Looks like Martial will be done.  I actually quite rate the player since I heard of him a few hours ago.

Januzaj on loan is needed.  There is a rumor that Dortmund has an option to buy as well...that I wouldn't understand.  Januzaj is clearly talented but needs to mature.  If he does I think he'll be quite the player.

Chicharito to Leverkusen.  LVG never rated him and I think the penalty miss and the other one right in front of goal sealed his fate.

With Chicharito and Januzaj leaving I'd be surprised if Martial was the only attacking player brought in.  Some rumors have Charlie Austin coming as well.  That I wouldn't mind.

Latest rumors for David De Gea is Navas coming the other way.

Final # on Martial looks to be £46m. De Gea for Navas + €40m looks to be inching closer as well. Borini is officially off to Sunderland.

Hearing that Tottenham wants Victor Moses on loan from Chelsea and that possibly Adebayor is heading to ManU. Neither hitting the reputable sites yet.

Crazy time.

Ok so here's what I've pieced together so far:

Chicarito is gone permanently to B Leverkusen

Januzaj is gone on loan to Dortmund. No option to buy.

David De Gea is likely gone to Madrid for a package of cash + Keylor Navas.

United are nearly done with signing Anthony Martial for what will be the largest fee ever for a teenager.

Mark Ogden wrote a few minutes ago that United are still trying to bring in one more signing besides Martial and Navas, thought to be a striker.

A lot of rumors floating around about United activating Griezmann's release clause.

Edit: One "source" seems to be a fake twitter account.  No idea if there are more reliable sources or this is just your classic transfer bs.

Praying that Griezmann rumor is true. Him and Reus are probably the top two on my list if I could have any player in the world who is thought to be "attainable" at this point.

Edit: Spelling on his name.

I've done a 180 on Griezmann. Thought he was a pushover when I first saw him play, but he's been outstanding at Atleti from what I've seen the past 2-2.5 seasons. He might get eaten up playing in physical EPL, or his slippery game could give defender fits. I'd bet on the latter.

Reports now that United submitted the paperwork late and that the de Gea transfer did not go through.

If true, wow did Real ever bungle this window.

Lets see if an exception gets made.  Real tends to have some pull where the Spanish football authorities are concerned.

The rumor is that Real did everything by the book but United were late sending the paperwork to Spain.

If that's true, I imagine Florentino, Mendes, and De Gea are all completely apoplectic.

Wow. If this transfer doesn't go through, some part of you has to think United did this on purpose right?

Whether the move happens or not, I'm fine either way. I said before I would be willing to let De Gea leave on a free at the end of the year if Real kept low balling United and treating them like a farm system.

Only question is if De Gea has to stay at United, will one of the best goalkeepers in the world be willing to not pay the entire year out of spite? Hoping the answer is no.

Given the money United are splashing, I would not be surprised if spite over being used as leverage for Ramos's contract extension had a non-zero value to them in this. Granted, I've never seen a scenario where €20m+ and playing a potential (world-class) malcontent for a season was the value of said spite, but I digress.

I don't believe De Gea's potential spite holds any water, as he'd require club reps to be a part of the Spanish national team picture in '16 - and to assure his salary when he signs his pre-contract in January.

Aside from EPL/La Liga drama, it astounds me that Inter have strengthened so much despite losing Kovačić due to FFP. They've signed Alex Telles to play LB and Adem Ljajić as a pseudo-replacement for Kovačić, both on loan + compulsory buy. They're lining up like this now:

Looks like they and Roma are in great position to challenge Juventus, especially given Juventus's start to the campaign.

I have no idea what happened or whether this goes through in the end.

But if Woodward did do this intentionally to spite Madrid its a ridiculously stupid amateur-hour move.  They'll have De Gea for a year and he'll be pissed off and mopey the entire time, Perez will never sell them another player, and Mendes will probably be super pissed as well.  If you want to make a statement, you refuse to sell the player outright.  You don't make everybody involved jump through a million hoops to get the deal done only to intentionally fuck it up in the end.

Though I agree with your overall point, its well documented that Real Madrid waited until deadline day to open up discussions.  If they offered what United asked for a few weeks or days ago they may have not had this mess to clean up.

