The Kabengele two-way, along with the fact that Ryan let himself be shut down for the last couple of games, makes me wonder if he has already secured a roster spot.
Ryan hurt his ankle so being shut down may have been injury-related rather than roster-related. I also found it interesting that Brodric Thomas didn't play at all the last game.

Yes Ryan can shoot but he looked to me really really bad on defense. Like worse than Duncan Robinson bad. His feet are so heavy I have doubts he will be able to play in the NBA. I suppose he'll be a training camp invite and the Cs will try to figure out whom among him, Cabin Jelly, Thomas, and maybe Justin Jackson if he doesn't have any other options will get a two-way or roster spot or just let go.

I agree that it may have been injury-related, but it’s not like he was on crutches during his Game 4 interview or wearing a boot. I’d think a guy who was working at a graveyard and delivering Grubhub a year ago would want to be on the floor unless he has an opportunity secured.

No question, Ryan’s ability to hold up on the defensive end is the big question, and he looks limited. But he doesn’t appear weak like Robinson, and he’s certainly not small like the point guards we’ve previously hidden. He’s basically in the same spot as Hauser (and maybe to some extent Pritchard).

“Unfortunately, Ryan hurt his ankle on that play and that was it for the summer. The silver lining? Ryan was reportedly well enough to play again later in Vegas, but Boston chose to hold him out. That’s usually a good sign of things to come contractually.”

Aaron Nesmith followed up his 5-for-18 performance with a 1-for-9 showing today in the Pacers' final game in Vegas.

If his shot doesn't come around soon, he won't be long for the NBA.

Yup. We’re well on our way to Bustville with Nesmith. Some guys come in the league and coast and are gone quickly. Other guys come in and injuries impact their trajectory. And then you have guys like Nesmith who bust their ass, do all the right things, but it just doesn’t click. This year is, quite simply, huge for him.

You could certainly imagine a scenario where Nesmith goes to play overseas or the G-league, or some sort of environment where he has less pressure and it all clicks for him.

So Nesmith had a truncated season of 14 games in college shooting the three ball well, and in all the rest of his career he hasn’t been able to make 1/3 of his three pointers. That would be the easiest explanation, how that one season was a fluke, but his teammates on the Celtics claim that he would regularly shoot the lights out from three in practice. Maybe it comes down to Nesmith being a head case. Worst case scenario is him making $10 million from the NBA because of that good shooting his sophomore year in college. He might need the Gerald Green path of traveling around the world trying to find the range from deep

Nesmith shot 6-27 in his last two summer league games and fell down trying to bring the ball upcourt against token defense. I’m guessing his issue isn’t pressure.

Pritchard flew past Aaron as the 3pt bench sniper this past season.
Felt like Hauser passed Nesmith as 3pt shooting prospect from the deep bench (which we noted before the Brogdon trade) at the beginning of this Summer

Brad gets an "A" for not including Grant/PP and moving off higher draft picks Romeo/Nesmith to secure key rotation players (Brogdon/White).

practice is way different than in game too. There are random dudes who can put on shooting clinics that would never sniff the NBA.

Imagine trying to decide what "replacement level" is for the summer league.
Sounds like where statisticians go when they sinned too much.

Yeah this bears repeating. Everyone shoots better alone in the gym, but I think that we've all known people who were lights out alone and relatively ineffective in game. I used to play with a guy in Charlestown in the late 80s, when 3s were kind of a novelty still, and the guy didn't miss. Bang 20 in a row without blinking. Soon as he had a contest, every shot from everywhere was a brick.

Hollinger started writing about the players in summer league today and had this to say about JD Davison;
"Davison proved readier than expected for the step up in competition. Some of this might be outlier shooting — he made 7 of 15 from 3 and 12 of 14 from the line, shocking anyone who saw him at Alabama — but he also dished out 41 assists in five games and left an impact across the box score."

He also suggested that the Celtics put him on the roster for the tax savings.

the Trevion Williams era in Boston is over
This was foreseeable. I liked the guy about as much as anyone -- the passing was incredible -- but he did himself no favors showing up for summer league out of shape and the defense looked even worse than advertised.

I liked the idea when he was added, BUT seeing him up close was an eye opener. The passing was fun but Summer Leaguers made him look defenseless. He needs to get overseas since the G-leaguers will also relentlessly torch him

I'm glad Brad didn't waste any camp/preseason minutes on him

He seems like one of those guys that folks might say in 2-3 years "how did we let that guy go", when the pretty obvious answer to that question then will be "he wasn't that guy 2-3 years ago".

He's also on an Exhibit 10 contract, which means that he's under contract only through training camp. Once the regular season starts, teams control 15 roster spots and 2 two-way contracts. Each team can offer up to four players who were waived during training camp an affiliate contract that can have a signing bonus of up to $50,000--but those players are still free agents. (Kornet was an affiliate player for the Maine Celtics last season , but then got signed in December to 10-day contract with the Bulls and then a 10-day contract with the Bucks.) In other words, if TW does not impress the Warriors enough to use one of their 17 roster spots, the Celtics (and anyone else) can still poach him.

I didn’t really notice Wiseman much for the entire game, but I did notice that he looked clueless on defense. The Warriors had trouble boxing out Kab for much of this game, including in crunch time, when Wiseman was on the court. I can always count on TIMI to come up with a quick highlight package. If you happen to miss a Celtics game and you wanna see how a certain player did go to his YouTube channel . It looks to me that Kab scored half of his points on Wiseman and got a bunch of rebounds and assists.

I wanted to give TIMI a shout-out. He's undergoing treatment for testicular cancer but is still putting his videos out. His Patreon page (link is on his YouTube channel) has extra videos for something like $2 per month.
