Seagate Barracuda 1 Tb 7200 rpm HD   TODAY ONLY 5/15     $45     or  Same Seagate 1 Tb HD+ Samsung 850 EVO 120 Gb SSD     thru 5/16   $100
Not a big fan of Seagate these days, but the HD/SSD bundle is perfect starter storage for most builds.

Toshiba 3 Tb 7200 rpm HD     $85
One of the fastest cheapest decent 3 Tb drives, however, I recommend waiting for the boxed retail version for a few bucks more, these OEM bare drives have a far worse reviews
which I ascribe to Newegg's packing/shipping policies.

G.Skill 16 Gb (2x8) DDR3 1600 ram     $94
Low profile, slightly slow timings: Cas 10, 10-10-10-30-2 bu you'll never notice IRL .

http://www.staples.com/coupons

No min price listed on the Tablet and PC coupons.  Some stores will accept them, no questions asked; other stores will make up reasons to NOT accept them.  (Best bet is to try to check out using the youngest cashier there who is NOT mngt.  Chat them up, so they dont really notice the value of the coupon.  If they give you a hard time, offer to buy the EPP and then return the EPP within two weeks.)

I picked up an open box 16 gb 3Gen Kindle Fire  yesterday for $25.

Couperin, what do you think of this:

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/desktops/lenovo/h-series/h30-50/

and this:

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/g-series/g50-80/
Full blown Windows machines from Lenovo for under $300.  Good deal, no?

The Celeron G versions are dual core, have approximately the power of a 5 year old laptop with somewhat better graphics, the i3 is also dual core that's a 3 year old laptop, only the i5 box is a decent modern quad desktop, which considering it seems to come standard with 8 Gig ram, a 2 Tb 7200 rpm HD, an optical drive makes it a decent buy, when you include Win 8.1 you'd be hard pressed to build this box for $530...what you're not told is what video out you get: it appears to be HDMI and useless vga. Considering it's Intel 4600 integrated video, virtually any mb today will offer 2 or even 3 of HDMI, DVI and Displayport. Otoh, if you don't want to build and don't expect to run more than one monitor ever...the i5 machine isn't a bad buy. It will also probably be a small struggle to add an SSD to this box, but it probably can be managed if there's at least 1 extra sata port in there.... OK I just checked.. some H30 mb only have 2 satas ports, one has 3...only the H30-50 models have the extra sata port..so with proper splitters we can get an SSD into the i5  $525 model.

You keep going backwards, now we're talking a cpu that's got all the oomph of a 7-8 yr old laptop. This is what comes of people thinking tablets can be used like real computers...yes this thing will run Windows...except open up 2 or 3 programs (with the standard email, messaging and other stuff of course running in the background) and this thing will be as responsive as a roach running thru molasses. Otoh if you're perfectly happy with the sort of performance of boxes i built a decade ago...have at it.

With the difference in price between all these garbage low speed dual core cpus (we won't even get into the 4-6- whatever core AMD stuff) and a decent legit i5 quad amounting to, at most, $100-120 there is, imho, absolutely no reasonable excuse for building any desktop box utilizing such weak cpus. It's the equivalent to equipping the decent compact car of your choice with a Briggs & Stratton 25 hp garden tractor engine.

Is it really too much to ask to be able to run 4 monitors, multiple programs and streaming video and store TBs of my crap for less than $500?

Gimmie about 4 weeks to hit all the bargains exactly right, another 3 months for all the rebates to...finally arrive, and while the OS installed will allow you to obtain all updates, don't expect it to be perfectly 'Genuine' and you can have what you want for $850, maybe $800 on a good day. That's for the sensible build, if you will cheap out on only 4 Gig ram and other silly economies I can probably get it below $750.

I'm projector shopping right now, I saw this but I'm not sure it's a great deal.  The Optoma HD26/141X both seem to be rated higher by most sites, and the latter is pretty much always $580.  I have no firsthand knowledge and am willing to be convinced otherwise.

(Currently trying to decide between the HD141X at $584 and the BenQ W1070 which is $699; the BenQ is pretty strongly the consensus best cheap-ish projector).

I settled on the Optoma HD141X.  The BenQ by all accounts has a somewhat better picture quality, but it's got a significantly louder fan that I decided against.

(The Optoma also has some niche features I found interesting that nobody else would care about: it can be set to auto power-on when plugged in, which is nice for home automation purposes).

It's pointless to post sales on SSDs, something is always on sale.
Getting to be the same with monitors: somebody always has a decent 23.5/24" IPS/VA 1920x1080 on sale for $115-130...just wait for the mix of inputs and other features you desire.

LG27MP33HQ  27" IPS  1920x1080 monitor   $171
27" is probably as big as you ever want to go at this resolution before it really gets too crude.  HDMI only. You do get VESA mount option, but external power supply and lame 1 yr warranty,
which seems to be standard for LG.

