how easy it was.

Why? Djokovic has now lost the first set for the fourth match in a row, and the second set scores - all in his favor - were 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, and now 6-2. I know he lost to Zverev in Tokyo, but if he doesn't win this in four sets like he won each of those other three matches in four sets, I'll be pretty shocked.

Because Zverev is much better than those guys. Again, not surprised he won it, surprised how easy it was.
