Unless Man U win the league expect lots of backlash on Pogba.
89M for 6 goals and 7 assists or something like it is gonna be a big talking point.

Stones to City is finally complete.
Not sure I understand the move for Stonesy. Sure he's getting more wages, but he better be ready to compete with Mangala and to a lesser extent, Kompany, for PT. Or do I have it backwards, and Mangala's agent should start looking for greener pastures.

Perhaps more than any other quality, Guardiola wants CBs comfortable on the ball. Stones has his warts as a defender, but he is certainly a very good passer. Mangala is big and fast but is pretty terrible on the ball and probably has very little future with Guardiola

Mangala wasn't named to City's squad for the Champions League match next week, so I think he's done at City (same with Bony and Nasri)

Stones and Otamendi are both better on the ball than Kompany and Mangala, and this is what Pep wants, I just wonder if they'll be stout enough together in the EPL. I guess Pep will have Kompany there, but Stones and Otamendi is certainly not Huth/Morgan.

Mangala is almost certainly done at City. Can't play with the ball at his feet and just isn't going to work in this system. He'd be a great addition for a team that wants to defend deep and clear crosses but he was left behind for the Arsenal friendly and not named in the CL squad.

Stones is seemingly tailor made for what Pep wants to do. Otamendi was very good last season in my opinion but he accomplishes it in a very unconventional way. Goes to ground a ton and makes a bunch of rash challenges. When it doesn't come off it looks really bad. Pep has also played Kolarov and Fernando at CB (Kolarov in every pre season match) and I have no idea if he really thinks those players can do a job there or they were just covering for injury.

I suspect that the pairing will be Stones and Otamendi by at least the third week. 1st match may come too soon for Stones and Otamendi (who didn't travel to sweden injured). They keep saying they're going to wait until Kompany is completely healthy. He's been spotted doing some jogging but no football drills. I hope they keep him out until Christmas to be honest.

Rumors that Everton will pay £30m for Bolasie. Wtf?
I was just going to come in here to post this. Everton netted about 40m on the Stones deal (minus fees paid to Barnsley). Then they spend all of it in about 2 hours on Ashley Williams (sure, whatever) and Bolasie (uhhhhhh). WTF indeed.

I just posted in the Palace echo chamber about Palace (rightly) rejecting an offer of £18mm for Bolasie.

Yannick Bolasie is my favorite player on my favorite team. I would be thrilled if they sold him for £30m.

Edit: even more happy when I consider he'll basically miss all of January at the ACON.

His agent is Jorge Mendes, so the rumors of moving to Valencia have some logic behind them. The fun of Mendes is seeing where he has his players end up.

Reminds me of Carroll. Never wanted to sell him but Liverpool was flush with cash made a silly offer and everyone went no no.... wait how much?? OK cool sure.

Wolfsburg is close to signing Mario Gomez from Fiorentina for about 7mil.€.

Another report saying Barca will sell one of Bravo(33)/Ter Stegen(24) to City. Bravo has a release clause for 40mil.€, but Barca would be okay to let him go for 20mil.€. Pep wants to buy him and Barca would have Ter Stegen as their No.1 keeper and buy Diego Alves from Valencia as a No.2 (or so it seems).

Adrien Silva is weighing an offer from Leicester. The fee would be 30 million Euros to Sporting. Sporting has already announced they will not prevent him from leaving. So it's up to Adrien whether he wants to leave the club he's been with for 15 years and is the team's captain. Based on the tweets he sent out last night, it sounds like he will be moving to England.

Leicester has also made another bid for Slimani for 30 million Euros that is expected to be accepted.

Summer window closes today. Chelsea have made a 35 mil GBP bid on David Luiz. PSG is open to it since he is 29, doesn't have a Euro passport, and lost his spot to Marquinhos. Luiz is reportedly already on his way to London.

Nasri on loan to Sevilla.

Balotelli to Nice.

Jack Wilshere seems to lining up a loan to Bournemouth today. Tough break for our boy Emerson Hyndman, but that's life in the top flight. Now if Wilshere were to get injured, there may be an opening...

Alvaro Arbeloa signing with West Ham on a free from Real Madrid, not announced yet, but he just had his physical so that seems done.

Hyndman isn't injured as frequently as ol' Jack, but so far in his career he's had an unfortunate talent for picking those injuries up at precisely the wrong times to stop potential club breakthroughs.

I really hope he fights through it, I'd so much rather be watching Bournemouth also than only Sunderland for the "my team's already played, how're the young Americans doing?" games.

