Not to get too off topic but quick Google yielded this first hit.
http://breakingmuscle.com/nutrition/cold-vs-room-temperature-water-during-workouts

Power lifters could bench press more drinking room temp water vs. cold but no effect was found in other athletes. Seems right to me - that it would only have a significant effect in a situation where you are pushing your muscles to failure. All those calories matter in an extreme situation like that. It's far from what is happening in football. Otherwise, they'd have to take the starters off the field every game.

I'm not sure he was completely joking. And your work in the maths department was strong.

At this point my rooting interests in non-Patriot games are basically reduced to "who isn't a big fat crybaby?" Tom Coughlin, for one, wouldn't be caught dead getting wrapped up in this. Hope he doesn't get canned this year, if only because he and BB are buds. Hell, as mentioned above, for all his faults, Rexy won't fall into the trap either.
It kinda got me thinking -- let's say the Patriots were in the NFC and have had the same success over the decade+, and the Bears or something were in the AFC. I wonder if all the complaining is because it's the Steelers, Ravens, and Colts (they seem to have a history complaining), or if we would see the Packers, Lions, and a non-division opponent do the same thing.

Not to mention, drinking cold water/gatorade takes longer.  It's real easy to chug luke-warm stuff, not so much for something that's going to give you brain freeze.

If I'm running a marathon and I get a cup of ice-cold water, I'd be pretty pissed.

You know, thinking of Marciano's background, that small difference very well could matter in boxing. Boxing can lead to extreme situations where every calorie counts, especially when they're throwing punches in the later rounds as if they were underwater.

I wasn't joking just pointing out that to the extremely minimal extent it makes a difference whether it's better to drink warm or cold liquid, warm is fractionally better. It's like saying they double the caffeine in the decaffeinated coffee in the visitor's locker room.

Looks like the NFL is learning....

The statement read: Based on our review to date, we believe that the audio interference on the Steelers’ headsets last night was entirely attributable to an electrical issue made worse by the inclement weather, that it involved no manipulation by any individual, and that the Patriots had nothing to do with it. The issue was promptly resolved and there were no further problems for the remainder of the game. We will continue to review the matter to determine if there are technical steps that can be taken to avoid similar problems for occurring in other games.

Which is why Pittsburgh never filed a complaint, and is among the reasons Tomlin today looks ridiculous. Hint -- focus on coaching and preparation.

Not true about Rexy.  We have footage of his headset having issues -- he did not take it well.

I'm not sure how serious the above post is but since they fixed the issue in the game last night they probably know what caused it.
The "investigation" likely consisted of asking the the onsite techs what was up.

Edit:The consensus seems to be not serious at all, ok.

For the record I was 100% joking. The sad part is we've lost all perspective qnd common sense. And there are plenty of mouth breathers out there that would believe it.
My hope is that it reaches the point of other ESPN hype machine story arks like TEBOW or Is Favre Coming Back!?? They keep pumping out these articles, it becomes a talking point on SportsCenter, hot takes, etc. a certain segment of the public will continue to lap this stuff up. I admit sadly that I click on those links too - they've trained us to do so. But at a certain point it becomes so preposterous and transparent that the thinking fan has to see it for what it is. I know a couple of these types (non-Pats fans). It's kind of a litmus test at this point for people that I want to keep talking about sports with or not.

Drinking warm liquid is actually better during competition. Your body doesn't have to waste any calories bringing it up to body temperature. Very, very minimal difference, but it's better.
Exponent just released a report denying this.

Does "and the Patriots had nothing to do with it" strike anyone else as somewhat odd phrasing for a PR statement? Ten bucks says it was a late insert into the paragrah.

If the statement was designed to slow down all the whispers and innuendo about the Cheatriots, it's not odd at all. I'm not sure what you're saying here. It's actually the opposite of odd.

I get what he's saying, though. It's just clumsy wording. Something like "it is clear that neither the Patriots organization, nor any staff or personnel, bear any responsibility for the faulty communications issue." Seems more appropriately toned.

There's a video making the rounds on FB now, titled "Those cheating motherf*ckers"... it shows the play clock at about 8 minutes in the 4th quarter of the Steelers game -  the Pats have the ball, 3rd and 12... the play clock ticks down to 10 seconds, Brady "signals to the clock operator" and the play clock jumps back up to 25 seconds.

Of course, there's also this:

My post is lazy messageboarding, but I'm posting in the "sportcenter makes up stories" thread, so fuck it. I think it was the Colts game in 04, the Pats hosted a playoff home game, and RIGHT before game time the snow started. I remember thinking it was magic.

The patriots facebook page had a status update today that said something like

"The NFL is investigating claims that the rain Thursday night was harder on the Steelers side than it was on the Patriots side. The NFL believes that their investigation will find that the Pats are the cause of climate change."

What they fail to mention is that the ref announces that it's an incomplete pass and 3rd down with only about 18 seconds on the playclock (booth review?). Hard to hear on the broadcast because the two clowns are discussing deflategate.

I've seen the video and the "narrator" points out Brady and his hand signal as some sort of code to their clock manipulator to give him more time... pure idiocy.

I'm sure that if Brady is under center with 10 seconds on the clock he has more than enough time to get the snap off. He's called for delay of game what? Once every two seasons?

It's bad enough that we have to read-reaction to actual stories from the media, without wasting bandwidth on fan-generated bullshit.

Start a Crackpot Fan Accusations thread for that stuff, so those of us with lives don't have to waste time slogging through that shit

It's sad because you see QBs doing this all the time when Refs don't reset the play clock. It's not some super secret hand signal.

Apologies. From now on I'll post only media-approved shit for you to slog through.

I'm falling victim to Patriots-hate overload. At least with stuff generated from the media, there's a semi-legitimacy filter in place

Mike Martz: "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't" write that statement. He also said he never had any suspicions at the time, but after that report about the walkthrough...

http://mweb.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25299819/martz-doesnt-recall-writing-last-few-lines-of-statement-given-to-nfl

“I can’t recall writing the last few lines of the statement,” Martz said. “I don’t recall writing anything about Matt Walsh. Could it have been I did it? Maybe. But I don’t think I would have written that. I couldn’t say with 100 percent certainty that I didn’t.”

I was just going to post this. Makes the "investigative journalism" piece look that much worse. Is there any question this is exactly how all of their "sources" for the piece spoke? I think maybe they could have but I have no proof.

Haha... I noted that was probably it before. If you can, go back and look at something you wrote 5-10 years ago. It usually looks really different to what you think you wrote.

For me it's even more pronounced in things where i edited it a lot. Writing and re-writing parts of it. Since you end up super focused on the sentences versus overall structure or flow.

But I bet someone (NFL, Bill, Kraft, name a tinfoil hat conspiracy) just got to Martz and told him what would be best for him.

Imagine a Harbaugh brother to say something like that? But, of course, they couldn't because they are both too busy throwing tantrums.
