Not quite the trade I was expecting... or honestly even knew about (CJ Chatham was dealt back in January???).

https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2021/07/boston-red-sox-complete-trade-victor-santos-21-year-old-pitching-prospect-acquired-from-phillies-as-player-to-be-named-later-for-cj-chatham.html

"The 6-foot-1, 191 pounder from the Dominican Republic began the season at High-A Jersey Shore where he posted a 1.33 ERA (20 ⅓ innings, three earned runs), 1.08 WHIP"

Anyone have any better info on this guy? At one point, I recall Chatham being pretty highly ranked... but probably at a low point in the Sox's system

He's a RHP who sits around 90 and tops out at 93. He gets by on control and is advanced for his age but will probably struggle as he moves up. He throws a 2 seem fastball that is well below average, a solid slider and a plus split change.

Seems likely to be a mid-innings bullpen arm at best. Always valuable but basically fungible, yeah?

I'd assume Chatham was a 40 man roster thing. He was then released and eventually resigned by the Phillies for roster reasons. So I'm assuming Santos is a pretty lowly ranked prospect.

(I checked at Fangraphs and he's the 37th ranked prospect in the 28th ranked farm system)

If he can approach his 6.44 K/BB career miLB ratio in the majors, that’s always valuable.

Saturday night's loss felt like the baseball gods were a against us. So Chaim goes out and trades for the Victory Saint. I like it, can't believe Chaim pulled this off

Insanity! I'm happy. I'm surprised. Can't believe we got em.
If this was a trade by the Yankees we'd be hearing from certain posters about how Santos is awesome and amazing just like all other 35 pitchers in their system. But since it's the Sox we'll get posts about how a seven game sample means he can be traded with Dalbec to get Trout. :)
