Durant continues to be his own worst enemy. The funny thing is, nobody really blames Durant for the Nets being bad. Nobody serious is saying Durant needs to play better, and that it's all his fault. By opening his mouth like this, he is making himself appear like a bigger problem than if he just kept quiet and got his 30 a game.

It was about 5 minutes ago that they were 4-1 since Kyrie was benched, with a great net rating and just the one loss being by 2 to the Mavs. Back to back losses (by a combined 45 points) to the hapless Lakers and forever mediocre Kings, and this comes back up.

As someone who lives in Tri-State area and who works in Manhattan, I can tell you almost literally nobody cares about the Nets. Nobody talks about them. They could go 2-80 and there’d be about as much attention paid to them as Boston College in Boston.

Calling out Joe Harris and Royce O'Neal is weird because those guys have been and would be key rotation players if not starters on good teams.

I do recall Paul Pierce, during the depths of the 2006 offseason, noting in an interview that he was "a great player on bad team". I think the quote got pulled out of context a bit, but it did rankle some people at the time. However, he never did go out and specify the names of teammates when referring to "bad team".

Also, when reading the actual article, some of Durant's quotes are being taken out of context here as well:

He's not wrong about the bolded, and I don't believe he is trying to throw his teammates under the bus either. Seems like he is stating, perhaps a bit inelegantly, what we know, and that is the Nets without Kyrie are Durant and some nice role players that play hard and want to win as well. Never once mentions Ben Simmons, which is all we really need to know about that issue.

I don’t specifically remember Pierce saying that but he did a lot of dumb things in his younger years so I’ll take your word for it. But while it’s pretty bad to say you’re on a bad team, actually naming players feels so much worse somehow. There’s no explaining your way out of that. If you want a trade, fine, but that’s just a dick move.

Poor Edmond Sumner. Scrappy guard from Xavier, second rounder, bounces from Indiana to New Orleans, does his time as a two-way player and spends parts of three seasons in the G-league. Traded to Brooklyn. Waived by Brooklyn. Re-signs with Brooklyn. Finally gets a chance at some minutes because Kyrie is Kyrie....

Imagine if you're being paid $35 million per year to be the face of your business, and you go and publicly tell the customers of that business that the product sucks, and they shouldn't pay to see it.

In any other context, that'd be legally actionable. Non-disparagement clauses and whatnot.
