Interesting. That is def not my take and I go to about 20 games a year. They guy was an A$$ in Baltimore then comes here and one of the first games I see with my then 13 year old he blows off a popup off 3rd and when the fans get on him a little he waves his hand at us like "I don't care what you think". The Padres are my second favorite team and I hope they win this year but I've never once rooted for "The Loser" . My son and I just sit there quietly when he comes to bat. Last game I went without him he texted me "How's the game going?" I said "They're down 2-1 but at least Machado has struck out twice." LOL!
What evidence do you have that he "was an ass" in Baltimore? He's been widely regarded through baseball as a mentor to young Latin players, and no one less than your 2018 WS MVP Steve Pearce calls Machado "the best person in the game". I wonder how much of your opinion of him is based on actual fact and how much is skewed by clickbait media claiming he "ended Pedroia's career". (He didn't. Pedroia rushed back from a second knee surgery against all medical advice and missed all if five games after "the slide".)

It's partly my belief that he began the end to Pedroia's career and mostly my personal experience of watching him be a, let's say, not so nice a person (stepping on 1B feet, sliding hard with spikes up, etc. etc.)

That's absolutely false, and exactly what I mean by believing "clickbait". Pedroia had his first knee surgery in 2015 and missed nearly half the season. He had another after the 2016 season and rushed back against medical advice. If you remember, his original timeline to return was Memorial Day, yet he started playing full games in spring training and was in the Opening Day lineup. Several sports doctors at the time were quoted that his return was far ahead of schedule, and irresponsibly so.
"The Silde", which was legal per MLB and Pedroia himself, occurred on April 21, and he missed five games. Repeat, five. He then hit .299 with seven homers in 89 games for the rest of the season, which is almost exactly in line with his career norms. It was the third surgery after the 2017 season that he never recovered from. Machado had nothing to do with Pedroia's knee issues. The fact is that Pedroia didn't give himself enough time to heal after his second surgery, and only has himself to blame for the consequences.

Don't forget the bat throw while he was in Baltimore. I have no idea whether he is a good person or bad. I feel very confident in saying that he has made some bad behavioral choices while engaged in playing baseball.

Im not sure if this is 100% accurate either according to this article.

"But with Pedroia's leg planted awkwardly on the bag, Machado's spike to the back of his knee left him with damage that would prove life-altering."
""It's funny, I remember when I got the first MRI after that play, a doctor said, 'Hey man, you could ruin not only your career but the rest of your life with this injury. You tore all the cartilage off on your medial compartment on your femur and your tibia. Your cleat just got stuck, and it's a bad deal."

Yeah, but Steve Pearce said something nice about him, so some egghead doctor's opinion is meaningless.

I have a friend that works for the Padres and is in the clubhouse most games. He says Manny is very good with the Latin players, they all look up to him, but he has a bit of an issue with others so many do not view him in that same light.

He has a bright future ahead of him on the Los Angeles City Council.

That you, Manny?

It’s really not hard to find evidence if you bother to look. Those are just a couple of the top results from googling “machado dirty”.

And why must anyone substitute Steve Pearce’s opinion for their own? If we’re to consider our journeyman outfielder’s opinion, how do we weigh it against NL MVP Christian Yelich’s opinion (“dirty player”, “you can’t respect someone who plays the game like that”, etc.)? He has a track record of dirty play. Beyond that, his particular brand of dirty is at best a violent reckless disregard for the safety of others.

And if you googled further you'd see that Yelich claimed his comments were in the heat of the moment and "if we were on the same team we'd work it out". David Price and Ian Kinsler had a beef until they ended up being teammates TWICE, if you'd like an example to support that.
Pedroia's knee was a ticking time bomb because he was too stubborn to let it fully heal. If Mike Trout had done the same slide into Pedroia, no one would be calling him "dirty".

Sure, I can't imagine Yelich would be quite so upset at Machado if they were teammates and I bet they would work it out... because Machado wouldn't have just stomped on Yelich's first baseman's ankle and tried to slide-tackle his shortstop... The notion that players tend to get along better as teammates than as opponents isn't much of a revelation and you needn't yell. See also:

I said nothing about the Pedroia play, though it was one of Machado's dirty slides in the YouTube clip to which I linked. And you're probably right that if Trout had slid into Pedroia that way, no one would be calling him dirty. But there is a pretty obvious reason why that might be (Trout doesn't have a track record of dirty, dangerous play).

If the Sox are out of it, I root for the Phillies as an ex-Philadelphian. Then I guess the Giants, currently being in SF. After that it's whatever team has had the longest drought up until that team becomes the Yankees, and then it's whatever team has the second longest drought. I reserve the right to make exception for teams with players that I particularly loathe. So right now I'd be happy with a Phillies win, pleased with a Guardians win, and OK with a Padres win (F Machado). The Astros suck and the Yankees are the Yankees, whose loathsome nature defies description and whose mere existence is an insult to all that is good in the world.
