Murray and Nishikori are out of the Aussie Open, and Djokavic is unsure if he'll play. Might be an easy path for Fed and Rafa unless a young guy steps up
On the one hand I know what she means, but on the other hand, I wonder if part of that was her edge. Being so defined by victory, where it was the only thing she could control in a turbulent life and that she needed it desperately, has probably been a big factor in her ability to will herself back into matches and dominate them. Her ability to switch from "sloppy and unfocused" and snap into "as focused as Tom Brady and ready to CUT YOU" has always been a calling card of her success and a part of what makes her such fascinating watching. I hope she keeps that."...Maybe this goes without saying, but it needs to be said in a powerful way: I absolutely want more Grand Slams. I’m well aware of the record books, unfortunately. It’s not a secret that I have my sights on 25.” She means 25 Grand Slam victories, which would surpass the record of 24 held by the Australian tennis legend Margaret Court and make her the undisputed greatest of all time. (Serena, already widely regarded as the best there ever was, currently owns 23.) “And actually, I think having a baby might help. When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born. Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me.”
Stanislas Wawrinka gave Olympia a pair of tiny blue Tod’s driving loafers, and Novak Djokovic continues to send articles in accordance with his everything-natural philosophy. Serena and Novak call their babies doubles partners since they were born a day apart. Roger Federer, in some respects her only real rival on the tour—the person she’s always sought to keep pace with, the person she refuses to retire before—now has two sets of twins. “It’s so unfair,” Serena complains. “He produced four babies and barely missed a tournament. I can’t even imagine where I’d be with twins right now. Probably at the bottom of the pool.”
Gotta love the cameras on the middle of the net there. Feels almost voyeurish with those outfits.Halep is on the brink against young American Lauren Davis, four straight breaks for both players at 4-4 in the 3rd and now Davis has held to go up 7-6.
She's not wrong. There's no problem at all with Davis's arms and head. Her hips have kept her hitting with full power. But if you're not watching her awkward, uneven gait as she walks, and reading some leg cramps into that, we're not watching...Martina, you are always right, but you have been saying Davis is running out of gas for maybe 16 games now.
Davis just said that she felt her nail come off right before the first match point and she couldn’t put any weight on that leg until she got taped up in between games. Couldn’t have been worse timing...The match turned in the few points before Davis lost that toenail. Had 0*-40, 3 match points, pissed them away including a very makeable down-the-line, and Halep just put the screws to her after that.
Not sure why you are discounting Svitolina, who is still a slight favorite to come out of that side, I think. Some confirmation here:If Wozniacki doesn't make the final with her remaining draw I mean wow will she ever get there again?
Unseeded Carla Suarez Navarro in the QF, with either 4th Seeded Svitolina in the SF or a qualifier & 2 unseeded players. This couldn't be set up more perfectly for her.
Definitely not discounting Svitolina who is really the only block to the final. One thing against her is she has never been past the QF but that is expected to change this year against a qualifier. Not sure why you are discounting Svitolina, who is still a slight favorite to come out of that side, I think.
