After seeing his passing, I had to watch the whole thing. At first, I thought he was just making the same kind of pass, all the time, and it would get easy to predict ... then I got to the 2 minute mark, and damn. He's a magician. He just stands there, like he's got 360 degree vision, then rifles off a bullet to someone -- on the other side of the court, cutting through, at the top of the key, directly behind him, wherever. I think I'm going to enjoy watching him play, though boy, when he gets beat on defense, it's ugly.

Yeah...*some* of those defensive issues (swatting at ball, PNR defense) can be fixed though.

Incredible passer. Some of those are Jokicesque. But man that footwork is baaaaaad.

Oooooof, you weren't kidding. That is one of the roughest 4 minutes of big D I've seen in awhile.
me in the first half of the video: Holy smokes this guy with the whipped skip passes is Jokic 2.0!

second half: Me, a 33 year old coming off an acl surgery, could definitely blow by this dude.

Yeah, well below is the full scouting report from Coach Spins. It appears that while Williams can score on the chair, the chair might be able to score on him.

The first four minutes of clips of his passing is gorgeous. The last four minutes of his defense are, well, not.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdby3kRv__s
I went from “I love this guy” to “I hate this guy” halfway through this reel.

However, a lot of his defensive ills come from him not being in any kind of acceptable defensive stance and not moving his feet at all which is probably difficult to do when you’re standing up like a statue against quicker smaller players.

But he’s an intriguing offensive big, who would have thrived in pro basketball 20-30 years ago. I could see how he makes the Celtics as a 2 way player, just on his passing ability alone. It would be a tremendous pay off if he could actually learn how to play some acceptable defense. You don’t see that many players at that size do the kind of things offensively that I just saw him do on his highlight reel.

At a minimum, it will be fun seeing him dish the basketball to a cutting JD Davison in summer league.

This is going to be a fun team to watch, with a couple of super athletic players like Davison and Begarin, sharp shooters like Houser and Ryan, and the passing wizardry of Williams. I’m looking forward to seeing AJ Reeves against this kind of competition. He might be one of those guys that really does well against one on one defense, as opposed to having to deal with a zone almost all the time in college

I really hope they find a place for Hauser. I think he's got a very legit three-point shot that will be a weapon in the NBA, and hopefully, the other parts of his game are salvageable. Don't want to let this three-point shooter get away.

I watched a lot of his play for Maine, , and he really can light it up from the perimeter. He also has a quick trigger. I think the Celtics are committed to developing him, and maybe he can replace Gallo’s role in a year or two. As the Celtics continue to add decent size salaries for depth, it’s gonna be important to have low salaried options like Houser who can actually play a few minutes.

Jericole Hellems went to Chaminade in St. Louis and was the school's third leading scorer of all time. Shot 39% from 3P last year.

This is some of my favorite stuff I've seen in a highlight reel, followed very quickly by some gasping and head-shaking.

That passing is insane. So much freaking fun. That dude must have the largest hands every to do what he's doing. What's amazing isn't just the vision (it seems far right tail) but the ability to put the pass right where he wants it and enable the shooter to take advantage of space and get shots up quickly... damn.

If you could get someone to fix the footwork, work on some lateral quickness and tighten up some of the post moves, I would quickly fall in love with this guy.

This has to be the worst Celtics summer roster in a while. I guess the good news is that Davison and Begarin should get plenty of run, and Hauser will have a chance to be a primary scorer for a few games.

I'm down for them sucking, since the guys I actually want to see will get a metric fuckton of usage.

He can't block shots, is immobile & can't shoot. He's a non-prospect.

He's basically Enes if instead of scoring Enes periodically passed the ball.

Can't say I expected other people to use the Enes comp.

Probably pretty typical for any team that's traded away its last 2 1st round picks.

It's cool, we are just going to become one of those teams that is constantly adding players with no pedigree that become contributors.

Summer League rules. The Celtics team is meh this year, but they've been a blast to watch in the past. It's a great gimmick and I'm not surprised it has gotten as big as it has. It's a unique event to come right on the heels of the draft, where everyone has spent time getting interested in these rookies, and now you get to see them play in a semi-competitive environment at a level higher than the college game. What other league can you kind of see that? In MLB they do go straight to the minors, but that is such a lower level than in MLB and it will be years before you see any of them in the majors. I'm ready to see Chet, Jabari, Paolo, Ivey, etc. right now. It's at the perfect time of the sports calendar too.

