They are basically all in, I can't see anyway they will be able to follow up with multiple SB wins.

And the way he panicked in the NFCCG and burned his time outs with shitty challenges tells me he won't be the next big anything.

The 49ers crapped themselves in that game blowing a 17-7 lead vs him being a genius coach who won the game for the Rams with his decision making.
McVay is 81-55 in 5 years, has made the playoffs 4 times, and has won 6 playoff games.(6-3 overall) He is 36 years old.

McVay is an exceptional coach.

There are also a bunch of McVay disciples (Zac Taylor being one of them) in head coaching gigs already. We will never hear the end of the Boy Genius if the Rams win.

I'm inclined to agree. Turning Goff from potentially an all-time bust into a serviceable NFL QB is impressive enough. And he's already got a pretty successful coaching tree between LaFluer, Taylor and Staley.

What I am waiting is for him to leave the Rams in total shambles when his contract is up in two years and becoming the biggest coaching free agent in history.

I'll stick with the guy we've got, but thanks for chiming in.
What does that have to do with anything? When did Belichick come up? And our guy won the SB in 2015 and 2017 because the other teams crapped their pants, Atlanta in what is the most historic collapse in Super Bowl history.

Does that mean their wins are lessened? I would say no. But for some reason, SF not closing it out against the Rams is a mark against McVay. It doesn't show a lot of logical consistency.

Seen on NBC pregame: Bengals borrowing a catch-phrase from us: Reverse the Curse. Didn't realize they were calling their history a curse.
It is based on the footage I've seen.

Ohio has quite a recent rich sports tradition; Cavaliers won a title in 2016 and the Reds won the World Series back in 1990.

The Bengals, Browns, Guardians and Blue Jackets round out the field with a gigantic goose egg, I think the Guardians/Indians won a WS title back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

The Browns won two Super Bowls after they left Cleveland; do those count?

in the 2015 Super Bowl, the Seahawks ran a play the Patriots had practiced against in the lead up to the game, Butler got burned on the play in practice, but he recognized the play, jumped the route and the Patriots won the game.

On the drive prior to the game tying touchdown in the 2017 Super Bowl, the Falcons despite shitting themselves up to that point had the ball in field goal range until the Patriots made three huge defensive plays to take them out of field goal range.

The Rams didn't crap their pants in the 2019 Super Bowl vs the Patriots; they got outcoached by the greatest coach in NFL history, Goff was broken in that game and he's never been the same.

Take a breath, you'll be fine.

A good game without the refs being noticeable would be fine

McVay in 5 years, 4 with Goff, he's made the playoffs 4 times and been to the Super Bowl twice. He's also won 6 playoff games.

It seems your argument is that he's not a good coach. If he's not good, who is, besides Bill? It also seems like you're being dismissive because you don't have anything cogent to add. So I do understand why you're telling me to take a breath. Because you've got nothing.

You think he's "exceptional."

I think he's "good."

So we disagree.

I'll put it this way: If the Patriots wind up with a coach as "good" as McVay after Belichick leaves, they'll be in "exceptional" shape

Brain: Rams 24-14 with Stafford or Donald for MVP

Emotions, superstitions and gut feeling: Bengals 17-14 with Burrow MVP

Either way, I hope the Bengals have staying power. They're easy to root for as far as non-Patriot teams go.

Phenomenal overall record. 6 playoff wins. 2 SB appearances. Most with Goff. 5 years.

"Good".

Man.
McVay's decision to give the ball to a guy in the 4th quarter in the Tampa playoff game when you're trying to ice a game who already fumbled once so he could then fumble again was idiotic when you had another running back on your roster who never fumbles.

That "atta boy, I still believe in you" decision should have cost them the game.

As another poster brilliantly put it, that was "John McNamara letting Buckner stay on the field in game 6 of the 1986 WS so he could celebrate vs putting Stapleton in there" level fucking idiotic.

And again, his challenges in the NFCCG were moronic.

IMO, what separates "good" coaches from "exceptional" coaches are how they perform when the light shines the brightest/in the biggest moments, not in week 6 vs Carolina.

He's a good coach.

With an exceptional roster.

Ok; playtime is over, I'm out to attend a Super Bowl shindig, but feel free to keep ranting about how exceptional he is.

This is like the least offensive SB matchup I can think of from a Pats fan’s perspective and yet this thread has somehow found a way to be preemptively annoyed with either team winning. Pats fans can be something at times.

In almost half of the Super Bowls in the last 22 years, Pats fans weren’t annoyed with one of the teams winning.

McVay tricked the entire NFL - except for Belichick - into thinking that JARED GOFF was a serviceable NFL quarterback. I know he came off as a bozo in the excerpted, possibly out-of-context fawning over Belichick in the pregame, but I think McVay is a goddamned wizard. Again, he made JARED GOFF look like a top ten, top fifteen QB. That's goddamn alchemy as far as I'm concerned.

Don't really have a great rooting interest in this game. About as close as I get is not really wanting the city of LA to get a Superbowl championship. But as that cork was already popped a long time ago with the Raiders it's not a burning desire.

Doesn’t a curse by definition come from a specific event in the past? What is it for Cincinnati? The curse of Loni Anderson? Or Boomer - did he kick over a gas lamp or something?

No, you see, he had a bad challenge in a game he won, so he's merely a decent coach who only gets lucky because the teams he plays against crap their pants.

That's just analysis.

My son is at the game and reports seeing many more fans in Bengals gear for the couple of days he's been in town. He also splurged on a $7 Pepsi because it's so hot at the stadium, poor kid.

Should be what you say but I think they're using it to mean they've never won anything.

Oh shit, just showed a picture of Burrow as a kid with a Red Sox jersey on. Do I need to change allegiance for this game? No, it was just a little league shirt and could have been Phillies or Cubs, whatever.

I just can't route for any LA team for some reason. I think the only things I like about that city are the Big Lebowski and the Red Hot Chili Peppers

It's funny they aren't airing this game in 4K. Two years ago, the Super Bowl was in 4K. And the Rams/TB playoff game was in 4K.

No big deal, but it's just funny that they are going backwards.