Besides, they'll win the appeal.  They do have some pull you know...

LFP quoted in El Pais: "Rules are for everyone...FIFA has no jurisdiction." I believe that's a double slap.

And in the rare piece of transfer news that will delight both Zomp and me, Berbatov is signing for Villa per @ed_aarons. Models and booth girls of Birmingham, prepare to be ravished.

I would think that a deal of that magnitude will go through, mainly because all parties involved seem to want it to happen. MU can't want a malcontent on their team all season. De Gea is leaving Manchester. Whether or not MU gets a tranfer fee for him is up to them. It would seem to behoove United to move him to get something in exchange for him (money and another keeper) instead of nothing.

Real obviously want him, but are somewhat to blame for trying to drag it out until the last possible second. From what I read, United didn't send them a critical document until the last second which is why the deal was not consumated. Obviously there will be a lot of finger pointing and he said-she said in the coming days.

Real Madrid's statement:

After the events of yesterday in relation to the alleged hiring of player David de Gea, Real Madrid wishes to state:

  1. Manchester United did not open a way for negotiation for the federative rights of David de Gea until yesterday morning.

  2. Real Madrid, despite the difficulties of an operation of this kind in the last day of registration, agreed to begin these talks.

  3. When Manchester United agreed to trade yesterday morning, it made it contingent on reaching an agreement with Real Madrid player Keylor Navas to be incorporated to the British club this season, and reports that they it is in contact with representatives of the player.

  4. Real Madrid and Manchester United reach a quick agreement on the transfer of both players. After the drafting of the relevant contractual documents required and in order to proceed with sufficient time to process both the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS) as well as its entry in the LFP on time, Real Madrid forwards Manchester United the contracts at 13:39 Spanish hour.

  5. Manchester United sent its comments on the contracts eight hours later, at 21:43 Spanish time, including minor modifications. Not being relevant, all changes were accepted immediately by Real Madrid, with the intention of registering the player in both TMS and La Liga.

  6. Real Madrid, after the getting the signatures of players De Gea and Keylor Navas, sent the English club said contracts signed at 23:32 Spanish time, we awaited to receive the final documents signed by Manchester United.

  7. Manchester United reached the final agreement with the agents of Keylor Navas at 23:53 Spanish time and is at that time when the contracts are sent to the player for them to be signed.

  8. Manchester United entered the TMS data from the operation of David de Gea, not those of Keylor Navas, at 00:00 Spanish time, simultaneously referring to Real Madrid the signed transfer contracts. Real Madrid receives the full documentation at 00:02 and tries to access the TMS but it was already closed.

  9. At 00:26 Spanish time, the computer system of FIFA TMS makes an invitation to Real Madrid to fill the player data of David de Gea, given that the deadline for registration in England remains open to this day. Real Madrid, in the eventuality of a contentious course of the transfer of the player, decided to refer the contract to La Liga, even knowing that the deadlines had expired.

  10. In short, the Real Madrid has done everything necessary, and at all times, for these two transfers to go through.

After agreeing to the terms of the transfer, 8 hours seems like a long time to have it sitting on your desk.

Pretty clear that Arsenal isn't signing anybody.

Couldn't they just have a whip round at the training ground, sell some used football boots and shin pads and get some kid from Celtic. Two-hundo and a couple of ring pulls would get it done. The kid would never play but something's better than nothing. Just a thought.

Van Dijk to Southampton from Celtic is official.

Celtic is also officially Liverpool's feeder club's feeder club.

I will caveat that with Southampton talent evaluators having a much, much better eye than Liverpool's... while Southampton are offloading £47m worth of Lovren and Lallana on Liverpool, they plucked 3 players who were arguably the best in their position within SPL in Wanyama, Forster, and Van Dijk for £32m total.