Yup. And it’s still a pretty good barometer for assessing someone. Success in the summer league doesn’t guarantee success in the league but looking like crap is a pretty bad sign. When Tatum joined, you knew right away we had something. On the flip side, I remember going to UMass-Lowell and seeing Joe Forte suck out loud and literally have tears in his eyes after the game when approached by Bill Guthridge. That stuck out to me as an “uh oh” moment.

I thinking looking bad in Summer League is overrated to. These guys are coming in cold as ice, playing with bad teammates who they have no chemistry with. I remember Trae Young sucking it up a few years ago and that led to some takes that didn't age particularly well.

The thing about that '01 draft that always kills me is that they had promises to two guys at #21 figuring that only one of them would be available. They were both sitting there and Wallace chose Forte anyway. (The other one was Hibachi.) A mistake compounded when he insisted on dealing Johnson rather than Brown for bench help later that season. Pierce/Johnson/Hibachi would have made it a lot easier for Ainge to build a title winner once he arrived. (Johnson/Jefferson would have made it possible for him to land Garnett a lot sooner.)

My best read ever coming out of SL was Jeremy Lin when he was a nobody after graduating from Harvard. He was simply the best and smartest all-around player on the floor much of the time. He “looked” like an NBA player right away.

This is a guard/wing league of guys who can get to their spot with the dribble. Someone like Hauser figures to look pretty blah bc he relies on ball movement and others looking for him while they are going to be out looking for theirs. Begarin will be the most interesting to me bc we’ve seen a baseline from him last summer.

Side note, many of the teams are checking into Wynn/Encore today. I’ve seen a bunch of 6-8 guys I don’t recognize.

In the "it's beyond too early" category....

I still like Paolo and Mathurin as the 2 best rookies in this class.

Strong start from Chet, he is definitely tall and skilled. I still have my doubts about how he can put on weight and be an All Star level player, but time will tell. Huge error bars on his future outcome at this point I think.

Not sure why Ivey was some huge prize/automatic top 5 guy.

Steroids work for resetting homeostasis higher for young guys; I wonder whether we'll see Chet at some point be able to juice and get to "really skinny" rather than "freakishly disgusting". The former is probably enough for him to be pretty good.

You watch Vegas Summer League and boy there is a lot of Eurotrash that better keep their passports updated.

The one team that has a bunch of somewhat interesting end-of-the-roster youngsters is the NY Knicks. I've always pined for Quickley (pre-draft binky) but also like Quentin Grimes, Miles McBride + their 2-way guys Feron Hunt/Jericho Sims. None of this is really backed by long-dated sample size analytics, more of an eye test over the last year.

Jericho Sims is a bouncy BIG that would be a nice addition on a 2-way contract if the Knicks run into a roster #s problem. Regardless, Brad should use one of the 2-ways to get a little deeper at the BIG (AL/TL regular-season injury insurance). SL is a decent place to search for that (Trevion Williams is probably in contention for that 2-way spot). I suspect Mfiondu Kabengele is in contention for a 14/15 spot

I thought Ivey looked really good; super explosive, great in transition, made a couple jumpers.

Paolo had some nice passes and showed some pretty good playmaking for his first SL game.

I only saw 1 quarter of the Pistons game and admittedly my opinion has nothing to do with summer league.

In college seemed like a great athlete that didn't really know how to play basketball to me, but time will tell. I prefer Mathurin.

Just turned on Summer League for the 1st time this Summer at the end of the 1st quarter of the Magic/Kings game.

It's hard to watch. Have listened to everyone saying how amazing Banchero is & how great it is that he knows he had 4 turnovers in the 1st Q - if you turn the ball over 4 times in 9 minutes I would sincerely hope you noticed that.

Lmk when it starts - there's only so much of "Banchero is great because he tries to take bad shots every possession & Murray is great because he's not trying to score" I can take.

Of course I've been cleaning my room while watching & somehow lost the remote but hopefully it will turn up in time lol

We're under way. The C's are 0 for 2 from the floor, both airballs.
