Every game Tsitsipas has won this set has been a battle, but he is only down 4-3.

That kid getting Novak's racket is the closest we're coming to a changing of the guard today. Happy kid, though. What a match!

58 of the last 64 Slams have now gone to the big 3 plus Murray.

This is kind of crazy, Nadal has not beaten Djokovic on a hardcourt since 2013:

Last 9 meetings on hard: 9-0 Djokovic (19-0 in sets)

Last 9 meetings on clay: 5-4 Nadal (12-12 in sets)

Just read that Novak didn’t face a single break point the final three sets. I was again surprised how consistently he was serving wide, but obviously it worked and he did go down the middle a few times on big points.

The Land of Fist Pumps
Kiki Bertens announced she will retire by the end of the year. The Olympics is the last tournament she has committed to, but may finish the season if her body responds well following Wimbledon and the Olympics. Became the highest ranked Dutch female at # 4 in May 2019.

Men's Draws (projected quarters)

Djokovic - (Rubiev/Sinner)
Tsittsipas - (Bautista-Agut/Shapovalov)
Zverev - Berretini
Medvedev - (Federer / Carreno Busta )

Federer does have a draw that looks like he should get to the quarters. And basically even all the way to the finals is probably the best he could have hoped for; although, while I think he could be a Zverev or Medvedev at Wimbledon, I don't think he could do it back to back matches, especially after playing 4 to get there.

A well rested kyrgios could be sitting there in the 3rd round for Zverev, which is one of the few, could be interesting matches. Kyrgios is also playing mixed doubles with Serena this year.

On the women's side , not that we' won't see a bunch of upsets, but the quarters set up as

Barty - Andreescu (Azerenka could be an option here)
Svitolina - Williams (Williams could face Kerber in 3rd round, and winner of Gauf/Bencic in 4th round)
Kenin - Pliskova
Sabalenka - Swiatek (The always unpredictable and Dangerous Muguruzu could be waiting in 4th round for Swiatek )

There's an interesting over/under bet to be constructed regarding the number of betting favorites who will meet their quarterfinal projections. In other words, how many of the eight players projected by the bookies to reach the quarterfinals will reach the quarterfinals? For the men, you'd probably set the O/U between 4.5 and 5.5; for the women, it's probably more like 2.5 (and I'd bet the under).

(EDIT - upon reflection, 2.5 for the women is probably too reactionary to what we saw at Roland Garros. It's probably more like 3.5...and I'd take the under at that point, but not at 2.5.)

I actually meant to post that there will likely be some early casualties of players who played deep into the French, which only ended two weeks ago. Tsitsipas was the most obvious one on the men's side, and a big test for him whether he could come back so quickly. So far, not promising for him.

Yeah, that could be. I TRY to root for the American men, but they're usually out of the major tournaments by the third round. So, it's kind-of fun for me to root for Tiafoe here.