The below is apparently from RMC Sport, which is a French media outlet:

Martial is now almost official. France has again been looted our best son. This time by the English, but specifically Manchester United. There have been various reports over how much money will exchange hands. Either, as we have seen the completed TMS documents.
Monaco will receive € 50 million guarantee. This will be paid in the amount of € 30 million up front, followed by four payments of € 5 million each year in July.
The additional unsecured expenses, totaling another € 30 million. These include € 5 million each time Martial is the top scorer in the Premier League, to a maximum of € 15 million. Another € 5 million will be due if Martial wins Golden Boy. The final € 10m will be paid if Martial won the Balon D'or career in Manchester.
It is interesting to note that all the terms are future individual successes. It is telling how great the value to Monaco and Manchester this player that it almost seems likely that these obligations are met.
it is certain that we will see the star of Martial shine for many years, and it will be an interesting journey for another deceased son from the lights of France.

So it looks like the fee is 36 million pounds, rising to 50 million if he comes through as the best player in the world...

Those are reported as Euros, not pounds, and I find it hard to believe any report that refers to Martial as "France's best son".  He hasn't even been capped at the senior level yet!

It seems like a lot of money for a player whose value on TransferMarkt is listed as 8M EUR and who was rumored to be going to Spurs for 23M EUR a couple of months ago.

Correct. The article says 50 million euros, which I said is 36 million pounds.

Its no doubt an insane amount of money for a 19 year old that hasn't played a full season.

Wow.  That was pretty stupid on my part.

It's definitely insane money, but I think we do all suffer from not understanding how much the transfer market has changed.  This is a big overpay to me, but players of any talent seem to start at 20-25m and move upward now.  The days of buying a promising young player are gone, you either have to buy them while they're in the youth setups now or pay a big fee.

From United's perspective, it just seems like the money could have been spent on more of a sure thing.  If De Bruyne and Sterling were in the 50m range, then another player of that caliber needed to be the target.  If you wanted to risk big money on a player from France, Lacazette would have been a much better option (although you can't force them to sell).

I think United have an issue right now thats stemmed from last season a bit.  Some players are a bit hesitant to join the club.  The weather isn't the best, the manager is a tough personality, they don't have the nightlife of London, etc...  With Ferguson there was an aura to play for the best manager to perhaps ever live.  Now they are just another big club (a very big club, for sure).

The players they have brought in this window were not pursued by the two Spanish giants, Bayern, PSG, Chelsea, or City.  If they were, they probably wouldn't be at United.  So the problem with going for someone like De Bruyne, Lacazette (who I don't think was available), Griezmann, etc... is every team that Iisted above would be interested in them.

The club has always bought young and tried to develop them.  Some, like Rooney, Ronaldo, and De Gea work out.  Some like Anderson, Rafael, Fabio do not.

10 years ago the Rooney fee was 26 million pounds.  Add inflation and the desperation of the club and 36 million looks right.  But Rooney was already in the Premier League, its insane giving it to someone from an inferior league.

I'm watching the ESPN Transfer show (which all they've talked about is United) and they keep talking about the add ons, which in my opinion is stupid.  If he wins the Ballon d'Or or becomes the leagues top scorer then they have to pay out...which nobody who follows the club would have an issue with.

I think this is on target.  36m for Martial is too much, inflated by United being a bit desperate and Monaco not being eager to sell, but not by a huge amount in today's market.  Reaching the full value of the add-ons is incredibly unlikely for any player and, as you say, would mean that United had acquired one of the best players in the world.  In terms of building for the future, Depay and Martial is a pretty nice base in attack to dream on.

My biggest question about United is that they seem kind of short at this point in attack and LVG also seems to churn the players unnecessarily.  I can't wrap my mind around the decision to loan out Januzaj (and sell Nani earlier) when the only top level wing options are Depay, Young, and Mata.  And selling Chicharito (and RVP earlier) seems odd when the only real CF options are Rooney and Martial.  There are always youth players but a club like United shouldn't put itself in a position to rely on completely untested players like Wilson and Pereira in huge fixtures just because there are one or two injuries to the first team.

This is hard to believe given how much money they have and how willing they have been to spend that money otherwise.  60m is OK for Di Maria but not for Reus?

City are really the big winners of the transfer market.  I don't think their acquisitions are quite as good as some make them out, but all their biggest rivals for the title fell short in various ways - Arsenal signing no outfield players, Chelsea not addressing what looks like a pretty glaring hole at CB, United not meaningfully upgrading their attack (at least for this year).
