I think he's doing great. He’s bringing a lot more energy today. Definitely taking the notes on not being aloof—be excited, act like you care about the game.
It remains to be seen, but I figure that’s probably more natural to him. Like, he’s an honest to God fucking crazy person; let’s see if he lets his freak flag fly.
It’s like a different guy, isn’t it? Was there an “On” setting they forgot to flip before?I think he's doing great.
He was brand new at it and just needed time to learn. This is the first business I was ever in and it's not easy, even though it seems like it kinda ought to be. But as we all kind of expected, he has worked hard to get better and, unsurprisingly, he's really improved. It’s like a different guy, isn’t it? Was there an “On” setting they forgot to flip before?
I think he was nervous the first couple of weeks. It takes a little bit to get settled and find your voice. Brady has found his voice, he's legit. It’s like a different guy, isn’t it? Was there an “On” setting they forgot to flip before?

Oh, word—definitely agree. It’s the rapidity of the transformation that fascinates me. Like, what were the notes like? “Dude… you like football.” “Oh, right! Got it!”I think he was nervous the first couple of weeks. It takes a little bit to get settled and find your voice. Brady has found his voice, he's legit.
It seemed to flip before last week. That's when I noticed the change. It’s like a different guy, isn’t it? Was there an “On” setting they forgot to flip before?
He’s a rookie broadcaster. Lot of room for growth and development. If we know anything about Tim it’s that he’ll work his ass off to improve.I hadn't watched much of Brady's games over the past month, but I tuned in yesterday to Cowboys-Giants out of Thanksgiving habit. He's decidedly mediocre, and IMHO that's not good enough for the color commentator on the #1 broadcast team.
What encapsulated that for me was his two minutes of commentary after the Brandin Cooks TD where he explained the mechanics of the play. It was soooo basic and boring. And he kept leaning on verbal tics like "Like I was saying" and "again" when he hadn't been saying and he wasn't repeating anything.
A good friend of mine is a retired TV sports producer who coached announcers. I could just picture him in his living room at that moment wincing.
Anyway, he's got a few more weeks to get better before the Super Bowl.
Yeah, we all know that. He also was gifted the opportunity to be the color man on the #1 broadcast team. He also had a full year to prepare for this. He's a big boy, he can handle being called mediocre. He’s a rookie broadcaster. Lot of room for growth and development. If we know anything about Tim it’s that he’ll work his ass off to improve.
I’d strongly encourage you to look back at other announcers their first year. Hell, you can start with Don Orsillo calling Hideo Nomo’s no hitter. Then maybe take a stab at Greg Olsen. He’s very good now, but when he started doing it in bye weeks and officially in 2021 he wasn’t great.Yeah, we all know that. That being said, I think he has a ceiling. Even rookie broadcasters usually exhibit some aspects of their commentary that are great. Honestly, there's nothing I hear from Brady that seems "great".
I know how it works. And I know people here love Brady. I do too. But that doesn't change the fact that right now he's mediocre, and in a very high profile way.I’d strongly encourage you to look back at other announcers their first year. Fox has every incentive to get him the resources to improve. I can’t think of anyone with more of a drive to succeed, or wealth of information to share, or sheer coachability that would limit that ceiling.
Romo was fantastic as a rookie. This Tim kid (Rattay?) is far below. He’s a rookie broadcaster. Lot of room for growth and development. If we know anything about Tim it’s that he’ll work his ass off to improve.
No Romo wasn’t. People just thought it was novel and cool. He was awful from the start.Romo was fantastic as a rookie. This Tim kid (Rattay?) is far below.
Agreed. People thought it was cutting edge when he'd say "look for the run off tackle right here", and confirmation bias set in.No Romo wasn’t. People just thought it was novel and cool. He was awful from the start.
So he did he do outside of what other announcers don’t do and vocalized what he learned in the production meetings pre-snap?Romo was far from awful. He was unpolished and not a smooth announcer but he was unafraid to say what he saw develop and at times he seemed prescient. I'm not a Romo fan but any other take as to his rookie color year seems like revisionist history.
It's ok to be wrong, but he articulated what he saw as a QB and what he thought the offense was going to do. And he was right enough to add value to most viewers. He wasnt ' just another guy telling you what you had just seen. IMO he added value his 1st year. And that he was smart enough to incorporate production meeting info into his work is a good thing. So he did he do outside of what other announcers don’t do and vocalized what he learned in the production meetings pre-snap?
He was wrong half the time too.
Early on I enjoyed Romo’s enthusiasm. Seemed like he really enjoyed the game, which seems like a basic trait any commentator would exhibit, and yet we know a lot of them get cynical as the years progress. So he did he do outside of what other announcers don’t do and vocalized what he learned in the production meetings pre-snap?

I don’t disagree that people thought he was amazing us first year and everyone loved him. After 2 games I was done with it and thought he was awful. Now many of the people who loved him don’t. You can argue he’s gotten worse and there’s speculation around that. It's ok to be wrong, but he articulated what he saw as a QB and what he thought the offense was going to do. You posted he was awful from the start and I disagreed. And most of us recall there were a lot of glowing reviews of Romo's performance as a rookie color analyst,I don’t disagree that people thought he was amazing us first year and everyone loved him. He did talk way more about what he learned in pregame meetings around trick plays, formations etc. which was against the code
