Looks like he's pretty broken up about not being able to force a trade to Boston and party with the MIT girls in Kendall Square

Well, it looks like he's going to need every dollar of that contract.

No chance he opts out after year 6. Absolutely no chance. 7/218?? I guess in 6 years, $31mm per year for a player may not seem as outrageous as it does now, but I cannot believe that he won't opt out.

Will also be interesting to see, if the Marlins don't make the PS during those 6 years, does he forgo the 7/218mm he's got left, sign maybe an 8/200 or 8/225 deal, and go to a winning team? Takes a bit less money in AAV (and maybe overall) for a better chance to win.

I don't see the Marlins ever spending enough to merit a $31mm obligation to any player for 7 straight years.

I'd say better than even odds he opts out. What was the going rate for a top MLB player 6 years ago? Nowhere near what it is today. 6 years from now, it's hard to believe that upper echelon talent will be signing for "just" $30 MM per year.

who the fuck asked this question?
I'd hope that's more than the national average per day.
But I'm assuming the question asker can't speak proper English either, and meant yearly salary.

Wasn't that the thought about Arod's $252 back in 2000?.
Sure, it seems high now, but in a few years it won't be that bad.

And didn't he opt out?
