Based on their website, NESN isn't carrying the first game live, as they have a NCAA WBB listed at 2 pm.

I already posted a link that contains those games. What I am looking for is the times that I can watch one or more of them on my TV. I am just being impatient, b/c it will undoubtedly shake itself out by then. I have tried going ahead on my Directv schedule, but all I get now is "To Be Announced."
Judging from this YES and SNET are televising Tor v. NYY and CSNC will have cameras at Brewers @ White Sox on Sunday. My guess is that mlbn will carry the Yankees game, because. No indication to me yet that NESN is televising this first game at all.

I posted that schedule to clarify that the first game for the Red Sox is NOT this Friday, but is actually this Sunday.

All games on radio. t least 10 on NESN. I have YTTV, so out of luck there. Some will be shown taped delay on MLB network. I don't really like FUBO. So I guess it's national broadcasts for Sox games or nothing.

https://www.mlb.com/news/red-sox-2021-spring-training-faq"How can I watch/listen/follow Spring Training games?
NESN will televise a minimum of 10 Grapefruit League games, including the March 1 home opener against the Braves. The full schedule will be released in the coming days. All games will be available to listen to via select stations on the Red Sox Radio Network, including 850-AM in Boston. You can follow play-by-play of all Red Sox games using the MLB app. "

The specifics about the radio schedule from the glob. (No word if the Sox network outside boston is picking them up. )

All 29 spring training games will be broadcast by WEEI. All but two will be on 850-AM. The March 21 (Pittsburgh) and March 28 (Minnesota) games will be on 93.7-FM

Is there a reason they can't use NESN+ for more games? Is it lack of announcers or something? I'd be willing to watch them without commentary.

I don't think there is a whole lot of programming that it would be worth it to push the games to NESN+. Unless they've upgraded the quality of shows since I last watched the channel. I guess they don't want to pay for the cameramen and the others costs of broadcasting a game.

Your guess is exactly the reason. It's not that they have programming on the main NESN channel that they don't want to pre-empt, it's the cost of the broadcast in general that limits them. To broadcast a 3-hour game, it's probably high five, low six figures per game between satellite time and labor costs. I can't imagine there's enough of an audience at 1pm on a weekday, even during a pandemic where a lot of people are WFH, to invest the cost.

What I'm surprised they haven't done is stream games online. They could use one or two fixed cameras (maybe one behind the plate and one in CF) and one person (it could be an intern) switching the cameras as needed. No announcers, no graphics, just pictures and native sound from the ballpark. They did something like that during "spring training 2.0" last summer, streaming intrasquad games from Fenway.

It's always money. No matter the question. The steaming games thing is cool. It's better than infomercials or almost all of their programming that isn't actually games being played.

I am not hearing the game there. There are a couple of guys talking instead. KJ and Barrett?
The link is still working fine for me. Maybe you have to be in the local broadcast area for it to work?
WEEI's website plays their FM channel, which right now is the usual talk sports radio crap.

Thanks. That is probably right, but seems the opposite of what it should be. I am in WMA, and I have no trouble getting the FM version, but no luck getting the AM affiliate over the air. Whereas anyone in Boston would have no trouble getting the AM over the air. So, long story short, I am disappointed.

Anyone know why Joe and the other guy keep saying it’s 5-1, but ESPN and the MLB app say it’s 3-1?

I do. They are not really following the rules, and the app didn't know how to deal with the fact that they ended the Caleb Simpson meltdown inning with one out, after a Sano double with the bases loaded. Castig and Floeming have it right.

Thank you. Missed that. And there’s a homer by Jeter!

The Twins are coming out to hit in the bottom of the 7th?
Not unusual for spring training for the bottom of the last inning to be played even when the home team is leading. It's a chance to give a few more guys an at bat, so long as the other team has a pitcher available to throw. The game outcome is meaningless, after all.

What makes it strange is they cut the second inning short because of a new rule to protect pitchers. Because the reliever exceeded 20 pitches, they can call off the rest of the inning rather than bring another reliever in. So the pitches saved then gave them pitches to throw in the bottom of the 7th.

Spring training!

I hate this with a passion. Understand why but still hate it.

I'm just excited to see live baseball, this is the best day! Also, interested to see what Richards's stuff looks like when he is healthy.