On of my Favs: Webroot Internet Security for 5 devices 1 year   $15   also Webroot's more limited AV for 1 device (I've actually used this on multiple devices with no consequences) all of $4. If
you won't spend 4 bucks for some real protection...you really deserve whatever grief may befall your 'puter.

coupon code C15FATHERSDAY takes $15 off $100 on a ton of ebay items, including in the Newegg store.  Following are each $135 after coupon:

Asus ac87 refurb, Asus ac68P refurb (that P is the new 1GHz cpu and is exclusive to BestBuy, tho newegg is able to sell the refurbs; other ac68 U/R/W are only 800Hz), APPLE refurb iPad2/64gb/VZW.

I think that iPad may be a price mistake, as Newegg lists other lesser refurbs for considerably more money.

WD Elements 2 Tb USB 3.0 portable HD     $80
   One year warranty

WD Elements 4 Tb USB 3.0 HD     $115
One year warranty, uses external power wall cube, also note that while full 4 Tb is easily available when you plug into any modern computer, this will probably NOT work plugged into
typical USB 2.0 ports on your TV, cable box, receiver or many media boxes.

Fantom G-Force3 2 Tb USB 3.0 portable HD    $60
Fantom packages the drive in a bulkier aluminum case (with better ventilation), but you have no idea who's hard drive you are getting, best guess is Seagate/Samsung.

Samsung 850 Pro 256 Gb SSD     $133   or 512 Gb   for $228
   Latest, superfast, 10 yr warranty

SUNSHINE takes 21% off at Cowboom today.  Single use, but one poster on SD says it took 21% off all five items in his cart.  (problem there is you risk timing out the cart if you have a really good price on something already in the cart)

Decent prices on some tablets, if you can find them above Satisfactory condition.  Some really cheap tablets, if you're willing to risk Satisfactory or Fair.

This is Canon's cheapest COLOR Laser, but it has wifi, ethernet and usb connectivity also Canon Mobile print lets you print from iOS or Android phones. The usual starter carts means
you should immediately start looking for generics of Canon 131 carts at Amazon. With no rebates or other games, this is the cheapest color laser option I've seen in quite a while.

I dont feel comfortable linking directly, but SD has a 4 day promotion (ends this Sat) that will give you $125 back for each NEW line (new account, or adding additional lines to a current account) you order from TMobile.  Reward/rebate will show up in your PayPal acct in ~75 days.

The thread is getting a lot of attention over there, so the details should be on the first page.

A bunch of us are kicking ourselves, as we just opened TMobile accts in the past week.

The standout:

Lenovo Thinkpad T420 14" laptop    $275

These seem to be Grade B refurbs that Lenovo doesn't want to dump in their own outlet, but you do get a full 1 year warranty from Lenovo, the refurbing seems to be decent and we're talking a good 2.5 Ghz
dual core i5. The good/bad news is the HD has been replaced with an SSD, but only a 128 Gb.

The other problem is Newegg is unclear as to exactly what version of the T420 is being furnished: the one reviewer got a T420S, the pix show a version that includes a fingerprint reader which it seems pretty clear
is NOT being furnished, while a full DVD burner clearly is being supplied.

Corsair PS...The CS450M Gold and Modular  $24 after $30 rebate or  CX500  Bronze   $25 after $20 rebate  (hint: do the 450M, the 50 watts is meaningless).

Toshiba 5 Tb 7200 rpm HD    $145   retail boxed and Amazon matches this price, but reliability on 4 Tb and up drives like this still leaves a great deal to be desired.

Crucial BX100 500 Gb SSD    $180  their latest greeatest and atm Amazon will match this price.

Canon MF227dw Multifunction    $112.50  tons of connectivity options on a low end b&w printer/scanner/copy/fax

Acer Aspire T ACT-605-UR19 desktop   $350.  One of the absolutely cheapest ways into a legit i5 quad core computer. The pros: 3.1 Ghz i5-4440, 4 Gb ram (you have a 2nd memory slot so increasing this is cheap and easy). 500 Gb HD, DVD burner, Gigabit ethernet, a/b/g/n wifi & BT, Intel 4600 graphics with HDMI output. There is a free PCIe x16 slot, the power supply is a standard FSP 300w unit (decent) and there appears to be a 3rd sata port on the mb so with simple splitters adding an ssd would appear to be possible. Windows 8.1 keyboard and mouse. There is simply NO WAY you can possibly build this for the price. Add 4 Gb ram and an ssd and this is a perfectly reasonable mainstream box for minimal cash.

Leaving in a bit to the studio :)
Amazon Warehouse has been adding  iPhones all morning.  Inventory started at 73, up to 119 a few minutes ago.  Havent checked for other brands/OS.

Some horrible prices, some amazing prices (just snagged an iPhone 6+ 128gb Like New for $619 minus another 5% Discover CB).

EDIT: some nice prices on Androids, too.  Just saw a few LG G3 32gb for VZW in Like New in the $225-260 range.

NB:  Search features are messed up (both type-in and filter via checkbox), as these phones are in teh system (and you can put them into your cart) but often not showing up in some searches where the should show up (like the G3 above).  I have no idea how I found a few of these non-iPhones, but they're there.

I don't have any update but it's Wednesday, not Sunday so far as I understand it.  I have a laundry list of things we need to buy so I'm very interested to see how it goes.  Really hoping a particular Samsung tv is on sale but not terribly hopeful.
