No way it's Logan Allen and Margot for just Kimbrel. That would top Cherrington's overpays for relief help, unless they're sending Sandoval to the Padres or something.

This makes me nervous, as Kimbrel wasn't that good last year.
His second half numbers were more or less in line with his career stats. E.g., OPS against was back down to .426, WHIP back down to 0.73, K numbers consistent. So at first blush it seems like he just had a rocky start in SD. Of course, that begs the question about whether he will settle in to Boston right away, but it doesn't suggest that he's jumped the shark at age 27.

Adding, I saw one article on SBNation from early summer saying his line drive % was up a lot, which is why he was pedestrian in April and May, but by year's end his LD% was back below its previous levels and his % of hard contact was also lower than it had been in a couple years.

The wrong side of the bridge....
I'll miss Margot, but it was a pretty good bet one of him and Benintendi was leaving town this winter, and I think Benintendi is the better one to keep if only because his skill set is less redundant with Betts/JBJ/Castillo's.

Margot, Asuaje, Guerra and Allen, definitely more than just Kimbrel coming to Boston.

SS Javier Guerra, CF Manuel Margot (and more) in Padres/Kimbrel deal. Wrote today that defensive premium in game was elevating their value.

Edit:It seems that is it, looks to be an overpay for a relief ace but no one the Sox should miss too much.

Guerra AND Margot?

Listen, I'm all about trading prospects this offseason, but please tell me getting the right to pay Craig Kimbrel $13m for the next three years isn't the best we could do for 2 top-50 guys.

If that's the whole deal, the Padres burned a year of Kimbrel's contract, he had his worst season in 5 years, and they come out getting more than they gave ATL last offseason.

Allen, Margot, and Asuaje is way way too much for Kimbrel.

Hope the when the other shoe drops, it's a good fit.

Guerra and Margot? If Ross isn't part of the picture that's a pretty concerning duo for a deal headlined by a reliever getting paid market rate. Any chances this is the Pads bailing out on Wil Myers?

Wow, that's a ton for Kimbrel. He's a very good reliever but he's just a reliever. Looks like Ben Cherington all over again...

Worth noting that Kimbrel's SIERA has declined each of the last 4 years running. As has his strikeout rate...

Kimbrel had his worst year in the majors in an NL West pitcher's park last year. Margot alone is more than I'd have dealt for him.
