Luddite question

The last couple of days, I've been having obvious spam webpages show up multiple times a day. They're promoting the usual ("You have a chance to win, once you answer these 7/9 questions," etc) using name companies as the bait. The url reads along the lines of "fortunateflukedrive.life," which I looked up to no avail.

Navigating away from the page usually works, but I'm more concerned with getting rid of this sort of nonsense.

Any help appreciated

If you have not installed any extensions prior to getting these website redirects (still check your currently installed extensions to make sure nothing was installed that you did not physically approve) , the easiest fix which usually works 99% of the time is to clear cache and history for the past week. Though if you are getting that website redirect on multiple browsers i would run a virus scan as it would most likely point to something on the computer itself

What operating system? What browser? Running any ad blocker?

I don't if it's the same thing, but yesterday I was on Sosh switching between various tabs and when i returned instead of sosh I was looking at some spammy looking sports site. I immediately clicked back and landed back on sosh. I thought I had clicked on something by accident, which might still be the case, but it did seem strange at the time.

One of the sites that it switched to for me was for Spectrum, the other for Amazon -- both of which I had visited the day before this started. So, maybe this is similar

I've gotten the exact same thing actually (same website too); it's usually been on ESPN, but now I wonder if it's something cached from an ad here

I should note that for some reason a couple of days ago my adblocking software had stopped working, so maybe the visit to the spammy site probably happened during that time. Looking at the Sosh page right now, I really don't see any external links now anywhere on sosh.

Always a good idea to install an adblocker.

I'd install AdGuard if you don't have anything setup for ad blocking: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/adguard-for-safari/id1440147259?mt=12 - it's supposed to be better than Apple's built-in blocker.
(I'm not a Mac guy, so others might have better options but my quick search seemed to show that one as good and free)

The reddit reports around "fortunateflukedrive.life" seem to be from ESPN (mostly), I'm assuming you visit there.

I long ago downloaded the Google browser for Mac OS. Much better than Safari. Not thats necessarily a solution to your problem.
At one point this was the correct decision.

If someone is trying to figure out what to do for 3rd party browser right now, I would suggest Firefox. Chrome (Google's browser) sort of has some ad/tracking issues that are getting more pronounced, and the performance is not nearly as good as it once was.

I am thinking of swapping Chrome for Firefox soon.

Has annyone else been getting a pop up asking “Do you want to download occ?” I checked a few sites and forums and this has been happening to a lot of people on iPad and iPhone devices, Safari. Apple doesn't even know what it is.

I run ungoogled Chromium (which is built from the same source as Chrome but eliminates a lot of the tracking stuff) and Firefox.