Juan Cuardado returns to Juve on a three year loan. Conte reportedly wanted him to stay, but he is better off with Juve.

Mangala on a one year loan to Valencia.

Bruno Martins Indi moving from FC Porto to Stoke. He was highly rated when he arrived from Feyenoord, but he stunk for Porto.

Chances of Brahimi to Everton are dwindling.

Markovic reportedly to Sporting on loan.

West Ham might finally dump Enner Valencia. Reportedly going to be loaned to Everton for a £1.5m fee and a future purchase (hopefully required) of £14.5.

Also American Matt Miazga supposedly will be loaned to Espanyol for the season.

All I've heard for the last few days is that Chelsea need a strong, solid defender...

...David Luiz back to Chelsea from PSG for £32M

Haha!

I wouldn't touch him, VT. I'm fully aware of the issues at the back for LFC but Chelsea have similar problems and their apparent solution is to re-sign a player that has minimal defensive capabilities and struggled mightily the last time round.

What's he done in Paris since to change that view, playing in a team that had limited need to defend in a very uncompetitive league?

It's the style of defender they've bought that is my criticism not the player himself.

Unless of course, he's been bought to play in a different position entirely...

My biggest problem with David Luiz is his cost, but CFC spends money pretty liberally so that isn't an issue. He was never worth what PSG paid Chelsea, or what he earned for pay, but big clubs don't need to hit bullseye on every signing.

I've seen him play two other positions and he either looked mediocre (defensive mid) or terrible (left back). But he's almost always been paired with another CB who can act as his brains (Luisao, John Terry, Thiago Silva) and allow the team to get his very clear strengths: Aerial defense, strength, quickness, and a CB who can handle the ball at his feet. His ability to score headers or take free kicks is a nice perk. When he stinks, he really sucks, but he was huge for CFC during their CL run.

He's a guy who always earns plenty of blame for when the defense falls apart, but is overlooked when his teams grind out a win. I still view him as a guy who can be a difference maker.

Could Luiz be better in a back 3 than back 4? He would know he'd have to stay back more, and he's generally good with the ball at his feet.
That´s the same question his mother asked his dad, when little David was 14:
He will know his hair would look like shit:banana:. But when will he cut it?

So there is a real chance that Everton spend £77M combined on Sissoko, Bolasie and Valencia. That's tragic.

You think so? I think they're kind of light in those areas and they'll be better with them. Koeman can manage I think those are pretty good moves. I think Everton's current core had sort of peaked and could use the infusion

I think that if you have that kind of money and come out of it with 2 guys who have been huge failures since moving to the Premier League and one wildly inconsistent guy who evens out to mediocre you have to be disappointed. I mean, I mean West Ham got 2 better wingers for a combined 20M. Boufal at Southampton, Townsend to CP, Pereyra to Watford, Chadli at West Brom, I'd probably rather have Jordan Ibe at his price than these guys at theirs.

It just seems like they had to pay a massive premium for mediocre players. I get that not being in Europe and having to go to Liverpool are negatives, but still.

-While I was typing this Slimani to Leicester, nice move for them.

Apparently PL teams don't agree with me about Sissoko (though he agrees about Liverpool) as Tottenham swoops in for him.

Everything around Sissoko's move has been ugly. He's a fun player to watch and root for when on form but he's one of the least professional players when it comes to transfer stuff. In French press more than coffee. He was at Newcastle for 3.5 years and for the last 2.5 has talked to the press about leaving. Newcastle obviously sucked during that time, but he's blabbed about leaving more than everyone else combined.

California. Duh.
People are acting like this is the first time Spurs swooped at the last second for a player linked to a team from Liverpool.

Sissoko apparently turned off his phone so Everton couldn't reach him.

http://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2016/8/31/12737386/tottenham-hotspur-transfer-news-rumors-moussa-sissoko-everton-gazumped

Not only did Sissoko flatly turn down Everton by walking away from the club jet, he did one better and ACTUALLY TURNED OFF HIS PHONE.

Holy moly. Set aside for a second whether you think this is a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur or not, or whether you think he’s worth the money. This is near Willian-levels of gazumping. He actually ghosted an entire football club so he could sign with Tottenham.

The story is he's pony, joined Newcastle for 1.8mm helped get them relegated by not giving a shit all year, and Newcastle gets relegated and manages to sell him for 30million!!
Newcastle got relegated and sold three attacking midfield players for nearly 80million. Ask Liverpool fans how they feel about their one so far
