They really only need Word - any deals for it around that you've seen?

Search eBay: Office 2003 can be had as a legit CD for $20-30, Office 2007 runs $50 to $100. Keep in mind, up thru Office 2003 you are getting the traditional interface, Office 2007 and beyond, all components including Word have the ribbon interface, if your clients are used to the traditional interface, 2007 and beyond may infuriate/baffle them. At the very least expose them to a recent version of Word and make sure they are comfortable with the interface.... there is a commercial app that does attempt to add classic menus to 2007 and later versions:
http://www.ubit.ch/software/ubitmenu-languages/
it's not an open source project and not all that popular or well known, but they do offer it free for 'non-commerical' use, your clients might try it if they go for a 2007 or later version, most who don't want the ribbon have just stayed with Word in 2003, nothing of great import has been added...you can even get a free add-on from MS to open and read any Word docs you get in the newer .docx format... in fact virtually everyone I know in the legal world routinely use and save all Word documents in the .doc format, I see a docx document maybe 3 times a year, and these days almost everything gets converted to .pdf for filing anyway.
If they are the type that easily go to blindly stumble to being infected, I reiterate: ESET NOD32 (just the AV) will cost about $39 for a year and Webroot SecureAnywhere, the basic version will cost that or less, install BOTH do a basic sensible configure and they will have to be VERY pigheaded to get to drivebye infect sites or add infecting software, they really will stop them and combined, their impact on performance is nil.

Canon imageCLASS D530 Black & White Laser Multifunction Copier $120 - $40 promo code CANON40 = $80 shipped

This is a 'less multifunction' version of my favorite Canon MF series:
It removes the auto doc feed feature from the top and also the fax, which is irrelevant to 99% of us anymore.
What's left is the B&W printer, copier and color scanner in a package with the same paper handling
functions and using the same Canon 128 cart that includes all the consumables (tons of inexpensive compatible
aftermarket versions available).
Really great deal on a basic MF printer. Like all these Canons, it comes with a 'starter' (half filled cart good for around 1,000 pages) so go shopping for aftermarket Canon 128 carts at Amazon, you can find
compatibles for under $12.
As a refresher, the HP 7 Plus comes with a 7” (1024x600) display, quad-core ARM processor, 8GB of internal storage, microSD slot, 802.11n wireless, 25GB of free cloud storage for life, and a runtime of five and a half hours.

250 Gig HD
Nvidia NVS295 video
Gig ethernet

Windows 7 Pro
If these are clean it's actually a real server cpu. Typical 90 day refurb warranty.

FYI, you can get the same machine directly from The Server Store with 8 GB of ECC* RAM for about $50 more, incl. shipping charge.
Newegg listing did not specify ECC RAM, so unclear, but ShellShocker deal is gone anyway. Dell Financial Services, for example, has been known to swap out the ECC RAM when putting up for sale off-lease or refurb workstations (originally built with ECC RAM).

Speaking of which, how often do the Lenovo prices fluctuate on the outlet site? The $361 one is now about forty bucks more.
NortheasternPJ said:Anyone have any suggestions on those Dell monitors for Friday?
I'm thinking 22" or 24". My main use is really work related. I have a Thinkpad W520 now and at home it's usually docked and this would be my secondary monitor. The main need is to have on new monitor Outlook and use it to edit documents side by side.
I'm thinking 16:9 may be a better aspect ratio for this.
The E2314H is $169 right now (not including the 25% off on Friday) and is 16:9, 23". I'm leaning towards this one, but i know jack shit about monitors at this point.
NortheasternPJ said:Thanks for the feedback. One thing I may want to do is go HDMI since then I can run 3 monitors at a time. I have a shitty old Dell monitor that's VGA only.that I may want to keep.
I'm a monitor snob in the case of TV's, where I'm a die hard plasma fan and would never buy an LED/LCD. On the computer monitor side, it's really only going to be used for work so I really don't care.
For $200 premium, what is IPS going to buy me over TN?
OCZ sold out from Newegg.Couperin47 said:Newegg deals til Monday:
OCZ VTX460-25SAT3-240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Flash Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) with promo code
EXLEMC23673 $120 - $20 rebate = $100
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820228106
OCZ collapsed into bankruptcy thanks to their shaky finances and abysmal quality control. Now they are "A Toshiba Group Company" and that makes all the difference. This drive uses Toshiba MLC flash which is faster and more durable than what's used in most cheap SSD's (compare this to the Samsung 840 Pro line, not the EVO), and OCZ's own controller, not the common SandForce. The result is good performance, and durability now backed by a real company, but Toshiba has to repair the extensive damage to the brand name and we get a commercial 240 drive for pennies more than a 128. Great deal.
