A team that takes 2 of 3 from the '19 Indians should not (NOT) lose a series to the Orioles.
The O’s have the second-worst record in baseball at 39-82 and have already clinched a losing season. Their offense is below league-average, ranking 22nd in baseball in homers (154), 23rd in average (.245) and 25th in OPS (.718) as of Thursday. Their pitching staff has been horrendous, ranking dead-last in ERA (5.91) and 29th in both opponent batting average (.274) and strikeouts (929).

The O’s are clearly tanking and doing a good job of it.

And yet, the Sox did lose their last series to the Os. Asher W----ski v. Andrew Cashner comes to mind as a particularly gruesome affair.

Have been paying attention to the box scores but have tuned out the playoff race.

I can’t believe we are 17.5 games back. If the Yankees win more than 108 I’m gonna be super fucking annoyed.

Will be at the game tonight with the family at the specific request of my college-bound daughter. We leave on Sunday morning for her freshman year at JMU. Saturday is reserved for goodbyes with friends, but tonight, she wanted the Red Sox. I love that kid.

A win tonight would be real nice. Porcello mowing pricks down would be even better, but probably too much to ask for.

Enjoy every last minute.

Tonight is the first Red Sox game since we dropped DDB Jr. off at college. I would estimate he and I have watched maybe 1,000 or more Red Sox games together. Stiff upper lip and all, but I'm not coping well.

But at least I have all you fuckers.

What happens if Chris Davis is DFA'd? No team is going to pick him up, so does he end up playing out his contract at Triple A like Castillo is doing?

I find it to be an interesting situation. There can't be more than a handful of players that have ever struggled as badly as he has the last 2 years. It must be humiliating for him to play, but he has 3 more years and it's only going to get worse. The Orioles are going to suck anyway so is it their strategy to keep sending him out there until he can't stand it any longer and retires?

I just don't know how you retire and walk away from $17 million a year no matter how embarrassing or difficult. Hope you get cut or injured I guess.

I wanted to check this, because it's how it felt: Chris Davis is hitting .270 against the Sox this season, OPS .774.

He's hitting slightly better against the White Sox and the Nationals (SSS). However, he has 41plate appearances against us, the most versus any team he's faced. Against the MFY's, he's 2 for 38 with three walks. That's .053 and .198 for an OPS.

Especially weird given that all our starters are lefties. He must be hitting Porcello and the bullpen against us.

On this day 18 years ago Jimy Williams was fired. At the time, the Red Sox were just 2 games out of first place. They finished 13 1/2 games back.

Today Boston is 17 games back clearly demonstrating that Williams >>>Cora. I will be happy to change my mind if Boston can climb to better than 13 1/2 back by season’s end. Winning tonight would be a good start.

Sox have about ten losses to play with, nearabouts. Spend them wisely; can’t drop any games in this series if they’re going to come within shouting distance of making it interesting next month. It’s not quite 28-3, to put it in Patriots terms, but it’s getting there, to put it in Dylan ones.

The Kerrigan Era was nasty, brutish, and short. Valentine aside, he may be my least favorite Red Sox manager.
