I guess I'll do one of these lineup posts too. Platoons ended up being pretty central to my roster construction, so I'll post both the vs. LHP and vs. RHP lineups.
vs. RHP
1. Jurickson Profar, SS (S)
2. Matt Carpenter, 2B (L)
3. Ryan Braun, LF (R)
4. Eric Chavez, 3B (L)
5. Mark Reynolds, DH (R)
6. Nate Schierholtz (L)
7. Salvador Perez, C (R)
8. Mike Carp, 1B (L)
9. Cameron Maybin, CF (R)
vs. LHP (I know Forsythe's out for like 2 months, I'd probably replace him with Mike Carp or someone)
1. Profar (S)
2. Carpenter, 3B (L)
3. Braun, LF (R)
4. Reynolds, 1B (R)
5. Perez, C (R)
6. Logan Forsythe, DH (R)
7. Casper Wells, RF (R)
8. Scott Sizemore, 2B (R)
9. Maybin, CF (R)
Additional bench players: Jake Elmore (MI/PR), Dioner Navarro (C)
Also seems worth noting that I'd limit Chavez's PA's to 300-400 by liberally using Sizemore against RHP, and that Wells can handle all four OF positions.
Ideal Opening Day Rotation
1. R.A. Dickey (R)
2. Cory Luebke (L)
3. Trevor Rosenthal (R)
4. Julio Teheran (R)
5. Chris Tillman (R)
Bullpen:
Long man/sixth starter: Nate Eovaldi (R)
Middle relief: Jordan Lyles (R), Scott Kazmir (L)
Closer/set-up (matchup-based): Brad Peacock (R), George Kontos (R), Paco Rodriguez (L)
Luebke, Eovaldi and Kazmir are all on the DL to start the season, so I'd bump Lyles into the fifth starter slot.
I might write something a little more lengthy and in-depth about this team over the next few days, but I'll be short for now. The pitching looks really dreadful. Some of these young guys could end up amounting to something, but beyond R.A. Dickey there is nothing remotely close to a healthy, established MLB starting pitcher on the roster. I'm much happier with the lineup. I might be extrapolating too much from career platoon splits (and hoping for way too much from Eric Chavez), but I actually think it could be pretty good. I feel like I probably should have either committed to youth or veterans during the first few rounds though. A lot of my team's success will hinge on whether Jurickson Profar, Salvador Perez and Cameron Maybin can blossom quickly enough to be valuable contributors while Dickey and Braun are still in their prime. Of course, all of this will be moot if the rest of my pitching sucks. My biggest regret might be passing up Oscar Taveras in favor of R.A. Dickey and Cameron Maybin, but given my team's huge slant toward 25-and-under guys it might be for the best that I went with a couple of players who are a little bit more established.
