It's interesting how large the impact of traveling vs. non-traveling squads is in Spring Training. If my quick math is right, home teams are 142-81 (63.7%) this Spring.

Also, I am enjoying the [Adams --> Adams --> Adam S] pitcher shuffle.

Ugh. Giolito and Story with ouchies before leaving Fla. I know that was the odds-on bet, but it's still really discomfiting.
I prefer mild upper back tightness to shattered shoulder, wrist, or torn UCL at least!

And hopefully the Giolito stuff is just a temporary setback. At least we're not the Yankees, already losing Gerrit Cole for the year.

Yeah, both seem more in the "ouchie" than "injury" category, I was just wishing that Giolito and Story could focus on reps not rehab.

Totally agree. Just to say that so far the only major, major injuries appear to be to Crawford, who's got upside but was looking to be our 6th starter. Everything else has been very minor, or in the form of setbacks and gastrointestinal illnesses, which will surely slow guys down...but as long as it's handled correctly, shouldn't be the end of the world. I am a little concerned about replacing the production of Wilyer, a 3ish fWAR player, but definitely not freaking out and he's already resuming workouts and stuff.

Agree with you (aren't we polite this morning!) as well. And it's often okay to have a few guys who will benefit from an extended spring, since management gets a chance to play guys who might be caught in a roster squeeze and get a better read on where they are at.

I guess I will watch this because I am a Red Sox addict.
But we are just about to start a new season with a lot more optimism and some exciting new players, and I am not looking forward to being dragged back to last season's disappointment and misery and frustration by this series.

Did you somehow manage to mention the explicit trailing of 2024 for 2025? They show Anthony in Portland in the trailer, the ending is clearly lined up to go from the disappointment of last year’s September to this year’s retooled team, it literally says “From rock bottom to getting back on top.” In the meantime it’s about the people on the team and how they handle the season. Maybe some of you might see that shot of Whitlock devastated at his table or the grind and boredom of rehab and stop talking about the players on this team like they’re not people, and like injuries are a moral failing, but per that shot of Ceddanne missing a catch overlaid with someone screaming “He’s a bum,” being negative is just a way of life for some of you.

It's been said a few times here, and I agree... wouldn't the off-season have been a much better time to show this? I know... production, etc..... and you don't want to start into building a narrative and editing for that until the featured team is completely out of anything that may change what you (director) was storylining before. It'd be a lot of work to wrap up shooting at the end of September and have it ready to air by say, January 1st. But yeah... I don't care to watch this at all anymore. I probably would have been interested like a month ago

PAEZ (best control tool in Spring Breakout):

Best control: Jedixson Paez, RHP, Red Sox (70)
Since signing for $450,000 out of Venezuela in 2021, Paez has posted a 3.25 ERA and 4 percent walk rate while succeeding at four different levels. He's coming off his best season yet, ranking second in the Minors in K/BB ratio (9.5) and third in walk rate (3 percent) among pitchers with 90 or more innings in 2024. He works from a low three-quarters slot with a flat approach angle, addling life and deception to his pitches without compromising his control.

Is this addressed at someone in particular? Not gaf'ing about players & being miserable is more of a Main Board thing.

I read (skimmed) this long azz article on middle relief pitcher options for the Red Sox...

2025 Red Sox Season Preview: Middle Relief - Over the Monster

...but my biggest question is wtf is Josh Nunes? The former Stanford QB?

Josh Nunes throws nothing but off-speed pitches because who needs a fastball? Neat!
Honestly have no clue who he is even referring to? The only Josh in the org is Winckowski. New signee José De León maybe?

I thought about Jovani Moran, Matt Moore & Sean Newcomb, but they all threw about 50% fastballs last year...

Smh...

Brian van Belle and Grant Gambrell both exist and have thrown a couple of innings. One of the last eight names is actually just my friend from college and not a professional pitcher. He’s getting married this summer. We’re so deep in the weeds I can make things up, and nobody knows. Thanks for reading.
At least the guy is a Red Sox fan.

I would happily do the predictions thread, but you know, politics. I can put together an OP in a couple hours if someone wants to post it, though.
I'll just post a quickie mock-up mostly stolen from RR in case anyone wants to do a thread. I changed some of the thresholds cuz YOLO:

A little over 1 million seconds till opening day, give or take a couple of hundred-thousand.

So it's time for our annual contest: How many games will this team win?

Our previous winners were @Apisith in 2021, @Hank Scorpio in 2022, @patinorange in 2023 & @Jordu in 2024.

Last year's contest featured RR's departure & perfect mediocrity.

Here's how we do it:

1) Vote in the poll as you like. (It's really just to see how we're all collectively leaning.)

2) Make a post to this thread where you pick an exact number of wins to qualify for the fantabulous no-prize. E.g. 89 wins.

