It may be fanciful to suggest that De Boer could engineer a similar run to the title for Spurs this season, despite his penchant for a Lazarus act, but it would suggest that a Champions League spot would be well within Tottenham's grasp at least.

The players waiting for him at White Hart Lane should be relatively ripe for arranging in his desired style. He would be delighted to be reunited with Christian Eriksen and Jan Vertonghen, and knows Nacer Chadli from the Eredivisie too.

Tottenham want Frank de Boer as new manager and the Ajax boss HAS been approached

Not a body language expert like Mr. Bill Simmons, but that goal celebration seemed especially unethuisastic to me. Soldado and Adebayor didn't come together to congratulate each other. Soldado help his arms up near the sideline while a few people went up to Adebayor.

Either this team has absolutely no chemistry and/or Adebayor is a dick who his teammates don't like.

That chain URI wanted on Lloris would have helped there.

2-2, 30 minutes left.

I wanna see a third goal, followed by an Antoine Walker shimmy.

Soldado has become Fernando Torres, only with less fabulous hair.

But he's at least *starting* to look a bit dangerous in open play. It's a Christmas Miracle.

It really would have been nice if Soldado could have finished one of those cookies in the middle of the second half.

I really liked the line: "A penny for AVB's thoughts."  Adebayor certainly seemed faster in the open field than he did in the past.

Finally got a chance to watch.

Ade looks like he did 2 years ago, which to me means he is motivated to shove it up AVBs ass.

Defending still looked shaky as shit me, but the line played deeper a bit. I think if you play a high back 4 with Rose - Vertonghen - Vlad - Walker you might get a 7-4 game.

I liked the way the offense played for sure, but I think my top 11 now has a 4-5-1 with Erickson, Lennon, Lamela, Dembele, and Sandro in some combination with either Soldado or Motivated Ade up top.

I would against teams with a weak back line like Southampton ran out.

But against a team in the top half of the league, especially ones with a strong midfield, I think you need the complementary skills up the middle with Ericksen, Dembele, and Sandro.

I don't see Chelsea having much trouble shutting down Soldado/Ade pairing, for example.

Eriksen. Did quite well, apparently (I wasn't able to watch).
Gylfi out left.

Edit: And apparently an precocious debut for 19 y/o Bentaleb in for Moussa in 50th minute.

Pardon my ignorance of the effects of various formation shifts, but where does that put Paulino? Or were you just talking about the next two games until his suspension is complete?

I'd give Paulinho some Euro/FA time.

Of all the signees, I think he's been the biggest disappointment.

But of the central guys I'm thinking about, Sandro is better in a holding role, and Eriksen is the better distributor.  He's better box to box than Dembele is, but Dembele is kind of a unique player and I like what he brings to complement Sandro/Eriksen.

I don't think it says that at all, just that no one wants the job at this time of year.

Sherwood made it seem like he was only interested if there was some stability, so he has that for a year to protect himself a bit, and conversely, if he flames out, Spurs can drop him without much worry.

Conversely, if one of their targets (like van Gaal, who is completely unavailable right now), shows interest in July, they can go and get him, and gives him time to install his system.

Eriksen with a beautiful free kick from about 20 yards for his first PL goal. 1-0 Spurs.

EDIT: And tied. Geez. Off a free kick rebound on a bad foul by Eriksen.

So far....

Adebayor is active and working well with Soldado, Gyfli is playing very well, Eriksen and Holtby seem to be linking well in the center, and Walker/Rose are both defending and attacking in sync, with Rose looking particularly dangerous to WBA.

Dawson is crazy slow and is really struggling out there.  The goal was pretty much on Vlad and he's been dispossessed in dangerous areas way too often for comfort. I think Tottenham have been playing with 10, since Chadli has been completely invisible.

Either injured/hurt/suspended:
Paulinho
Defoe
Sandro
Dembele
Lennon
Townsend
Vertonghen
Kaboul

That's a hell of a team if you just add a RB and LB.

They look great with the ball, but Dawson and Chiriches will continuously get exposed without a holding midfielder giving them help

It's more like playing with 9 since Vlad has been more helpful to WBA so far.

Well it looks like Lamela is coming on.

Unfortunately, Vlad needs to pull his head out of his ass, since I doubt he'd be substituted.

Starting to build some pressure.

I wonder who can stray further from their area--Vlad or Lloris?

Bentaleb on for Holtby...maybe Sherwood can't see Chadli either.

I keep thinking this guy plays for WBA:

Yeah, that was bad.

But they still had plenty of chances. Need 3 points on Sunday or it's going to be a loooooong second half of season.

Most of them were half chances at best I thought. Rose being back is huge but the whole team is still lacking quality in the final third

Yeah...they would build into the final third and then they'd make one more pass that would be horrific and WBA would be off the other way.

I can already tell I'm going to lose it this game.

Our strikers can't finish, and our fullbacks are either shit or too young to be called shit.

On the other hand, Paulinho should kick people in the chest more often.

I don't know who that guy is that just scored, but I wish he would get the chance to bag a few more.  He looks alright today.

And it looks like bodies all over the pitch, because Stoke.  Nzonzi pushes Paulinho after getting crispy, and then takes a swing at Ade.

It seemed that Adebayor could have had an easier finish, but tried to bicycle it.

Adebayor being Adebayor.

Just wait until he takes a 2 footed studs up challenge on Nzonzi later.

He's not only playing his best game for Spurs, but he's the best player on the pitch by a pretty wide margin right now.

That give and go with Eriksen would have made me goalcum if Stoke didn't bracket Paulinho immediately after Ericksen's pass.

A couple of games off probably did him well. His travel schedule this year has been ridiculous.

Edit: would be nice for him to occasionally hit the target

Dembele should show that goal on a continual loop to Townsend.

"Here is how Gareth did it"

And then Lennon should do the same.

Spurs are trolling Sparky now.

Christ, even Lamela almost scored.

EDIT: When was the last time the Spurs played the final 15 minutes and weren't pressing for a tying goal or frantically clearing the ball out of their end?
