I'm not going to look at my overall stats before I post my thoughts. We'll learn how good/bad my lineup is together.
My first thought? Holy shit is this lineup pathetic. Let's look at the numbers. Again, they aren't weighted because I'm dumb.
7th in BB% - Good start. Team full of grinders like the Sox. Clearly on my way to the World Series.
7th in K% - My team doesn't strike out much either. I take it back, this team actually can grind down some at bats.
18th in ISO - League average power. I guess I'm OK with that.
28th in AVG - Impressive. Or not.
22nd in OBP - Well, I can grind down at bats, but don't end up on base. A team full of Justin Smoak's. Great.
28th on SLG - Can't get hits, can't get on base, can't hit homeruns. Overall, a pretty potent lineup.
23rd in wRC+ - Just fucking kill me.
17th in DEF - Roughly league average, but positions vary wildly. Fantastic CF, shitty 3B, etc. Rough.
21st in WAR - Bottom third of the league.
Overall, my guys can grind down at bats and have good enough defense to save some runs. Neither attribute is enough to make up for a lineup full of noodle bats. I expected a decline from Teixeira, but didn't expect him to be useless. Ditto for Hamilton. Encarnacion hit as well as I could have hoped for.
If Hamilton/Teixeira were able to perform even slightly less than their average, a 2-3-4-5 of:
Neil Walker
Josh Hamilton
Edwin Encarnacion
Mark Teixeira
Would have been solid, and certainly would have been enough to compete with the fantastic rotation/bullpen I have.
Unfortunately, Hamlton/Teixeira were dogpoop, and they submarined what could have been a very good year.
