I think you have to go back to the Christian Peter draft pick by the Patriots in 1996 to see it happen before the Miller situation
Wil Cordero was released by the Red Sox in 1997 after his DV arrest. Of course, he was arrested on June 11 and wasn't let go until after the season concluded, but hey, they did sit him down for a whole week following the arrest. At least he was gone before he pleaded guilty. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you all want to do something about domestic violence, and are considering quitting watching baseball, I would say there a lot of other more positive ways of making a difference than casting a baseball protest vote. That's not to say I wouldn't encourage that if you feel you must, only that we all enjoy plenty of problematic things in our lives, and my sense has always been that's not really the whole issue.

For example, there are plenty of local organizations in your areas that probably need help, volunteers, money. Most domestic violence hotlines are staffed by volunteers.

And there are people in many of our lives who probably need that help, too.

I encourage anyone who's frustrated by this news or by DV in general to take a look around. It might change or save someone else's life. And it might change yours too.
To that end, I’ve worked with Greater Boston Legal Services in the past, both fundraising and pro bono referrals. Haven’t worked directly with https://www.transitionhouse.org, but know someone there and have heard good things as well.

Thanks for the links, I was just thinking about places I could donate when he makes appearances this year and Transition House looks perfect. Let's make this a thing in the gamethreads.

Glad to help. GBLS is the local gold standard for the legal side of DV and lots of other pro bono issues, but I agree that Transition House’s more immediate and holistic mission seems like a great fit for donations (and my WAG is that they’re probably nowhere near as well funded, from a donation perspective).

Thanks for this. What a terrific, productive alternative to offer, thanks to @Fishy1 as well.

I have to admit that I enjoyed the Altuve home run against Chapman so much because, as much as I don't love Altuve, and the ridiculous story about his shirt, I hate Chapman more...and his face...the smirk of defeat, was so good.

Like the thought of making a donation to help survivors of domestic abuse vs. discussing Chapman. We can at least help with the former. For over 20 years I’ve been donating to The Friendship Center in Helena, Mt. I don‘t live in Helena any longer but protecting women and children from abuse is as worthwhile a cause as there is and I still support TFC annually.

And Fuck Aroldis Chapman.

Hell yeah to all of this. What people need is our support as much as they need our condemnation.

How did you feel about him when he was yours? Honest question.
It changed over time, he is incredible when he is on, but he is also very frustrating. He is an insanely talented athlete, he supposedly beat Billy Hamilton in a match race when they were Reds teammates. One frustrating thing is that even though he is a one inning guy, he almost never comes out of the pen throwing his top velocity, it takes him 8 or 10 pitches to get there, and that velocity varies from game to game. Also like I said somewhere already, sometimes he has no chance of throwing a strike and so you always need someone ready behind him, which is not always so easy mid-season.

That graphic really says it all. This is just a low rent, no one gives a fuck organization right now.
Pirate's uniform aside, there's also what looks to be some semblance of part of a Red Sox jersey behind Chapman.

And something looks wrong with the word "RED" in "RED SOX"... like the R is oddly warped or something?

I'm thinking AI made that graphic, and no one bothered to pay attention to it.

I do strangely want to know the story here. It’s such a shit job on multiple levels that it’s almost more likely the wrong copy was used.

Looks like someone just did a “snip” of a photo of Chapman and lazily pasted it without noticing or caring that there’s something above his right shoulder which looks weird.

Whatever, if he’s stays healthy he will be traded to the Braves or Phillies before the deadline.

I agree, the Red Sox font is wonky and definitely looks like AI bullshit.
