Put up some sick numbers in the PCL last year (only starter with an ERA under 3), with some fairly positive scouting reports to match, and should profile as an effective bullpen lefty, at least, which is where I'll slot him for the moment. Will double as rotation depth.

I was looking at Flynn when I picked Hughes. Nice pick, I think he carves out a nice little career for himself.

I'm surprised you didn't grab him earlier.
I should have. Probably has a better shot at a starting career than Duffy does, at this point.

Even though my outfield of Brantley CarGo & Trumbo are buzzing as Dirks is injured I need some outfield cover.

Ill go with a switch hitter who can cover multiple positions positions and is still relatively young.

Yangervis Solarte BP

Im not sure whos up as I am picking out of position.

Seems like a totally OK utility guy. Would only play against lefties every so often.

Jordan Lyles, RP5 (SP7)

This is the guy the Rockies got back for Dexter Fowler. The bad about Lyles is that he's been pitching at the MLB level for three years and his ERAs have been above 5 every year. The good news is that his peripherals have been a bit better than that, especially if you buy that his HR/FB is because of bad luck and not because there's something about his stuff that is getting pounded. The better news is that he's still just 23 years old and he was a top-50 prospect as recently as 2011. And he's been pretty good this year, especially in his last start when he shut down the White Sox for 1 run in 6 2/3 and also went 3-for-3 from the plate. Call him post-post-hype. I feel pretty good about him as a swing man / depth option.

Chris Capuano, RP

Picking up my second old guy to be my second lefty in the pen.  Capuano has kept his xFIP under 4 since 2010 while both starting and relieving.  He has very good numbers against left-handed hitters and will ease into the role of a loogy in the next few years.  He also can be stretched out if needed in the rotation.

David Hale, RP

Going to my alma mater to complete my pitching staff.  26 year old who is starting for the Braves due to injury.  Hale has performed well in his brief stint in the majors and looks like he could be a solid #4 starter.  He will start in the bullpen as he has a good sinking fastball and will be brought in to try and get a double play ball.

Hale will also be my 9th pitcher with starting capabilities and 8th under 27 years old.  I feel confident in Bumgarner, Ryu, Miley, and Perez.  My 5th starter spot is up in the air.  I currently have Johnson but he will have to hold off Webster, Hale, Capuano, and Crick.

My final pick of the 25-man roster will be a guy who will compete for the 5th spot or be the long man out of the pen.

I'll take RP Roberto Hernandez of Fausto Carmona fame.

I'll PM the next owner

Have not seen this guy picked.
Has looked decent in his two starts to date this season and will be able to spot start/middle relief.
He has an array of pitches. delighted with the pick up at this stage in the process.

Jake Diekman RP. Another Phil's lefty. Could be their closer by the end of the year. Full write up later.

Thanks JBO.

Diekman, the 28 year old lefty, throws straight gas averaging 95-96 and has hit triple digits. His secondary pitch is a plus slider that has some good movement. The Phillies have been using him in high leverage innings and even though his command can get a little wild he gets the job done. I had thought about taking him a few rounds back and I'm surprised he made it back to me. At this point in the draft I'm psyched to get a productive bullpen piece.

Its a Friday night/Saturday morning here and im just finished a long day at work followed by a couple of beers to watch the Sox Yanks live. Its a good time to look at how my team has started. (before anyone complains I know its very early days and at stage nothing really counts yet)

So right now my team would be (taking form and injuries into account)

Evan Gattis - C - Disappointing so far. Hopefully will pick it up a bit. Has potential to hit for power if not average.
Jose Abreu - 1B - Great start to his MLB career. Looks like he could end up as a ROY candidate.
Jose Altuve - 2B - I got a lot of criticism for this pick at the time. I thought at the time that he could end up being a lead off hitter. So far his numbers stand up to that.
Yangervis Solarte - 3B - Picked on form. Asche and Chrisenhall could also play here. All 3 are showing good potential and one of Asche/Chrisenhall is my DH.
Dee Gordon - SS - With Iggy out injured he gets the job. He has taken it so far. A very pleasant surprise.
Michael Brantley - LF - Doing well. Holding his own and contributing well.
Carlos Gonzalez - CF - Again I got stick for this pick. So far people ye were wrong! Pure production to date.
Mark Trumbo - RF - Great numbers offensively. OK defensively. Again is contributing above my expectations.

Based on the above my lineup is (WAR based on fangraphs 2014 to date)

1. Gordon - LH - 0.5 WAR
2. Abreu - RH - 0.6 WAR
3. CarGo - LH - 0.7 WAR
4. Trumbo - RH - 0.4 WAR
5. Brantley - LH - 0.1 WAR
6. Solarte - S - 0.5 WAR
7. Chisenhall - LH - 0.2 WAR
8. Gattis - RH - 0 WAR
9. Altuve - RH - 0.3 WAR

That team scores a lot of runs! Ill do pitching later.

PS I am also a fan of having a good hitter for average/base stealer in the 9 spot. I find that they can get on base for your big hitters for the middle innings a lot more than people realise. In saying that I would be happy with moving Gattis to 9, Altuve to 2, flip flopping CarGo and Abreu and moving them/all others down a slot!

Dude. You picked CarGo BEFORE Stanton. I will always (playfully) mock you for that.

RGB selects  Jose Valverde, RP  Mets

Valverde has been solid each year of his career with the exception of 2006 (last year not so great but only 19 innings).  He is only in his age 36 season so he should be good for a few more years and he can help out in the closer role if needed as well.  He has averaged over a K per inning and his average ERA+ is 139.  Plus he is scary looking so that helps with intimidation right?

I will PM now

Before I pick, I wanted to clarify: how does the "injury replacement" thing work? Do I just assume those guys are only on my roster in case of a catastrophic injury? Can I pick someone to serve in that capacity before I have a full 25-man roster? Am I over thinking this?

I believe everyone is on active roster. Also, you are over thinking it.

Guys -

Each team shall select a 25 man roster set as C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3rd, LF, CF, RF, DH, 5 starting pitchers, and at least 5 RPs and 5 bench players. Additionally, each team shall select 3 "reserve" players to serve as injury replacements as necessary
