I didn’t watch the game last night, but saw the PBP.

Any indication Eovaldi was tipping his pitches? He went from effective to being immediately flayed by the entire Blue Jays lineup. To me, that screams the Jays were picking up on something.

In the 5th inning, Eovaldi was throwing his 96 mph fastball just above the strike zone and it looked flat. He seemed tired right at the beginning of the inning. I'm sure that Cora recognized this but was hoping against hope that he could get through the inning with a 2-2 score, so that he could profitably use his better relievers. I felt it was a mistake before the Bichette double.

Small consolation but Pivetta looks like he belongs.

He belongs in that he's capable of pitching a gem at any time. He also has been incredibly inconsistent.
His last two starts were bad
His start before that was mediocre
His start before that was bad
His start before that was a gem
His start before that we bad
Etc
If he doesn't harness his stuff more regularly, then I'm not sure he's a guy who can be counted on to be competitive in most starts, which is what "belongs" means to me.

Disagree…. In that I agree with your overall point…. But think he still “belongs”. Just at the bottom of the rotation at this point

We’ll Richards really wasn’t bad last night. I still expect and hope he’s bumped whenever the fuck Sale returns as a long relief guy to spot Sale and Houck if they can’t go 5 or 6.

I remember godley. But who the hell was Robinson Leyer?

He was an uncredited extra ("guy who looks lost on the mound #16) on the comedy troupe that was the 2020 Sox pitching staff.

Also, Speier is tweeting a bit deceptively; Leyer is an excellent trivia question since he ties* for the best ERA for any Red Sox starter of 2020, and certainly the best ERA of a starter in the cited stretch.

I mean, he was pulled after one scoreless inning to open the game, but a start is a start. Right?

*He was matched in this feat by Austin Brice and Ryan Brasier.

Give me more Tanner Houck please. Since his return to the majors in July, he's put up this line: 15.1 ip, 8 h, 3 r, 2 er, 6 bb, 24 k, 1.17 era, 0.91 whip, 14.1 k/9.

In his brief major league career, he's put up this line as a starter: 8 g, 38.2 ip, 26 h, 11 r, 8 er, 15 bb, 52 k, 1.86 era, 1.06 whip, 12.1 k/9

And it's not smoke and mirrors. It's a big-time fastball (mid-high 90s), and an absolute wipeout slider, to go with solid control, all coming from a difficult arm angle.

Maybe ERod signs a 1-yr pillow contract? I'll start a new thread (now that I can; thanks Sprowl!) if others want to discuss this, but it can wait to the offseason too.

He's only had one bad start in the majors so far, and that can be blamed on an injury. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what he does the rest of the year.

Read on game thread 9/11 Seabold gets the start tonight but can’t find confirmation anywhere.
Not expecting much. If he can go 4 innings and give up < 2 runs…. Hand it off to Whitlock or Richards for 3 I’ll consider it a good debut.