3) In your post, answer as many of the following tie-breaker questions as you like - all, none, whatever. In the case of a tie for exact number of games won, a final winner will be determined by greatest number of correct answers to the following tie-breaker questions. The tiebreaker questions will also be separately scored & judged at the end of the season. The no-prize for this is expected to be epic.

4) Your win-pick and tie-breaker questions can be changed up till the first pitch of the first Red Sox game of 2025. Any edits after the first pitch disqualify the post entirely. However, you can always guess now and edit your post later, say, if someone goes on the IL in spring training. As a courtesy, the thread will be updated with the final Opening Day 26 Man roster when it is finalized. I'll also post up running totals of chosen win numbers so you can make whatever re-drafts you'd like before opening day.

Tie-Breaker Questions
(Hitting reply and then responding to them is probably the easiest way to log your answers. Any answer that hedges a bet with two possibilities is disqualified, although "none" is always acceptable.

1) Team leader in Wins?
2) Team leader in Losses?
3) Team leader in Saves?
4) Team leader in ERA (minimum 120 IP)?
5) Team leader for Batting Average (minimum 450 PAs)?
6) Team leader for OBP (minimum 450 PAs)?
7) Team leader in OPS (minimum 450 PAs)?
8) Team leader in HR?
9) Team leader for RBI?
10) Team leader in Stolen Bases?
11) Team leader in HBP?
12) Team leader in OAA (Outs Above Average)?
13) Player who plays the most 2B innings this season?
14) Player who plays the most LF innings this season?
15) Player who plays the most 3B innings this season?
16) Player who plays the most CF innings this season?
17) Name the Pitchers who starts the greatest number of games this season?
18) Player who makes the Opening Day Roster (26 man), who subsequently spends the greatest number of days on the IL?
19) Pitcher not on the Opening Day Roster (26 man) who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (fWAR)?
20) Position Player not on the Opening Day Roster who makes the greatest subsequent contribution (fWAR)?
21) Pitcher not on the 26-man roster at any point last year (2024) who makes the greatest contribution (fWAR)?
22) Position Player not on the 26-man roster at any point last year (2024) who makes the greatest contribution (fWAR)?
23) Player to throw the first punch of the year (no shoves - a true swing)?
24) Name a player who has ML playing time for the Sox in 2025 who is traded away during the season (counts for 2 points if you name the player first traded by the Sox.)?
25) Player with greatest number of transfers between Boston/Worcester (note: IL stints count, but only if they play a game for Worcester).
26) Player with the greatest number of suspension days?
27) Stupidest Facial Hair at All-Star Break?
28) Total number of pitchers to face at least one hitter? (in 2024 they used 34 - one point if within 5, 2 if exactly correct)
29) Total number of hitters to get at least one PA? (in 2024 they had 25 - one point if within 5, 2 if exactly correct)
30) Total number of trades made between Opening Day and the end of the trade deadline?

Greg Weissert is another arm who’s looked fantastic early this spring.

0 ER, 0.57 WHIP, 8 K in 7.0 IP thus far.

Safe to say Cora likes him too… 62 G was most among Sox arms in ‘24.

SW avg’d 20.3” HB, most in MLB.

If he can limit baserunners, that’s a lethal pen weapon.

Campbell allowed 2 hits, but pitched a scoreless 5th. Red Sox up 2-0 in the 6th. Campbell is back in for the 6th if you trust GameCast.

ETA: Bernardino is now the guy pitching the 6th.

Pretty sure it hasn't been released anywhere, yet.

I will guess...

3B Mayer

1B Blaze
DH Mikey

Red Sox: Justin Gonzales, 1B/OF (No. 15)
Signed for $250,000 out of the Dominican Republic in January 2024, Gonzales debuted by slashing .320/.391/.517 with 20 extra-base hits and eight steals over 47 games in the Rookie-level Dominican Summer League, winning both a league championship and the organization's Latin program player of the year award. He already features plus raw power with more to come, generating impressive exit velocities while also making advanced swing decisions.
A bit confused because Gonzales wasn't listed on the roster?

Pretty close. I should have realized they would prioritize the show of the Spring Breakout over the working more guys in at more positions they may help the Sox at this year thing. Got 8 out of 9 in the lineup, but the positions all messed up. Had the top 8 all correct in the lineup order, too, except swapped Blaze & Mikey. I was legit debating that, too lol

TY @JM3

You were pretty close. I wish we were seeing Arias.
Yeah, if we're not catching Brannon, I would also rather see Cespedes at DH.

If I was setting the lineup from the roster options I would have...

CF Roman
3B Mayer
LF KCamp
RF Bleis
DH Yoely
SS Arias
2B Mikey
1B Blaze
C Brannon
