I'm not quite ready with the rest of my list yet, but here's the guy I had at the top (well, of what's left anyways, haha) .. Probably should have been a pitcher, but *shrug*

After a long MIA, The Mad Crappers are happy to select..

I think I need some power off the bench and as a possible replacement for Howard if he struggles, which I don't think he will.

With that said RGB selects Jason Kubel, Twins BP

Kubel was terrible last season, but in 2012 he put up a 120 OPS+ with a 1.5 WAR  (7.6 Off) and he is only entering his age 32 season so he should have a few years left.  He can backup at both corner outfield positions and can fill in for DH when needed.  My concern with drafting him is that he makes my team a little redundant  but his power ability (30 homers in 2012) was tough to overlook.

Darwin is on so no need to PM

So this guy still could develop into a decent starter, but he also has the kind of stuff that translates well to a relief role. His current team appears to agree, as they have been using them accordingly. In Theo/Jed we trust, I guess.

Justin Grimm, RP.

It's clobberin' time. I was told to PM both SoxFan and Frank, so I have done so.

Joe Smith (RP)

Consistent set up man with a side arm delivery. Not good against LHB but that shouldn't be a problem as my top 2 relievers are both lefties.

PM sent.

Please skip me for now, I'm not going to be able to pick until later tonight.

McGehee - BP

He plays 3B and hits cleanup for the Marlins.  That's about all I know, but it seems like he could free up Johnson for super-sub duty.

Tax was PM'd. Could've sworn Casey was picked, he's looked good to start the season though

I'll pick soon.  The chart is incorrect though.  I tried picking Robbie Ray last go around, but he was ineligible.  I settled on replace RP Robbie Ray with  RP Neal Cotts.

He's had some injury issues and I'm not sure his secondary pitches will ever be good enough to be a consistent MLB starter. But he's young and has a 96 mph fastball.  I'm gonna stick him in the pen and hope he eventually learns how to pitch from there.  I'm also going to hope that his shoulder holds up this year.

RP J.R. Graham

Francisco Rodriguez, RP

(this guy, not the other guy)

It seems like it was ages ago that K-Rod was the most feared closer in baseball, but he's only 32.  He still strikes out over a batter an inning, and though he no longer lights up the radar gun, he's made up for it with better control.

So far in his one inning of work in 2014, he has a FIP of -1.04.  I expect his ERA to regress into the negative range accordingly.

I'll slot K-Rod in as closer, freeing up Clippard to be more of a relief ace.

Yeah? An ancient lefty that can't throw over 89? Do one of your other players need a chaperone?
No real splits the last two season, lowered his walk rate each of the last three seasons, his FB hasn't had any significant decline (and I wasn't aware 30 was ancient, since your 33, you might want to be worried bro :]) and he's at the back end of my pen. It's the 23rd round, I just want a guy who's likely to actually be pitching in 3 years and I think Blevins is going to last at least that long.

I was just fucking around. I feel like I'm 70 so, yeah after 30 it's downhill. I've beat the shit out of myself though. Being a mechanic for almost 15 years will destroy you.

There are a few other relievers I would've taken over him though. One LH especially.

I'm certain I missed a bunch of relievers. I've done a shitty job of sorting them this time around. (Then again, my pen sucked last time so whatever) If Blevins keeps it around an ERA of 4 for the next few years I'll be happy.

But yeah, I know you're just being a dick, it's cool :)

Yeah, I wasn't looking for anything special, just wanted someone solid to throw innings at the back end of my pen.

Someday, our KFP will return.  Until then, I'm going ahead with my pick.  The ABQ Hermanos select our staff's newest oldest player, 28 year old Ross Detwiler - RP5

Aw, it's all right, Ross.  You got a lot going for you.  Yes, you want to start, and you have been a pretty decent one -- you put up back-to-back seasons with 1.2 bWAR and 1.8 bWAR in '11 and '12.  Injuries held you back last year, but you still had a 3.66 FIP and a close to 50% GB rate.  You aren't happy about being moved to the pen in real life, but you have the potential to be a deadly lefty specialist -- they have a career .229/.312/.311 against you. Here with your fellow Pollos, you'll be grumbling away as the first LHP out of the pen, with the potential to take spot starts or even claim a backend of the rotation spot while the young 'uns grow or (in Bundy's case) recover.  Good to have you aboard, and happy to get you this late in the game.

PMing Scoops.  I look forward to the other guys I was looking at being grabbed by him and Grebeck in the next few picks, per usual.

Time to keep building the best pen in the game.
RP6-Zach Bitton

Britton looks to be the latest in a long line of elite starting pitching prospects who flop at the MLB level, only to finally find success once they move to the pen. Britton has a filthy sinking fastball he can throw in the mid 90s from the left side, generating plenty of swings and misses, and keeping the ball on the ground. As a reliever, that's really all he'll need. He adds a 2nd left handed arm to my pen, not to mention the 2nd left handed arm that can occasionally take a spot start if needed. Huzzah!

Martin Maldonado, Backup Catcher

He was wretched with the bat last season, and his minor league track record confirms that it probably wasn't a fluke. He was good in 2012, though, and he's one of the better defensive back-ups in the league. He's claimed to be in the best shape of his life this season, which I know because 99% of the articles I found about him were making snarky comments about that quote. I have him projected at +1 WAR, the best backup catcher left, so I'm taking him before the well runs completely dry. He's only 30, so he should be adequate for the next couple of years at least.

The bullpen needs a lefty. Boone is the next guy on my list in terms of stuff and age. He's recovering from bone spur surgery, but he should be back in the majors any day now. He was a pretty big piece of the NYY pen over the last few years, and is an ok third reliever for me.

Damn you. I had assumed I could wait on him forever given his offensive performance in 2013.

Received.

I won't try to argue I have gone through this exercise with a singular over-arching strategy.  But I have wanted to grab young players with high potential, and I've generally been putting an emphasis on defense.  With those guidelines in mind, I'm happy to take what my final bench player: Kevin Kiermaier - BP5

BP rates him as the top outfield defender in the minor leagues, with a plus arm, range, and glove.  Oliver projects that he would have a (likely statistically kooky) 4.9 fWAR season if given 600 ABs, based almost exclusively on his defense alone.  And he's started to show some life with the bat in the minors -- if he can translate the ~.350 OBP/~.430 SLG to the majors, he will be a superstar.  (And he cracked a 2 run homer in the Durham Bulls opener last night.)  All this, and he squeezed in an MLB game as a September callup last year at age 23.  He will be serving as a backup OF and our lead pinch runner.  The idea of running out a defense-first outfield with Lagares, Rasmus, and Kiermaier has me (and my pitching staff) pretty excited.

Will PM Kramerica.

Ironically, I'm choosing my guy for basically the same reasons

Freddy Galvis BP

He's played 2nd, 3rd, SS, and LF in his career. He's the Phillies emergency C. The kid can do one thing, field the ball. I like having that, coupled with his versatility, at the last spot on my bench.
